General :: Installing Broadcom440x Driver - Connecting To The Internet
Jun 12, 2010
I have just put a fresh version of Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on my dell laptop, and I'm having a problem connecting to the internet. Before I installed the os, I tryed it out, as they let you do before a complete installation. While testing, I was asked if I wanted to install the proprietary drivers for the broadcom nic. When I did this, I was able to connect to the internet, however, after the install, I can not seem to update the drivers.
Maybe this was automatically done during installation and now there is another problem, but when I try to connect to my network, after I click connect, it disconnects right away and I am entering all the information correctly.
After a recent installation and update I am having problems connecting to the internet even after following the steps in [URL]... Configure a network card in Suse/openSUSE...." It doesn't always connect when I boot and there is no connection icon on the panel nor the KDE desktop. Can someone assist me with this problem?
Recently I've been having problems with the internet whilst using Ubuntu 10.10 (Dual booting with Windows Vista Home Premium x32). The problem is I simply can't use my internet (can't connect and the option doesn't show up). At first it said (using wireless internet by the way), firmware missing. After playing around for a bit, I managed to get a option to install my internet card driver (Broadcom).
As I try to install it says this:
Code: SystemError: Failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock This is really frustrating me as I need the internet on it.
last night i have fresh installed ubuntu 10.4 on my computer. Then after that, I installed the updates. Lastly, i installed nvidia hardware driver so that i could use its graphical effects. After rebooting my computer, i've noticed that i was disconnected from the internet. And I was surprised that it is the cause of my internet disconnection because when i remove it, my internet comes back. What should I do with this?
I am not really that good with linux, yet, I have a smc 2602W v3 wireless pci card, and I want to install it on linux, so I could access the internet, but I haven't found any solutions yet. Btw latest ubuntu desktop version. Info about the card: [URL]
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and its great. However when I connect to the internet at home it shows that the connection has been established but I still cant connect to the internet. My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.
i hav already gone through the archlinux installation.now m stuck at installation of gui. but our college uses a cyberoam client. how to get connected to the internet to install xorg nd kde?
I'm new to slackware (and the forums) and I just installed it onto my laptop. I have previously used linux mint, and I like it but I feel that slackware might give me more experience with the terminal, and more original linux ideas. I have kde up and running as far as a window manager, and everything seems to work except connecting to the internet. I have a linksys router. I usually use wifi, but I even tried connecting through an ethernet cord and that didn't work either. I have searched many different threads, but either they didn't address my specific problem, or I couldn't understand what was going on. I tried to configure using "netconfig", but I didn't understand what many of the prompts wanted. I entered a name and a domain name, and selected DHCP, but this did nothing.
This past fall, I formatted my hard drive and put fedora 12 on. Worked fine until my old hard drive decided to die. During the last few days of dying Fedora stopped being able to connect to my Linksys Wireless G router(I'm hard wired), or detect any connections. I just assumed this was the hard drives fault.
Now, I have a new WD hard drive with Fedora 14 on it and still cannot connect to the internet. I fear worst case scenario would be my ethernet port is dead but I wouldnt know how to detect that. I thought that it might be a problem of drivers also but couldnt find anything on this subject.
i am trying to connect Internet through wvdial using dialup connection(Xorg is off), m using Ubuntu 11.04 32 bit and Nokia 5130 xpress Music phone.....when i tried to connect with wvdial command , i got the error "subscribe to packet data first" error on cell.....here is my wvdial.conf file...Quote:
I've searched all night for similar threads and either don't understand the instructions or find that my computer simply isn't the same! I've tried to gather as much information as I felt needed when people asked in other threads. Just use small words around me, I'm really *that* technologically inadequet. Why I bought a linux ubuntu computer is still a mystery!
I'm having trouble connecting to my home's wireless internet, which is linksys. I can connect via wire just fine, but I want to access my built-in wireless card. How do I set up the wireless for this machine? Here's the info of what version of Ubuntu and about the card.
I have installed Fedora 14 on my laptop And trying to use MTS MBlaze Mobile BroadBand Connection And its a USB MODEM in order to use usb modem I am using use 3 packages ie

After connecting i am getting ip as 180.215.44.134 gateway as 10.212.64.1 but if i try to browse the Internet using firefox it says no server found error.I tried to ping [URL] and its not pinging after connecting. nslookup also fails against [URL]however if i ping any of the ip that i am getting while connecting it is pinging Also disabled the firewall and selinux is set to disable just in case to check something else is blocking but no luck
I want to connect to the internet on my fedora core 6 OS, i am using an adsl modem(Model no. : SmartAX MT841) which requires setting up a username and password. I am a newbie to linux, so i am clueless and just cant stop wondering what to do!
i have shifted from windows xp to puppy.having 256 mb ram desktop.i have a problem for finding nokia pc suite for puppy for connecting internet from pc to nokia 5230.
I was trying to configure wireless network on my ubuntu machine but could not do it. I am possibly stuck as I don't know much about configuring things on linux platforms.
how to install soft ware to opensuse without connecting to the inter net.I have down loaded softwares. it's a .rar file and read me file didn't contain
ive installed ubuntu for netbook on my laptop, everything went fine, it installed ok, and it was all good, until i tried clicking on the icon im supposed to click on to get conncected to wifi. where it's supposed to have various wireless networks it says "device not ready (firmware missing)" and ive tried everything i can think of to get it working, but it wont work. the same thing happens with my desktop computer, but with ubuntu desktop 10.10 and linux mint... but with the desktop, its probably just a case of finding drivers for my specific wireless adapter, in which case can anyone tell me where i can find the driver for a belkin F6D4050ea for linux?
I just installed Fedora Core on my Dell Inpsiron B130 laptop and I am having trouble connecting to the internet both wirelessly and with an ethernet cord into the router. When trying to configure my network, I dont recognize any of the ethernet adapters in the drop down list. I have been told that my wireless card is Linux compatible (dell y8029 dell wireless 1370 802.11/a/b/g mini pci). My ethernet card is a B130 Broadcom Ethernet Driver which isnt in the drop down menu either.
I read that I need to download an ndiswrapper but I dont know where to find this download AND even if I could download it to a zipdribe, I have trouble opening a USB flash in Linux becuase its not a "valid block device". This is after the command "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbflash"
My home network is has a Netcomm NB5 ADSL modem with a D-Link DI-524 wireless router (WEP encryption). While I can access the internet using the Vista partition, on the Ubuntu partition, I cannot access anything. Further investigating the problem, I have noticed that there is something wrong with the DNS on the Ubuntu partition. Pinging the IP address of a website (such as linuxquestions.org) loads up, yet, when I type in the Domain Name, there is an endless wait. I have already deleted and re-entered the contents of the resolv.conf file as well as try to change the settings but to no avail.
I have the driver cd of a frontech pen tablet which is for windows (there are also driver files for mac os in the cd). On Kubuntu, I am trying to use the ndiswrapper -i driver_file.inf command but there are many .inf files on the cd. I am having trouble recognizing which file is the driver file for the pen tablet.
For some reason I can't seem to get my driver installed on my PC with Nvidia graphics... Only Ubuntu seems to be able to do it and it still doesn't do it correctly..

I am trying to install a Konica Minolta 2430 DL printer from a computer using the Mepis I believe I'm using 8.5. I would have to restart the computer to find my version and then I would loose this page.
I downloaded magicolor2430DL-1.6.0.tar.gz to /opt and have been trying to install it every since. CUPS will not install the minolta 2430. I am doing this across the internet because that is how my computer club has the printer set up. Through the ethernet. I have pinged and fingered. It can find the address for the printer. That is not my problem. My problem has been library files it couldn't find. Got those. Then jbig. Got that. Now I am getting this print out when I do a ./configure.
root@mepis1:/opt/magicolor2430DL-1.6.0# ./configure checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for gawk... gawk checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
loading zd1211 linux driver after I booted up into BT4. The only command I figure out is tar zxvfZD1211LnxDrv_2_16_0_0.tar. From here I don't know what to do? Can someone give step by step commands to walk me thru the loading process?
Installed 11.04 after a Series of Harddrive Problems. HD was Cleared so No XP installed, running ubuntu Only. Compaq Presario C500 - Broadcom 4312 Wireless.
I have a shared system. One half Linux and the other Windows. I recently did an upgrade to Windows 7 and now I cannot access the internet on the Windows side, and I cannot find the driver?? In Ubuntu I can only access via wireless not through the ethernet network adapter. The motherboard is abit nf8v. Sorry, more of a Windows question as to Linux.
I did some research on both Mic and Webcam, but nothing for the mic seems to work, and I can't seem to find decent instructions for installing the spca5xx driver for my webcam. lsusb result for my webcam: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04fc:0561 Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd Flexcam 100
My mic, on the otherhand, doesn't seem to be nothing too special. It plugs into the back of the computer right next to the speakers. I've searched everywhere for how to fix these, but can't seem to find anything that works. As for my mic, I've tried installing the... linux modules backport, etc... through synaptic, nothing. I've gone through alsamixer, and sound properties. The only thing I can think of, is that the computer isn't reading my mic.
Sorry if this post is kind of scattered, but I've gotten 2 hours of sleep last night, and not able to sleep again, Also, if anyone can point me in a direction of IM services that allow AIM, MSN, and YIM chat support through my friends on the windows OS. I've heard of Skype, but I don't want to seem too demanding to ask them all to download a program just to speak with / see me.
