Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
Recently my GNOME (bottom) panel started reshuffling items after reboot.
I tried removing the panel, recreating it and placing new items on the panel. After rebooting the PC everything is undone. The panel reshuffles the items (even when the "Lock To Panel" is used). Also the items that are moved to the top panel, after rebooting return to the bottom panel.
Does anyone have a solution for this issue?
I'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am starting to get more used to Fedora 15 and GNOME 3, but I still have one outstanding issue remaining. Before explaining the problem, I am using GNOME 3 in Fallback mode because I prefer the look and feel of the gnome-panel over the gnome-shell. Plus, I have performance issues using x11vnc in regular GNOME 3 mode that I do not see in Fallback mode. I cannot use Separate X Sessions (TwinView "0") and get the gnome-panel to launch without crashing. The gnome-panel works fine when I set the screen back to TwinView "1".
Here are the error messages when running from a terminal window:

I'd like to put an applet exactly in the middle of my Gnome Panel, I can't do it manually as the applet size varies so I need a way to put it in the middle always. I simply want a gnome panel applet that will run constantly and, when clicked, will display an IM style list of I.P. addresses that are active on the network I am currently connected to. It should be able to have a configuration menu that will allow the user to specify a subnet mask, and frequency of scan. If I:
1. Add drawer(s) on the gnome panel
2. add items to one or more of those drawers
3. reboot then:
1. all empty drawers can operate normally
2. drawers that have stuff in it cannot be opened.
I want the mail icon (indicator applet) in the panel to open thunderbird when I click mail, and when I click "new message" that tbird message opens. I've already got the notification going, and I have removed evolution.

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on e-machine T-1221 I can shut down the machine using :
sudo shutdown -h from terminal
I can shutdown using powerbutton on case. I can't use the applet indicator powerbutton in root account, but, I can use the command under "System-->-Shutdown" in root account, but I don't see "System-->-Shutdown" in users account. Is there a way to add it ? I installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 3620 Laptop it works just fine and has the same Gnome Desktop. The only thing different is that there is no powerbutton available thru Gnome applets, only the command on menu under" Sytem-->-Shutdown", which I'm fine with on this machine.

I tried "noacpi nolapic"
I read the bug reports it stated that on live-cd there was only suspend and hibernate. There is no shutdown or reboot. I tried: "#start acpi", it closed with errors. It said that Ubuntu uses upstart. Is there a script which you can add to power button to add the shutdown.? Really I don't necessarily need powerbutton, I think the work around would be adding the command to "System-->-Menu.
I have a suspicion that this is easily fixed, however a good google (and this forum) hammering having turned up the fix. So I probably have the wrong search criteria, My Gnome Applet for switching CPU Frequency Scaling has 'disappeared' and is not listed in the the Add to Panel.. list of applets.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHere's a summary of my problem: When using Skype, it's possible to close the gui of the application only. When doing this, the Skype process itself doesn't close; it hides in gnome-panel's notification-area.
Now, when opening the Skype application again (e.g. by clicking on a Skype launcher), Skype starts a whole new process. This is shown to the user as a new Skype tray icon being generated, as well as a new gui window being created.
What I'd like to do is as follows:
I'd like to replace the Skype launcher with a script that would * recognize if there is a Skype process running if yes, bring up that * instance of Skype if not, start Skype normally
Now, I've read some of the source code of gnome-panel to try and see how it's done. From what I've gathered, a button_press_event is bound to some function that probably (am unsure of this) sends a signal of some kind to Skype.

I've managed to ALT-RIGHT-click-add some launchers to the top gnome-panel. When i now click on a launcher the gnome-panel crashes(?) and reappeares, but the program starts without problems. If i do this two times in a row (1 sec diff or so) the gnome-crash screen appears and i've got to log out although all the programs are still running without any problems.

My gnome-panel is at the left side of my screen (I use the 'splendid' cairo-dock at the bottom of my screen). But when more than eight windows are open, the dock freezes. The 'Computer' button works, as well as the tray icons. My CPU rushes to 26% constantly. Solution is to kill gnome-panel and it reappears without complaining (if few than 8 windows open).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu 10.4 and the gnome-panel appears half, as you can see in the attached picture, if I try resolutions over 1024x768.If I kill the gnome-panel and it restarts, or if I change its properties, it became OK, but in startup it appears like the image.I've tried other Gnome 2.3 based distributions and occurs the same issue. With Gnome 2.28 it doesn't occurs. Then ii seems a gnome 2.3 problem.

Ubuntu has a pair of packages called indicator-applet and indicator-applet-session.
The latter (-session) applet is what shows your user name on the panel (like the switch users applet in Fedora), but it also shows an icon representing your current status in Pidgin, and clicking the applet lets you change your status in Pidgin as well as log out or switch users.
indicator-applet in Ubuntu 9.10 sits by default next to the notification area and shows an e-mail icon, and allegedly is supposed to tell you how many unread messages you have in your e-mail client. I've never configured my e-mail in Ubuntu as I rarely use that OS so I can't say for sure.
Is it feasible to get these applets ported over to Fedora? Would a deb-to-rpm converter work, or would there be a nightmare of dependency issues since these applets seem to be something Canonical made themselves and that's why only Ubuntu has them?
Or has anybody already created RPMs for them?
Is it possible to install Gnome-panel in Xfce? I'd like to completely replace xfce-panel with gnome-panel. It is possible the other way round so maybe this way too?

I cant use the option "export" from the VPN settings in the Gnome Network Manager, when I tried to export a popup says "Unknown error"This happend also in 11.3 and now in 11.4, so it is a nm-applet problema I think... Is there any other way to export my VPN connections?

I looked in the package manager and apparently I don't have the gnome applet for networkmanager...but everything else I seem to have (the git version not svc or w/e) Anyone know if installing the applet will let me choose my wireless network and connect to it? Right now I think so, but what I have to do is boot into windows, find the package on the web and download it, then boot into fedora and install it
where I can find the fedora 10 networkmanager-gnome package (git version for x86_64)? I looked around and found the svc version and a git version for i386, but my OS is x86_64 and I couldn't find any git versions of it for 64-bit fedora's. btw, I have no idea what git and svc mean, but when I tried to install the svc version, it told me I had to install svc versions for all the other networkmanager packages...
Is there any printer panel applet for Gnome under FC12? Adding an applet to a panel brings a list of applets, but there is no print related one.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt simply doesn't work. No matter what city I put there (I even tried putting American cities) the applet just widens a bit to the left and shows nothing. Doing some searches, I learned the protocol it uses is called METAR, the data is provided by airports, and the list of locations is at:[URL]..
But this file doesn't exist! What exists is:[URL].. And that one only has American cities. But, as I said, not even American cities work. Where should I start looking?
