CentOS 5 Hardware :: Intel GMA 4500m Driver - Unknown Device
May 11, 2011Unfortunately I've had no luck with using the default intel driver. It's strange really, you can see the gnome screen for a split second then it turns the display off like it's activating the external monitor or something. If I change the driver to vesa everything is fine.

General :: Installing Windows Driver On Kubuntu?
Nov 21, 2010I have the driver cd of a frontech pen tablet which is for windows (there are also driver files for mac os in the cd). On Kubuntu, I am trying to use the ndiswrapper -i driver_file.inf command but there are many .inf files on the cd. I am having trouble recognizing which file is the driver file for the pen tablet.

General :: Installing Konica Minolta 2430 Driver
Aug 2, 2010I am trying to install a Konica Minolta 2430 DL printer from a computer using the Mepis I believe I'm using 8.5. I would have to restart the computer to find my version and then I would loose this page.
I downloaded magicolor2430DL-1.6.0.tar.gz to /opt and have been trying to install it every since. CUPS will not install the minolta 2430. I am doing this across the internet because that is how my computer club has the printer set up. Through the ethernet. I have pinged and fingered. It can find the address for the printer. That is not my problem. My problem has been library files it couldn't find. Got those. Then jbig. Got that. Now I am getting this print out when I do a ./configure.

Jun 12, 2010I have just put a fresh version of Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on my dell laptop, and I'm having a problem connecting to the internet. Before I installed the os, I tryed it out, as they let you do before a complete installation. While testing, I was asked if I wanted to install the proprietary drivers for the broadcom nic. When I did this, I was able to connect to the internet, however, after the install, I can not seem to update the drivers.
Maybe this was automatically done during installation and now there is another problem, but when I try to connect to my network, after I click connect, it disconnects right away and I am entering all the information correctly.

Feb 3, 2010I did some research on both Mic and Webcam, but nothing for the mic seems to work, and I can't seem to find decent instructions for installing the spca5xx driver for my webcam. lsusb result for my webcam: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04fc:0561 Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd Flexcam 100
My mic, on the otherhand, doesn't seem to be nothing too special. It plugs into the back of the computer right next to the speakers. I've searched everywhere for how to fix these, but can't seem to find anything that works. As for my mic, I've tried installing the... linux modules backport, etc... through synaptic, nothing. I've gone through alsamixer, and sound properties. The only thing I can think of, is that the computer isn't reading my mic.
Sorry if this post is kind of scattered, but I've gotten 2 hours of sleep last night, and not able to sleep again, Also, if anyone can point me in a direction of IM services that allow AIM, MSN, and YIM chat support through my friends on the windows OS. I've heard of Skype, but I don't want to seem too demanding to ask them all to download a program just to speak with / see me.

May 28, 2010i did yum -y install akmod-nvidia and then type xconfig-nvidia on the terminal,and after logging off i confront with a blank screen,so i remove akomd-nvidia [yum remove akomd-nvidia] and also yum erase xorg-x11-drv-nouveau [yum erase xorg-x11-drv-nouveau]but still no gui,i think i should install:
yum install kmod-nvidia
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 [but i didn't]
so how can i have my gui back?

Sep 29, 2010I was curious as to if there was a way to install a 32bit driver on a 64bit system. I have a dell v515w printer and the only driver they provide for it is a 32bit driver. I was wandering if anyone may know of a way to install it or if anyone knows of any other available drivers. I have searched everywhere for i dont know how long and came up with nothing i have tried installing the 32bit libraries and it didnt help.. and going back a 32bit system is out of the question due to ubuntu not wanting to load.. i think it has something to due with my hard drive being to large... but im using ubuntu 10.10 maverick 64bit...

Jan 25, 2011I have been having trouble with the install of Ubunto in general. First problem is that my realtek network drivers rtl8168 are giving me some problems. I have followed advice from other threads for disactivating the NIC and disconnecting the power for 10seconds. This works in that Ubunto can recognize the hardware (hardware active), but it says it is not in use. Furthermore, I try to define the IP address manually and it does not allow me to press apply. Therefore I cannot connect to the internet.
I though I would try a fresh install of the latest Ubuntu. I did not have the internet connected (due to drivers). After the partitioning section (I partitioned over Ubunto 9.10), on the screen where it says select Username, computer name etc. some files were loaded, and at the end it says �ready when you are�but I was not able to move forward. I don�t now why. Ultimately I reboot the computer Now I get this message upon booting (I am still booting from USB)

Mar 9, 2010I installed the nvidia proprietary drivers with click-install and everything perfect, I have desktop effects working but the problem is that when you open the config. screen settings to make sure everything was really good, I get to screen unknown April.
The maximum resolution is the correct 1440 * 900 for 19 "but the refresh rate by not recognizing the monitor down to 50hz me and gives me the option to 60hz as it was before installing the nvidia drivers.
How can I fix the display settings?

Jul 18, 2010I've got a Toshiba R500 with a Intel 945 GM graphics card that in 11.2 worked perfectly with 2D and 3D drivers from Intel that were installed automatically via the install or yast update. With 11.3 I have the Intel 2D driver, but the 3D driver says "Unknown Classic (7.8.2)" when looking at the details through the My Computer icon on the desktop. I did some searching on these forums and google but haven't been able to find an answer, has driver support for the Intel 945 GM been removed because it's old hardware or is there just no driver in the repo's for 11.3 yet?

Feb 5, 2010I have a Plustek 9636T parallel port scanner. Has been faithfully working for me for years up through Fedora 8. It has a kernel driver that I build and install every time the kernel changes.
I finally bit the bullet and did a new install of Fedora 12 to get up to date. But now when I try to build my kernel driver and install it, I get this fatal error on the modprobe:
FATAL: Error inserting pt_drv (/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.i686.PAE/kernel/drivers/parport/pt_drv.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
Examining dmesg shows: Unknown symbol proc_root. I can't find that message anywhere on a Google search.

May 5, 2010I tried posting this before and I'm not sure what happened but I don't think it worked, so if it did please forgive the double post.am very very new to centOS and linux in general. I just want to setup a test web server that more closely mirrors our actual web server that is hosted by rackspace. I've installed centOS and tried to setup Apache, PHP and MySQL from a guide on the web using Yum. When I go to localhost in the web browser I'm able to see the default apache page. However when I create a php page it's just blank.When I look at the apache error logs I get this: PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
I've been searching alot on the internet and I know the issue is permission related, but I don't know how to fix it. I've seen some forum posts that say you need to use the chmod 775 command on the /var/www/html folder.Currently when I do ls -l /var/www/html it returns

I'm sure that this isn't correct but like I said I don't know much about how to set permissions or who the owner needs to be. I've done alot of searching and seen similar posts, but no one seems to explain it clearly.

Fedora :: Installing A New Keyboard Driver?
Jul 10, 2009I've just changed from Fedora 8 to Fedora 10 and I'm having trouble installing a special alternative keyboard driver.
I used to be able to put the driver in the xkb/symbols directory, make entries for it in xkb/rules/base.xml and base.lst, and install with the System menu. Now I find that the Gnome tool no longer seems to be using the base files, and my driver doesn't show up.
Does anyone know where Gnome gets its list of drivers from? Alternatively, can I install it by editing a configuration file?

Dec 14, 2010I am using ubuntu 10.10, and I have to install win7 alongside for work, but when I inserted the disc, and started setup. It prompted me to insert the proper driver for my dvd drive. I researched the problem, and apparently it's a problem with Driver Signature Enforcement. To get past it, your suposed to reboot, and hit f8 to go to the startup menu, and disable the check drivers option, but in ubuntu I dont get that option, I think f8 opens grub or something. Is their any solution to this problem that you have encountered? I have done research, and I cant find anything,
