View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 wireless on Jessie Cinnamon.
I have installed the b43 firmware and after that everything seemed working but just for a few seconds.
I have tried to reboot and after that I can't browse the internet just for a few seconds and after that Iceweasel loading and loading and nothing's happening.
I can't surf on the net just with cable but the wifi setup shows everything is okay 95% signal strength and connected.
Also tried reinstall the firmware and reboot and it's all the same after.
I can easily use my wifi with my smartphone too.
I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Arch Linux with an Intel 965 GM video chipset (from dmesg). I'm using the xf86-video-intel driver, and Xorg (using xfce4) works flawlessly, including compositing. Before getting into details about the HDMI, I'd like to ask why I don't gave an xorg.conf.d/10-moniter.conf, it's not there, just evdev, quirks, and synaptics (because I figured that moniter.conf could be modified to include HDMI). So, basically when I'm on my XFCE4 desktop, I plug in the HDMI cable and to the TV, and on windows, it would would work, but on Arch the TV just says: "No input", and my desktop just stays the same, so absolutely nothing happens. If I have it connected upon bootup, the HDMI displays (the BIOS and grub menu on the TV) until I select to boot Arch linux on Grub, then the tv screen goes blank. I've tried Googling this but I got no decent results, just a bunch of random posts of audio not working with Nvidia.
PS - I did dmesg and lspci (with grep HDMI) and no results, so maybe it doesn't even recognize it, but then what do I do? There's obviously Linux support for HDMI...
i can use internet in my Laptop. My laptop is only connected with wireless. No cable connection avilable here. Wireless is functioning well in windows 7 but in openSuSe 11.2 it is not functioning. I've searched on this issue in net and found that i've to install Packman repository or install driver from broadcom website. Please help me by giving easy way to do so. Following is the detail of my wireless device and some other information.

I used wubi to install 9.10 on my dell inspiron 1525. I had a problem with not being able to get wireless working, and found out that I had to activate the Broadcom STA driver which lead to a crash. Now I've rebooted, everytime I try to install I get 'SystemError() InstallArchives' or the authenticate box hangs. Is there another way to install these drivers?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using slackware64 13.1 ever since it came out on my Dell Inspiron 1525, and I haven't really had any problems with my webcam in that time. However, last time I tried to use skype - I noticed that it couldn't detect it.
In kinfocenter, my webcam is picked up (OmniVision Technologies). The only time I've had a similar problem in the past is when I used the "Compact" option in lilo.conf, and the webcam wouldn't turn on. Just removing the option solved the problem.
Since I don't know what steps caused this to happen, I'm not sure where to start fixing it
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and I ve installed Jessie with KDE desktop.Everything's fine !!!!! but sometimes when I use webbrowsers the systray with KDE menustart is going off and missing. After that I can't switch window to window and can't minimize or resize the actual activity, without or with hotkeys either can't close the window, and these option bars ar missing too.I always do restart but I ve had enough. It is very irritating. Also I have tried to switch user logons with Alt Ctrl Fxx and start another graphic array with startx and it has worked fine but that's not the right way I think!!!!
View 11 Replies View RelatedI tried to find my solution for hours now but no luck. I'm a medical student and the other day I finally found the time to set up ubuntu for my first time. Everything was working great and I had wireless up and running. However, I tried to set up tethering to my iphone and after that my wireless hasn't been working (I've noticed no other problems). [URL]..Then I used this tutorial [URL].. However, after doing these steps the computer needed to reboot (I actually forget exactly where but I had to reboot in the middle of the second tutorial). After my computer restarted my wireless no longer showed up. By this I mean that wireless network no longer even showed up as an option when I left clicked then connections. However, I did not lose the wireless profile under network connections. So I went to system and noticed that the Broadcom STA driver was no longer active. So I tried to activate again and received this message.

I have a persistent liveusb with ubuntu 9.10 that I installed using the method on [url]
I use it on a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook (that boots Mac OS X from its SSD). An ubuntu persistent liveusb works just great for occasional linux development and testing, but ubuntu 9.10 will be EOL next year, and I want to stay current.
I've installed ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS on a liveusb using the method on [url]
After I've booted the liveusb, under the network menu I see this:
Wireless Networks
Device not ready
A menu appears that looks like a PCI card with a lock on it. I select the only item under that menu, "Install Drivers". This gives a dialog that says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system. Proprietary drivers do not have public source code..." etc. Under Ubuntu 9.10, I could at this point select "Broadcom STA wireless driver" and click the "Activate" button, and it would work. So I did that in 10.04.1.
It says, "Downloading and installing driver..."
While it's doing this, the "kerneloops" menu item appears. Then a dialog that says,
Sorry, the package "bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 +bdcom-0ubuntu3" failed to install or upgrade.
Then another dialog that says
SystemError: installArchives() failed.
What the heck is happening here?
Well, it turns out that the error messages are wrong. I restarted and the DM9/ubuntu 10.04.1 was able to connect to the wireless network.
tl;dr: Proprietary wireless driver installation works, but it claims that it doesn't.
Inspiron 1525 - Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card I passed two days browsing the net looking for a solution to my problem but no way.. Im running ubuntu 10.10 in my inspiron via VirtualBox and my wireless card is not detected by ubuntu.. I installed the bcmwl6.inf driver with the wrapper and it show me in wireless window that the hardware is not present.. So checked that in the terminal by typing :
Code:
lshw -C network
*-network
description: Ethernet interface
product: 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller

This card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.
The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.
I cant install or do to work the compiz...
my driver is Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
what can i do to have all effects and working fine?

relatively light Ubuntu user here. Installing Ubuntu on my mom's laptop. Installation went smoothly, but I don't have any internet. There seems to be no driver installed for the wireless, I tried to plug the computer into my modem, but it doesn't connect to the internet, won't even find the router. I just completed installing openSuse 11.1 I followed the detailed steps given in Getting Your Wireless to Work When I try to scan for available APs in the vicinity, I get the following error.
~> sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
Can someone guide me in configuring my wireless connection. Also, since I do not happen to have a wired connection, I am alternating between openSuse and windows everytime i need internet.
I have loaded the latest version of opensuse and I have everything working but I cannot connect to my wireless WPA2 network. I have downloaded the bcm43xx firmware using the method /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware I then restarted the network. The computer will now read the network card and will find networks but I cannot get it to connect at all. At first it would connect using ifup in yast but would disconnect after a few seconds. It would never connect through NM. I have a usb network card that works just fine. I am lost as to how to fix this problem.
