General :: How To Remove Splash On Boot

Jan 2, 2011

I am running mint 10 on a lappy and do recall doing this earlier but I can't remember how I did it (just liked the look of the rolling text rather than the splashscreen).

General :: Boot Splash Image In Ubuntu?

Mar 4, 2010

Changing GRUB image I am using ubuntu 8.04 I read [URL] got gnu-head.xpm.gz (it has 12 colors & 640x480 resolution) Added following line at beginning of menu.lst splashimage=(hd0,5)/boot/grub/gnu-head.xpm.gz
Remember no space after (hd0,5). I did that mistake once and got error Failed to read ((hd0,5)⏏/boot/grub/gnu-head.xpm.gz) Press any key to continue Coming back to point . Now run # update-grub

Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default
Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst

[code]....

Isn't this interesting. If you want to change the image during bootup then see [URL]

General :: Replace The Scrolling Text During Boot-up With A Splash Image?

Mar 10, 2011

I need some help in determining how to have a color splash image display in place of the Linux scrolling-text during the boot-up process on an embedded Linux device. The kernel used is a stripped-down version of Linux (kernel 2.6.29), which has been custom configured. I am using syslinux as the bootloader. I was told that Plymouth might be the way to go with this, but I'm not sure.

Ubuntu :: Reset All Personalization Such As Splash Screen And Colors In Grub Splash To Default?

Apr 25, 2010

If I re-install Grub 2 from the live CD should that reset all the personalisations such as as splash screen and colours in the Grub splash to default? In my case they are not resetting. I would expect them to revert to the default black/white you get when initially installing the OS. the Grub timeout to be a lot less than its supposed to be? e.g. the default timeout setting of 5 seconds is more like 2 or 3 in reality, and when I set my prefered value to 2 seconds it results in being about 1/4 sec or so.

Ubuntu :: Splash Screen Messed Up - Get Random Command Lines Mixed In With The Usual Splash

Jan 26, 2011

Since updating my graphics driver on ubuntu 10.10, My splash screen has been inconsistant and messed up. Sometimes ill get random command lines mixed in with the usual splash, sometimes the splash wont show and it will just be black till the desktop appears, sometimes it flashes on and off. I originally tried fixing the resolution and just made the problem worse. Then I tried installing a new splash via gnome-look.org, but it just made my shut-down splash blank and didnt effect my splash at startup. I just want the original splash that ubuntu is supposed to have.

Ubuntu :: Splash Screen Startup - Goes Blank For A Minute Then Briefly Shows The Splash For 5-10 Seconds

Mar 26, 2011

I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu, and on the start-up after I pass the GRUB it goes blank for a minute then briefly shows the splash for 5-10 secs and then jumps to the login screen. Also the screen is offset by about 10-15 pixels but from the login screen onwards it is centred. (It's also like this for if I'm in recovery mode)
How do I fix this and Im wondering if it is a hardware problem?

Debian :: No Boot Splash In Squeeze/sid?

Sep 1, 2010

Is usplash supposed to work? It hasn't worked correctly in squeeze (for me) for some time. It appears for like 2 seconds never to be seen again. And I never see it at shutdown. I tried splashy, but no splash. Plymouth has been no go with nVidia cards. I don't know if that's changed, but I get no splash with that either. usplash doesn't seem to be in the sid repos. Is it obsolete, or just not packaged yet?

General :: Remove Bootchart From The Boot Process?

Feb 8, 2010

I have OpenSUSE 11.2. I removed bootchart and forgot to run mkinitrd. Now, right at the start of the boot process, I get boot/93-bootchart.sh: line 17: 462 Terminated stopinitrd 5

I Can't find any 93-bootchart.sh anywhere. Earlier I got an error message about non existing /sbin/bootchartd, but I just copied /bin/cat to /sbin/bootchartd using a GParted boot disk. I tried to use chroot with an OpenSUSE boot disk, but mkinitrd can't find the root device, which is there actually (/dev/sda5). How can I make my system boot again? now I managed to re-install the bootchart rpm, using OpenSUSE boot disk and chmod. The system starts again. But that annoying bootchart is still there. I will not try again to remove it. First I will try to figure out, how to disable it during the boot process.

General :: Remove A Dual Boot Partition?

Jul 27, 2011

I know this is a familiar looking question, but please hear me out.

I want to dual boot Fedora 15 with Ubuntu 11.04 (to try out GNOME Shell whilst not breaking Unity, which I quite like). As it's mostly to just to try out, I'll probably want to remove Fedora and go back to just Ubuntu, so I wan to ask how to remove the Fedora partition without doing any damage, and how to remove it from the GRUB menu at boot.

Ubuntu :: Grub Does Not Boot With Quiet Splash

Mar 1, 2010

I have just installed ubuntu on top of my windows 7 installation, on its own partition. From the beginning i could not install from the cd since it just froze every time i pressed install from the installation window. I got the commandline for the command to show itself, and noticed a command called quiet splash in the end. Wanting to see if it was hiding any errormessages i deleted it and ran the installer again. Now the installer did not crash and instead installed with no complications. In grub, when i try to boot windows 7 there is no problem. When i try to boot ubuntu it crashes. Ive left my computer for 30 minutes and still nothing has happened. However when i press e to see the boot command, delete quiet splash and press ctrl-x for boot, ubuntu starts with no problems.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Now Freezes On Boot Splash After A Few Reboots?

Apr 30, 2010

Since I know there's a lot of support threads going, I wouldn't ask unless I was really stumped and couldn't google. I'll get right to it.

10.04 fresh installed fine, working, few reboots, all good. Installed Nvidia 195 drivers. Not so good, still works fine, but framerates not as good as the 190 drivers I'd been using with karmic. So I installed nvidia-glx-190 and nvidia-190-modaliases with the nvidia PPA for jaunty. They didn't appear on the restricted drivers list, I rebooted in the hope they would, and now my boot process is as follows.

Boot, met with a blinking _
Goes blank
Another blinking _

Green static appears momentarily, then very fast the Ubuntu splash appears, the white orbs all turn orange, and there it hangs. The splash itself is in the wrong resolution.

Everything is the same as when it was working except it didn't totally freeze at the end. It responds to nothing except the power button (and sometimes not), I can't access a shell or the grub menu at any stage during the boot process like I usually would, and nothing in the boot log seems out of the ordinary.

What should I do? I'm on a LiveCD desktop, got the harddrive mounted.

Macbook pro 4,1, 2GB ram, Core2duo with Nvidia Geforce 8600GT

Ubuntu :: Boot Hangs Up On Splash Screen?

Jul 19, 2010

So I turned off my computer the other day (I leave my laptop on, pretty much 24/7 I only turn it off if I have to, or I forget to plug it in I turned it off this time just because it was feeling warm)...

And when I went to turn it back on, the splash screen was big and ugly looking, then the orange ("loading") dots loaded to the end... but then it just stopped.

My computer wouldn't boot up... so then I used one of the older versions (you know grub lets you select versions before upgrades or whatever)... and the boot splash was the nice small version... and it loaded just fine, but then after the splash screen went away... the monitor just stayed black... same thing with the version before that.

So then I tried recovery mode on the first one (the latest), and when I clicked "boot normally" it took me to shell. However, everything was working fine, I could load up my non-x dependent programs like IRSSI just fine.

I think it has something to do with me installing the ATI proprietary driver (which was stupid of me, Ubuntu was handling my graphics card perfectly without it... and I hate using closed sourced software).

Ubuntu :: How To Add And Select Boot-splash Screens

May 11, 2011

I have never had a boot-splash screen on my dual-boot configuration; and I recently added something in Synaptic, probably by mistake, that added a Debian splash screen to my boot menu. I think it's much more attractive than the bare menu; however it's not appropriate for an Ubuntu distro. Also, I'd like to know how to add and select boot-splash screens, that will show behind my boot menu, like the Debian screen does.
