After some effort, finaly managed to get my Canon PIXMAiP4200 printer connected as a network printer. (I connect it through the USB printer port on a DLink DI-524UP router) Everything seems ok so far, except that I cannot find any means of specifying that printing should start from the last page.

Similar problems (possibly different causes) include [URL], from only three weeks ago, but no responses, and this one [URL], which I don't think is the issue because I don't seem to have an "extra" python install at /usr/local/bin/python.
I'm running Red Hat Linux and CUPS 1.2.4. I can print a test page to a Win 7 shared printer ok. However, when I issue the lpr command from a user or root, it won't print. The CUPS message is "Remote host did not accept data file (1)" and the job just hangs till I cancel it. The only thing I can tell that is different is that when the test page from CUPS is generated, it uses user "guest". When I try to print it using the lpr command, the user is "eddie" or "root". I tried adding a user account named "eddie" to the Win 7 box, I can print successfully from both CUPS and users on several other Win XP boxes.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWe want to print PDFs from a Linux server to a HP LaserJet 1320 PCL 6 which is attached to a Windows print server.
The command we use is
lp -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdf
Problem is, the printout comes with the top 10% of the page not printed. i.e. the printing starts from about 10% of the PDF. The header and top information is not printed.
We tried the scaling option:
lp -o scaling=75 -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdf
But that also has no effect. Only the characters become smaller but still the same problem is there.
What can we do to print the entire PDF in ONE page. When we open the PDF in Windows and print it we have to say Fit to printer margins for the printer's page scaling property.
How to set this in command line Linux?
Centos 5 was set up for me on my server with VMware and XP SP3 as a guest. I have little to no knowledge of centos (or anything Linux) so i tend to leave well alone but i am trying to get a USB printer to work from my networked pcs through XP - Through VMware - Through Centos5 to the USB port on the back of my server. I am reasonably OK with XP but am not a techie so will probably need to be walked through this.
I can see the printer appearing on Centos' equivalent to device manager and when i print everything seems ok with the XP print queue clearing after a few seconds but nothing prints. At a guess i need some sort of software bridge- (is this SAMBA?).
I am trying to install a HP deskjet 1000-J110a. I downloaded a driver package thing, and I guess I unpacked it, and I made it, and I thought I installed it. I am totally confused and my brain hurts. The printing troubleshooter is telling me: Missing Printer Driver
Printer 'Deskjet-1000-J110-series' requires the 'foomatic-rip-hplip' program but it is not currently installed. I found something that is the 'foomatic-rip-hplip', but what the heck do I do with it?
Do any body know about these types? Also how i can add these into Module Types? Also, which alternative type i can use instead of them?

I used to have a all-in-one printer HP PSC 1510 that I installed without any trouble.
A few days ago, I've got another scanner-printer HP 1050 that I tried to install on the same laptop in order to use it in another place. I had to take the new version of HP-lip, since 11.3 did not provide the right driver. I just printed the test page and it seemed okay.
Then, I upgraded from 11.3 to 11.4. And I had to print a long document. Only the first page was displayed correctly. All the following pages are more and more mixed up. It prints allways the same paragraph with big dark lines...
Following to cup, the drivers in use are :
Deskjet_1050_J410 : HP Deskjet 1050 j410 Series, hpcups 3.11.3a
PSC-1500-series : HP PSC 1500 Series, hpcups 3.10.2rc1.9
But the trouble is the same for both printers.
I can't guess if it comes from HP-lip or from my upgrade.
I have a HP printer connected to Ubuntu 10.04. Just recently I noticed that when I print something it also prints a cover page with some info about print job. Does anyone know how to stop printing the cover page? This is a serious waste of paper.

However everytime I attempt to print the printer will say that it's A4 and asks to load paper. I have searched everywhere for this default and I cannot find it in KDE. While in Gnome, all works as expected with printing (even when printing from KDE applications). Does anyone know how to change the default from A4 to US Letter?

I tried to edit the printer ppd file, turned hardware margins off in the print properties in GIMP, yet when I try to print an image 8.5 in wide on letter size paper, GIMP still leaves approx. 1/8in gap on the paper edge.
The printer hardware can do it: when I simply use the copy function it can print to the very edge of the paper.
Question: does anybody know how I need to edit the ppd file (or other config files) to convince GIMP (or other programs) to print using the full page?

The printer, a Dell Color Laser 1320c, was last used with openSUSE 11.2, and setup was entirely uneventful. No driver is provided by Dell, so I used the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint C525A Linux driver. The problem: To add a print queue in 11.3, a Connection must be specified (parallel, USB, network, etc). However, the configuration wizard fails to show the presence of the USB print device.

I am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?
I recently built a server from an old box using Ubuntu Server 9.10. This is my first server and I am very new to the server world.I have an Epson Stylus NX400 connected via USB. I have managed to configure it to the point where I can see the printer listed on my client laptop and can print a test page. However, I cannot print anything else. I know that the printer is a HP PSC 1215 All-In-One Printer but there seems to be a Catch-22 that I need to have the printer connected in order to be able to set this up using the GUI tools. When I try to print in grayscale it send a blank paper to the printer...When I try to print anything in color I can't change the margin of the paper, it always put like ZERO margin and the text go throw the end of the paper.
The paper size is A5 (Half A4) and the printer is in LAN in a Windows computer.
It's me or when I print in grayscale it print faster? So, it's an update or something? Because last time I printed from Ubuntu (like a month ago) it printed perfectly OK in grayscale (I don't know about the margin).
I do not have the hardware to do this yet. I simply want advice on what route to take before I make the investment. If I had the money I would simply invest in a wireless combo setup, but I unfortunately do not. I do however have an idea. I am currently stuck with a standalone system that is running XP strictly for the use of magicjack. I was thinking I could hook up this combo machine to that computer and network it in via that. However, would the scanning capability only reside in the hardwired computer or could I do a network scan somehow?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 11 and printing to both an HP Laser Jet 4Plus and HP Office Jet 7130 via a Windows 7 PC. I have a UID/PWD account on the PC that differs from that on the Fedora, also one that is identical UID/PWD to that used in Fedora. This has worked fine until "recently" (noticed it in ~last week or 2). Suddenly I'm being asked repeatedly to authenticate to print, neither account credentials are working. I get the message "Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)" and I get nowhere. I tried delete and reinstall the printers in Fedora, that works OK, can "see" them in setup on the Windows 7 host just fine. But can't get past the repeated authentications ...? I'm guessing something has changed in Fedora updates because this used to work with same Windows 7 PC in prior weeks.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with printing a PDF that is in landscape mode. When I tell Okular or Adoble Reader to print a document in landscape mode, the text is Illegible. If I tell it to print as portrait mode, then I can read the text but the end is cut off and there is no way for me to tell Okular or Adobe Reader what the margins are. That option was grayed out.
I'm having another problem: When I cancel the job from the CUPS interface, it says it canceled the job but the printer keeps going and finishes whether I want it to or not. With 11.2, I was able to have it set up so that when I told it to stop the printer, it did so right away. Why can't I get the printer to stop in the middle of a job if I see something wrong with it so that I don't have to waste ink?
How do I stop a printer from printing? Here's what happened- I started to print some PDF stuff and then changed my mind. The printing job hadn't finished so I just clicked on the printer icon and selected QUIT. Well, of course that didn't work so I just turned the printer off......same result- when I turn the printer back on it keeps on printing the same stuff. I have a windows machine on my lan with a printer attached. I have samba running on my F11 laptop and I can use it to access shared files on the windows machine. But how can I use the printer from fedora? When I go to Administor>Printers then I just get an empty list, even after pressing 'rescan'. Do I have to change some firewall/samba configuration? If not then where else would I see the printer?

Last week I had a paper jam in the printer. This has been cleared and as far as I know the printer is now fine. However the printer will not print. In url, it says printing has been paused, but I cannot find resume printer/printing anywhere.
I have tried Google, but the instructions do not appear to match where I would find 'resume printer'.I am able to provide further information.

I am not sure if this is the right place for this or not, but I am having a problem getting my HP6300 series all in one printer to print photo's with proper colors, all colors seem to run. I have hplip installed and set up to print photo's and it still prints colors like runs instead of correct.
