Ubuntu :: Splash Screen Startup - Goes Blank For A Minute Then Briefly Shows The Splash For 5-10 Seconds

Mar 26, 2011

I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu, and on the start-up after I pass the GRUB it goes blank for a minute then briefly shows the splash for 5-10 secs and then jumps to the login screen. Also the screen is offset by about 10-15 pixels but from the login screen onwards it is centred. (It's also like this for if I'm in recovery mode)
How do I fix this and Im wondering if it is a hardware problem?

Ubuntu :: Lucid Displays Blank Screen After Boot Splash On Battery Power

May 6, 2010

I'm on HP tx2000 Tablet PC, with nVidia GeForce 6150 Go onboard, 4GB of RAM, Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 Desktop. I keep getting a blank screen after boot splash when I'm on BATTERY POWER. Though I get a blank screen, the screen comes alive when I SUSPEND the laptop by closing the lid, and then RESUME the laptop. Then I can see the logon box and whole desktop.

Usually people get problem by suspending their laptops (usually the screen not coming back after resuming), but now I SOLVE the problem by suspending my laptop. Well like I said I can somehow get the screen right, but I really can't (and don't want to) suspend and resume my laptop every time I boot. Problem occurs REGARDLESS of type of display driver I use. nVidia proprietary, nouveau... whichever driver I use, I get the same conclusion.

Ubuntu Installation :: Get The 10.10 Splash Screen For A Second Then A Blank Screen?

Dec 22, 2010

I have been running 10.04 quite successfully, when I upgraded to 10.10, I have a problem with the newer kernels. If I let it boot into the latest one 2.6.35-23, I get the Ubuntu 10.10 splash screen for a second then a blank screen, same with 2.6.35-22. I have to run with 32-25 to get it to load the gui.

I have an AMD Sempron 2800, 1.6GHz pc, but I'm not sure if it's running 64bit.

Ubuntu :: Splash Startup Screen Flickers And Crashes?

Dec 27, 2010

I'm running a dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu 10.04. I have them both partitioned on a 1TB drive and I also have 2 250gb internal hd's hooked up. So starting maybe yesterday, I was noticing that Win7 started crashing for absolutely no reason whatsoever where it freezes and the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. Today I did a system restore because I was tinkering in the registry so I thought that could have been the issue. Crashed once since. But runs longer. I also checked the event log and doesn't divulge anything explaining the system crash.

And just now, I tried booting up Ubuntu and after grub, the purple splash screen flickers back and forth to the text based terminal startup. All I could make out once was "could not read partition table." that was really the only significant thing I could make out. It flickers too quickly for me to really catch what its saying.

Ubuntu :: Boot Splash - No GDM Startup On Vty7 / Resolve It?

Dec 14, 2010

I've seen similar posts but nothing that's been able to solve my issue.

System
Linux qbit 2.6.35-23-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 24 11:55:36 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Desktop
Gnome

Issue
Upon boot I can see the Ubuntu splash with the 6 white progress dots. No GDM or X11 session is started automatically with the progress screen simply remaining on display.

Temporary Solution
Stop GDM on vty7 and start it on vty1 or anywhere else for that matter - just not vty7 as this won't work. code...

Ubuntu :: Blank Screen At 10.04 Startup?

Aug 31, 2010

i recently was trying to install the ubuntu 10.04 in a machine with a 2x xeon processor but i'm getting some errors. In the installation first (and second, third...) try, the splash screen just freeze. After a lot of tries, just when i actived the acpi=off, noapic and nolapic, i finaly mounted the virtual desktop but after the succesful installation the machine wont boot! Only thing i get is a blank screen with a blinking dot on the left top.? it probaly somenthing related to the things i actived in grub boot, but i'm new to linux and can't find the problem! i can acess the ubuntu via hdd. I edited the boot on grub menu removing the "quite splash" from it and added "nolapic" in there place.Only thing left was the OS are now too slow. He works fine for 5 seconds and completely freeze for 2 seconds, then work for 5 secs again.

Ubuntu :: Changing The Kubuntu Boot Splash Theme At Startup?

Jul 22, 2010

I recently installed kubuntu-kde and it changed the boot splash theme from an orange logo on a purple background to tourqoise on blue. How do I change it back?

In KDE, I can navigate to Settings > System Settings > Appearance > Splash Screen but that's not what i'm looking for. I'm not trying to change KDE's Splash Screen that shows when you load the KDE window manager after logging in as a user. Further, I'm not trying to change grub's boot splash image, which renders this guide useless.

I want to change the boot splash theme which lasts 25 seconds that is shown between the time your select the kernel in grub2 and the time gdm loads. Right now it says "Kubuntu" in an ugly way and I want to change it back to what it was originally before I installed KDE. I want it to say "Ubuntu" as it should by default.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 LTS RC: Blank Screen At Startup?

Apr 26, 2010

I've been using Ubuntu off and on since 6.10, but I am definitely a noob when it comes to troubleshooting this kind of stuff. All of my previous installs went flawlessly, so I guess I've been lucky so far. I finally decided that I would bite the bullet, and remove Windows altogether. No more dual-boot with XP or 7 for me.I've been attempting to install the 10.04 RC all weekend, and it's been pretty frustrating. I decided I would start with my aging laptop, a HP Pavilion ze8500 that I custom-ordered way back in 2003. A few specs I know off the top of my head:

P4 (2.30 GHz)
512MB RAM
40GB SATA HDD

I burned the ISO to CD-R and started the install. When I boot from the CD, I get a purple screen which is blank other than two symbols at the very bottom. IIRC, one looked like a ruler or something, and the other looked sort of like a star in a circle? I think they were separated by an equal sign.I have no idea what that meant, but I knew enough to hit F6 and that got the install menu to appear onscreen. The only way I could get through the installer without losing video was to use 'nomodeset'

I installed over top of Windows 7 RC with the default partition table settings and after the install finished, I got the dialog box telling me that a restart is necessary. I hit Continue, the CD tray ejected, and my laptop restarted. So, assuming that the installation was a success, I see the BIOS screen, and then that goes blank, and where I would expect to see a boot screen or a Grub dialog, I see nothing at all. After the first install attempt, I would hear a drum sound after the screen went blank.I tried hitting 'Esc', along with 'Ctrl+Alt+F1', 'Ctrl + Alt + F2' or whatever else I could think of, and nothing seems to work.I updated my BIOS, remembering that I forgot to do that, and then I reinstalled Ubuntu. Again, no display when Ubuntu boots. And now, I hear no drum sound at all.

General :: Ubuntu 10.10 Blank Screen On Startup?

Nov 25, 2010

and I've had Ubuntu Linux (10.10) for maybe a month and a half now. Im very satisfied with the whole system, no problems up until an update about maybe 2 weeks ago from today (rough estimate). Anyways, when I start my computer and choose to start Ubuntu, about half of the time it will load with some weird new login screen (because of update), and their are other times where the screen will go blank. I dont think its very safe to cut the power from the computer through the power button :/ I realize there are other posts regarding this, and I apologize if this is against the rules, I just thought maybe it would be appropriate to start a thread with this problem for 10.10 users

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Bootup / Startup 10.04 The Screen Goes Blank And Says No Signal

Nov 13, 2010

when trying to startup Ubuntu 10.04 the screen goes blank and says no signal. But there are three Ubuntu's to chose from. the middle one will boot-up and works all right. But for when it is starting up the screen flashes and comes back on. the top one doesn't work at all screen goes blank but the lights on tower stay on.

the bottom one starts to boot but when it gets to the screen for your id and pass. it goes all blank but for a white line on the right side of the screen. this is on an old e-machine with a dual boot windows xp home. currently with 1g of ram and a 160gb hard drive split in two. with an AMD processor and ATI graphics on board. cant remember the numbers after that come after Ubuntu on the grub it is listed three times. how do you remove the other. let me know if you need more info.

Ubuntu :: Boot Hangs Up On Splash Screen?

Jul 19, 2010

So I turned off my computer the other day (I leave my laptop on, pretty much 24/7 I only turn it off if I have to, or I forget to plug it in I turned it off this time just because it was feeling warm)...

And when I went to turn it back on, the splash screen was big and ugly looking, then the orange ("loading") dots loaded to the end... but then it just stopped.

My computer wouldn't boot up... so then I used one of the older versions (you know grub lets you select versions before upgrades or whatever)... and the boot splash was the nice small version... and it loaded just fine, but then after the splash screen went away... the monitor just stayed black... same thing with the version before that.

So then I tried recovery mode on the first one (the latest), and when I clicked "boot normally" it took me to shell. However, everything was working fine, I could load up my non-x dependent programs like IRSSI just fine.

I think it has something to do with me installing the ATI proprietary driver (which was stupid of me, Ubuntu was handling my graphics card perfectly without it... and I hate using closed sourced software).

However, Kubuntu KDE changed the boot splash screen into a from the default Ubuntu one, to the Kubuntu one. Also Xubuntu XFCE changed the log-in screen to the Xubuntu one. I DO NOT want these changes. I just wanted Normal Ubuntu-branded Ubuntu Linux with the option of logging in into the desktop environment of my choice.

Ubuntu :: Kubuntu Can't Change The Boot Splash Screen

Aug 3, 2011

I have a Dell dimension 8300 dual booting with windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10. I installed BURG on it since I didnt like the text grub style. Problem is I cant change the splash screen no matter what I do, or changes I make. My screen resolution is 1280x1024 and my video card is an Nvidia card.

Originally the splash screen was a purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and some dots on it. After installing the plymouth themes, now it has changed to a blue screen with Kubuntu(?) on it... Id like to know whats wrong and how can I change the splash screen?

UPDATE: Ok I went to synaptic and saw plymouth.kubuntu-logo and kubuntu-text were installed and enabled (had litle ubuntu logo to the side). So I removed those 2 files then did a reboot. Now im back to the purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and the dots but I still cant change the splash screen...
