OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel 945GM 3D Driver Says "Unknown Classic (7.8.2)" On 11.3
Jul 18, 2010
I've got a Toshiba R500 with a Intel 945 GM graphics card that in 11.2 worked perfectly with 2D and 3D drivers from Intel that were installed automatically via the install or yast update. With 11.3 I have the Intel 2D driver, but the 3D driver says "Unknown Classic (7.8.2)" when looking at the details through the My Computer icon on the desktop. I did some searching on these forums and google but haven't been able to find an answer, has driver support for the Intel 945 GM been removed because it's old hardware or is there just no driver in the repo's for 11.3 yet?
I'm stuck at 800x600, and no matter what i try i seem to hit a dead end. I've got the Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS rev 03, and it seems like lots of people have had to fiddle to get it working. Here's the info I've collected and tried so far. Ubuntu Edgy On Intel 945GM Graphics & Wide Screen LCD NoteBooks 100% Linux Addict
HOWTO: install drivers and set up widescreen res. with Intel 945 vga card and Ubuntu - Ubuntu Forums Mostly Harmless: SuSE, Acer aspire 5580 and non-standard resolution 1280x800 Intel 945gm And 1280x800 Laptop Monitor Problem Suse 10.2 - openSUSE Forums I'm not too proficient with linux yet, so the right solution might be here and I'm just not getting it right. Maybe i'm not on the right path at all.
Unfortunately I've had no luck with using the default intel driver. It's strange really, you can see the gnome screen for a split second then it turns the display off like it's activating the external monitor or something. If I change the driver to vesa everything is fine.
Is there anything I can do in Ubuntu 11.04 to get the Intel 945GM to work more stable and run faster? It won't load the Unity interface at ALL. It won't load the Classic Desktop unless I use the one without effects, or else the title bars disappear. Is there something I can do to make it more stable, and run more efficiently?
I've been looking into this issue this whole afternoon, but I couldn't reach a definitive conclusion, so I decided to ask. Sorry if it's been explained somewhere else, I truly didn't manage to find it.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop with Intel 945GM graphics controller. My laptop's screen native resolution is 1280x800. When I'm using only that, compiz runs fine.
When I connect a second screen -- a TV with native resolution of 1360x768 -- it doesn't work because the virtual screen resolution exceeds the maximum 3D texture size [2048x2048].
Lowering the resolution of both screens until the total size is less than 2048x2048 works, but it's really ugly and sacrifices a lot of screen real estate.
My question is: is there any way whatsoever to make compiz run only on my laptop screen and disregard the other one? An even better solution would be to run two instances of compiz, one for each screen, but I'll settle for having it on my laptop screen only, if possible.
The title pretty much speaks for itself. All options in Desktop Effects are greyed out and a docking application called Docky asks me to enabled composite effects for it to function properly.
I haven't made any driver installs or anything as I have a knack for breaking video configurations in Linux. Also this might have to do with the problem, I have no xorg.conf file for some reason. I did some searching around but that pointed me into installing packages that I already have :S.
When using the very nice opengl screensavers, rss-glx, etc. the screensavers are very choppy.I tried modifying my xorg.conf but still no go.Anyway to get the rss-glx screensavers to run at normal speed?I read online that Intel disable the hardware acceleration. This is a work laptop but I just wanted to see if I could get it going.
I have a Dell D620 and I can't use any screensavers. Rather, no screensavers work. Just for giggles, I booted a Kubuntu 11.04 CD, updated the sources.list, installed rss-glx and was able to use the rss-glx and other opengl screensavers. The reason I say opengl is because those are the ones that I use but no screensavers work.
I have a Dell Latitude D520 with an Intel 945GM Integrated Graphics Card. I have been unable to get the desktop effects to work in either Jaunty or Karmic. When selecting Normal/Extra/Custom, I get an error:
Code: Desktop effects could not be enabled Graphics card info: Code: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 942/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) I've looked at countless threads pertaining to this issue, but nothing I could find resolved my issue.
Short story: Correct driver for 10.1 for the raid on the Intel S3000AH board? Long story: This system crashed due (I think) to a bad memory module, had been running fine for 2 years, had been an upgrade from Suse9. The hardware is fixed but I get "GRUB" repeating on the screen when booting and that is all. I can't seem to find opensuse drivers for 10.1 (that is what I believe is on the system, I believe the data is still intact and don't want to compromise it if possible) It will not load the 10.1 drivers from the intel site, presumably (?) because they are for SLES, not opensuse. I can boot from a 9.3 CD with the drivers from the intel site, and can see the original partitions.
My system occasionally, not often, but enough to bring me to do something about it, keeps freezing. Hard lock-ups. This is a known bug for openSUSE 11.3 and intel video cards. So, I tried some suggestions and updated my kernel to 2.6.35. Nope. Same prob. I updated Xorg, mesa, drm, cairo (had to go to Factory for that one). I finally got all the requirements met as listed on Intel Linux Graphics: 2010Q2 and I download the intel 2d driver, since it's newer than what comes with openSUSE, even in Factory (xorg-x11-driver-video-intel-legacy 2.9.1).Now, when I go to compile the driver, it errors out on ./configure.how do I let this intel driver package know where xorg-server is?
I've been using Mandriva (and predecessors) for ten years or so, but that distro really seems to be dying at the moment. Consequently, I am trying to move over my various PCs to SUSE. I've started with my EEEPC 901 which has a 945GME integrated graphics chip. Using Mandriva 2010.2 it works fine and I can have desktop effects (built into KDE) running with no problems. However, with KDE on openSUSE 11.4 I get irregular freezes, although I can still work within the focussed window. Moving around though, clicking on other parts of the desktop etc. doesn't work, then after a few seconds they all happen at once. I am getting the following error multiple times in the X log, which I suspect is associated:
Code: EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
I note this supposedly fixed bug report that may be relevant:[URL].. Secondly, I am getting hopeless 3D speed (glxinfo reports SGI and has all expected output). Desktop effects won't work at all, on boot it pops up a message saying they are disabled as too slow. I know it isn't a benchmark, but glxgears gives about 50, it used to give over 500. I remember a few X versions back having to enable UXA mode instead of EXA in the 'intel' driver, but presumably that is no longer needed and I cannot see any effect of doing that now (in the xorg.conf.d device file). According to the X log, X is definitely using 'intel' driver, not fb etc.
I am running Opensuse 11.4 on a file server, based on an Intel Atom motherboard with 945G graphics chipset.I recently shut down and then rebooted the server (because I needed to switch off the power for a few minutes) after it had had been running quite happily for several weeks since the last boot. Now I cannot start X - it gives up after the line(EE) intel(0): failed to set mode: Invalid argumentI've tried googling but am none the wiser what could have caused this, or how to fix it. Excerpts from the X log file:
Just installed my first linux ever. The highest resolution I can get on my video card is 1024x768. I found out that I need to install iegd driver for my intell GM45 card. Can you tell me where I can download that driver and how I can install this?
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Dell Latitude D430 that I use at work. I have it on my desk docked going to a Dell LCD Monitor. When I go into the monitor set up it says Unknown for the monitor and Laptop for the actual laptop display. Also, I have very low resolutions for the "Unknown" monitor.
I am trying to resolved this issue so that I have better resolutions on the external monitor and then I can try to extend the desktop between 2 screens.
I found something online about adding the intel PPA and I did that, but now what. There is no xorg.conf that I can find for 10.10.
I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.
i upgrade a machine running centos 5.4 to 5.5 this morning. After the update the X start i saw the pointer and a black backgroud only the desktop doesn't appear. The machine is a barebone with this configuration
I have an intel 5300 wireless chipset which is not supported in kernel 2.6.25. I am currently using opensuse 11.0, I downgraded from 11.1 since I faced so many other problems. can I setup my wireless driver under kernel 2.6.25? if so, how could i do this?
! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...
I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...
I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :
Code: X.org X Server 1.8.0 Release Date: 2010-04-02 [ 15.124] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 [ 15.124] Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX [ 15.124] Current Operating System: Linux linux-7xhd 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-10-25 08:40:12 +0200 x86_64 [Code]....
I have upgraded my OpenSuse 11.4 to gnome3, and it works beautifully, but now. I want to be able to log in to old gnome desktop and I can't. I only have gnome 3 as my default gnome desktop now? Can I have my classic gnome desktop back without removing my gnome 3? Can I make Gnome 3 & my classic Gnome 2.3## co-exist so I get to choose at login?
I am wondering how you can change the view of the classic GNOME menu (Applications | Places | System) in 11.3 to the "classic" view (like in Fedora)? The Applications menu has to much sub-menus. I prefer it flat. The nautilus bookmarks are not directly accessible in Places either, which is not really comfortable.
I have an IBM X3250 M3 server were Iam trying to install Fedora 9 version on RAID 1 and am unable to configure it. Some body guide me with LAN card driver for Inetl 8000 series Gigabit NIC card driver for fedora 9.
I've been using it since it was put on current and have been having X crash on me repeatedly or getting a black screen from which I can only recover by a hard reboot. This is happening under a couple of different WMs without compositing (so this isn't the same issue that I was having with KDE and xscreensaver).
I'm using the i915 driver with stock 2.6.37.6, but I also tried a 2.6.38.2 kernel but had the same problem with both.
I upgraded to -current last night hoping to improve my Intel 845G graphics controllers functioning in X, I've had to use the vesa driver for stability. The upgrade was completed but KDE seems as slow as ever. Here's some snippets from Xorg.0.log:
X.Org X Server 1.7.5 Release Date: 2010-02-16 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Slackware 13.1 Slackware Linux Project Current Operating System: Linux speedy 2.6.33-smp #2 SMP Sat Feb 27 20:12:16 CST 2010 i686 code....
It seems I'm still using the vesa driver, any ideas on why the intel isn't being used and how to fix it?
i am using fedora 14. i need graphics driver for Intel 82579v . while moving folders it shows poor graphics.Login screen open as step by step. while playing videos ,it hang.my system is very slow now with high configuration.
