Debian :: Installing Latest Nvidia Driver On Debian Squeeze ?
Nov 9, 2010I installed Debian Squeeze with no issues. I went to install latest Nvidia driver as done previously with Lenny. Used instructions that worked on lenny from "the trooper" [url]
Downloaded th latest driver for my GeForce 7300 GS vidio card, driver package NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12.run
Used "method # 2 as described in HOW TO,as it worked perfectly in the past on Lenny. Only syntax I changed was instead of gdm I typed gdm3 as it appears that is the new name for gnome in Squeeze.

Now the trouble showed up, Unfortunatly I can only go off my memory. A question was asked stating that something did not match, it needed a 3 and the driver had a 4 version or somethng of this sort. then it asked if I new what I was doing (and I lied) and selected yes. And whammo, it didn't work. (This question was asked when i did in Lenny and it is working perfectly still on that system). I now can not boot to GUI, I notice when system boots it starts in "S" mode although I select normal boot from grub2.
Not too bad if I got to reinstall as little is on the system. I just want to know what I am missing on the instalation deal or should I be going about this difrently with Squeeze.

Mar 27, 2015I tried to install drivers for my GeForce GT 630M graphic card. At first, I just installed nvidia-detect and there was a suggestion to install nvidia-driver:

After first failure, I tried to use Debian wiki tutorial for Debian Jessie (probably I should have done this at first )

Debian Configuration :: Colors Too Bright After Installing Nvidia Driver?
Aug 17, 2011After I've installed nvidia-vdpau-driver 280.13-1 from debian testing repositories, all the colors on the screen became too bright, except dark colors.
I've tried to change the values from Brightness, Contrast and Gamma, in NVIDIA X Server Settings -> X Server Color Correction, but it doesn't bring everything back to normal.
Either the nvidia driver has problems, or I don't know how to calibrate. But before I installed nvidia-vdpau-driver, I had the nouveau display driver (experimental), and all colors were displayed normally, the same as in Windows 7 and XP.
Debian Configuration :: Installing Nvidia Graphics Card - Driver Error
Apr 28, 2010I revived my old desktop (failed psu), and installed debian squeeze using netinst. It has a nvidia geForce 7600GT card. The driver in squeeze does not work very well, so I downloaded nvidia driver-installer. When I run it, it comes back with an error saying the kernel (I assume the nvidia graphics kernel) is compiled with gcc4.3, but the system is using gcc4.4. Using synaptic manager, I installed gcc3.3, but same error.
Next I tried to uninstall gcc4.4 and it gave a warning the system might not be usable. I did not understand it, but I went ahead and uninstalled gcc4.4 and guess what, the system is not usable, and I have to re-install squeeze. Not a big loss, since I do not have much in it. How to install this nvidia driver, specifically, how do I get switch to gcc4.3 from gcc4.3? Also, the squeeze install gave me 2.6.33-trunk-amd64, and 2.6.33-3-amd64. How do I get rid of ...trunk-amd64? Do I just delete it from grub?

May 17, 2010Using squeeze with a GeForce4 MX 440 video card (NVIDIA) I have a monitor (4/3 aspect ratio, 1024x768 usually), and a TV connected via S-video After installing the NVIDIA driver using the NVIDIA binaries I managed to have a cloned twin screen configuration working.
However, the monitor is (wrongly) detected as having size 1824x768 (aspect ratio is widescreen) Using system monitor, I can set the correct size, but only for one session; besides, the login screen too is messed up the xorg.conf file seems right: proper resolution modes are set; xorg.0.log too
Debian Multimedia :: Nvidia Legacy 304 Under Jessie Is Broken
Feb 2, 2015I recently updated my Debian Jessie and somehow that update broke my Debian. I have a Gtx 465 and this has been working fine under Jessie for a year.
After the update I no longer have X running. I tried removing all the Nvida stuff and reinstalling 304-legacy which did not get the Xserver back. I also tried to install Nvidia 304 driver binary but this time it refuses to compile ;( So I am out of luck at the moment.

Debian Configuration :: Jessie Nvidia-settings Multiple Monitors
Aug 30, 2015I've always used Debian with a single monitor and no need of proprietary drivers, because I usually don't do graphics or multimedia. Now I'm asked to set-up a machine with 3 nvidia video cards (770) and 4 monitors and everything went south. I started with just 2 monitors connected to 2 different video cards, not wanting to push my luck.
I installed a fresh Jessie and followed the instruction to install the nvidia drivers and tools from the Wiki. Everything went smooth. After reboot I executed (as root) nvidia-settings and I configured the two monitors to be one to the right to the other, with BaseMosaic option (at this point just one monitor was active) I saved the configuration to /etc/X11/xorg.conf , I even executed nvidia-xconfig as suggested, I rebooted and nothing happened, only one monitor was working, while the other -- looking again in the nvidia settings -- was still disabled.
I then tried with xinerama option and things are even worse, since now both monitors are black. I can login in one textual shell, but then I don't know what to do, since in my 10+ years of linux ... I never had to mess with X server. Is there a way to at least recover a working X without reinstalling everything?

Apr 17, 2015I have Debian Jessie and I've been trying to install the Nvidia privative drivers. I've tried several ways to do it and all of them end in the same way. The last one I tried was installing bumblebee-nvidia and bumblebee with apt-get. The output was [URL] ....

Debian Multimedia :: Nvidia Jessie 64bit KDE Small Menu Characters
Jan 2, 2016I was updating my system (sudo apt-get upgrade) and had several nvidia drivers proposed as "Suggested"... I changed the options for apt-get to include the suggestions, did the upgrade, and suddenly the normal size fonts in menus, along the "task bar", inside Chrome tabs and headers, and other places became too small for my old eyes to read.
I have tried Google and found issues within Gnome (mostly fonts too large).
I have tried removing the nvidia-driver so I could go back to nouveau (which worked fine) but the next time I updated my software table (sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get upgrade) the nvidia drivers seemed to return, even though I had purged the nvidia that I had removed... what remains on the system is:

Debian :: HD 6670 Proprietary Driver Not Work Jessie / KDE
May 8, 2015Everything was working fine on Deb 7.7 with propriety driver. Then I did what I "presumed" to be an "update" through apper but it upgraded to Deb 8. The upgrade borked half way through with errors (cannot remember what they were, unfortunately I had to go out - wasn't expecting an upgrade or I'd have done it with more time).
Apper stated it had part installed stuff and trying to run update again (through apper) then had "no permissions" issues even though I entered password. After a few reboots and upgrading through recovery I "seem" to have resolved that, but might be related to this issue.
After resolving that issue I booted up and the grey GUI login screen was fine, after entering password the next screen was a colourful splash screen (with "Desktop" tab in top right corner), but it doesn't advance from that screen. No mouse, can't click or tab. Ctrl Alt Del does nothing.
The image looked like this, but with only "Desktop" in a black tab at the top right.

I've never seen this screen before.
After followed this guide using recovery boot:

My system booted fine, albeit low resolution etc.
So I tried to install proprietary again using this Debian how to: [URL] ....
Although the procedure looks the same for Deb7 as it does Deb8 (barring the source).
The same problem happened where I was stuck at the loading/splash screen after GUI login.
So I removed the proprietary drivers again and am now back in, again albeit low res like am back in he 90's. Also, that splash screen doesn't show at all now.
The driver is supposed to be fine with my setup, so is there some issue left over from the borked upgrade perhaps? Everything seems fine otherwise.
Debian :: Installing Kernel 3.16 On Jessie
May 13, 2015So, I did the upgrade to Jessie today and everything went fine and I do like the gray look of the Gnome Classic Desktop. Not much change here.
But it is impossible for me to install the 3.16 kernel.
When I try, I get the following error (sry, it's german, but you should get the point):

It basically says, there is not enough space on /lib to copy the modules for the new kernel. (I have about 100M free there.)

So, as you can see, there isn't that much space on / at all - don't blame me, blame the Lenny Installer. Personally I can live with the 3.2 kernel but I wonder if there is any possibility to install the never one without a total re-partitioning.

Upon reboot, I was back with nouveau drivers and proceeded to reinstall nvidia drivers according to [URL] .....
Code: Select allapt-get install nvidia-driver
apt-get install nvidia-xconfig
I can then change my refresh rate using

but when I hit "Save to X configuration file", I get the following output in terminal:

Package xorg-server was not found in the pkg-config search path.

Hardware :: Installing Nvidia Driver In Fedora 10?
Dec 1, 2008I am having a world of trouble getting my old GeForce2 MX400 to work in a fresh install of Fedora 10. I included the RPMFusion directories, so my yum repolist includes:
rpmfusion-free RPM Fusion for Fedora 10 - Free enabled : 324
rpmfusion-free-updat RPM Fusion for Fedora 10 - Free - Update enabled : 0
But when I type yum list | grep nvidia, nothing comes up. When I type yum install kmod-nvidia or yum install akmod-nvidia, it says there's no package like this. Have these been updated for Fedora V10 yet? If they haven't, I guess I will just have to use another distro. BTW, when I tried installing the driver from the NVIDIA website, it says it needs to recompile the Kernel, and after installing gcc and make, it still gave some weird error about how with kernel 2.6 it can't find the proper kernel headers or something like that. I heard somebody post that you shouldn't use the NVIDIA drivers, they mess up OpenGL, you should you Livna kmod-nvidia.
1) Would you recommend livna kmod-nvidia or Nvidia's own driver's for a GeForce2 MX400 and Fed 10?
2) Whichever you recommend, could you give some clue how to get around either problem I'm having?

My host specs are:
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Wheezy is installing correctly, but Jessie is not. It fails during the partitioning of the disk, and gives an error message like: unable to write to disk, start = 236342 length = 0. This is not the exact message but I'm unable to try again at the moment.
When I install Wheezy and apt-get update / upgrade to Jessie, I get a black screen after reboot..

Debian Configuration :: Apt-get Auto-remove After Installing Jessie
Jun 20, 2015After installing Jessie, apt-get gives me a huge list of packages with the suggestion to autoremove them. Now, I've tried auto-remove once and was left with a naked Gnome, so I was wondering if there's another way to find out which packages I should keep and which I can safely remove. Is it safe to delete packages that cannot be found using the search function for the stable release? I checked them one by one here URL....How about linux images that won't appear in the above search?

OpenSUSE :: Lost Fonts After Installing NVIDIA Driver?
Sep 23, 2010I have installed SUSE 11.3 and I am using KDE4. I also installed the font "misc-console".
After installing the NVIDIA driver 256.53 the font misc-console becomes useless because it is displayed so much slanted that it is imposible to read. However, if I disable the NVIDIA driver (by replacing "nvidia" with "nv" in xorg.conf), then it works fine. It also works fine in KDE3 and the NVIDIA driver. So, it seems to be a combination between NVIDIA and KDE4. A lot other fonts are also overly slanted and unreadable (like "Sony fixed", "misc fixed", etc.).
If I launch konsole from a terminal, I receive the following warning:
konsole(6928) Konsole::TerminalDisplay::setVTFont: Using an unsupported variable-width font in the terminal. This may produce display errors.
Is there a way that I can use "misc-console" without having to uninstall the NVIDIA driver? I'm just used to this font for my terminal.
The same happens whether I install the driver manually or through YAST, 32 or 64 bit. The video card is NVIDIA 8400GS, the system Athlon 64 4400+
