i have a server with four hard disk and RAID5 config , i want to install Centos5.5 on this server . while installing it asks me following :
1-use free space
2-remove all linux partition & create default
3-remove all patition and create default
i just wont to know which option i should choose.
I have purchased an IBM x336 server. The IBM website says that the server supports Linux. After doing some research, I decided to install CentOS 5.5 on this server. The goal is to use it as a internal web server for testing. My problem lies with the installation process, for some reason Linux does not see my hard drives. The server is equipped with two 36GB hot-swappable SCSI drives. When I get to the screen to choose where to install Linux, it only gives me options to install over a network, which I cannot do, because no hard drives are shown in the list. I have looked through the BIOS but I do not see any settings that would prevent the hard drives from showing. I have been able to boot to CentOS 5.5 using a LiveCD, but even then I still cannot access my hot-swappable SCSI drives.

I had to do a build from the source (svn build 578), then configure, make and make install. So far so good.Once I try to run fuppes, I get the error:[ERROR] Failed to bind socket to : 8.15.7.107:0.The documentation I've searched so far suggests that there is a config file that needs to be set with the appropriate ip address, but the file doesn't exist as the program hasn't started up yet!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI intend to setup a Linux Virtual Server cluster behind a firewall. I have two machines which will run Centos 5.3 and act as the routers. I have two other boxes for now, also running Centos 5.3 which will run the server applications. All these machines are connect on my local network behind a firewall. I will ask for the two LVS router machines to be granted access through the firewall for web access (port 80) and ssh access (port 22). These two ports should be sufficient for me to receive my web application requests, as I will use NAT translation on the LVS machines to redirect to the applications on the real servers.
I've read the documentation for the LVS but I would be grateful if someone could give me some guidance on the whether I will have any problem with the firewall and the LVS routers machines, as I have described it above. Do I need to ask for anything other than access through the firewall for these two machines. They will get DHCP IP's I guess. Also, its not quite clear to me where the LVS router machines LAN cards get connected. Do all of the NIC cards connect to my local network, or do I need an independent hub to connect the second NIC of the LVS router machines, and as such use static IP address for them on this private network.

My problem is that i whant to install mod_dav_svn trough yum but without updating the latest version of apache form yum repository. If i exclude the httpd package when doing yum install mod_dav mod_dav_svn i get a dependency error witch say that i nedd httpd-mmn installed. So, my question is, how can i use yum to install mod_dav_svn without updating the httpd.
My host is blocking port 3960 which I need to use for an SVN server, they are telling me that I will have to install my own firewall. I've not done this before and am not sure of what to do or whether anything I can install will be enough protection.

Then I tried using VMware server, but apparently VMware Workstation deleted some of VMware Servers files. So, I uninstalled VMware Workstation. 1. CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-1of2.iso (4.09 GB)
2. CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-2of2.iso (412 MB)
I am trying installing it on a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. I could boot the machine successfully with the DVD 01. After selecting the Installation method as "Local CDROM" it says: CD Not Found. The CentOS CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS CD and press OK to retry and it ejects the DVD in a splash. I tried mounting the DVD in a DVD drives in Windows XP SP2 and it is showing the content correctly. I also tried mounting the iso file with PowerISO Virtual Drive manager in Windows XP SP2 and it is mounting well.
I tried many times but of no success. Earlier I tried the following also (before downloading the DVD image files):
1. I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server Edition on the same machine.
2. The same machine is also working fine with CentOS 5.5 Live CD.
I am trying to install gnome desktop on centos 5 vps. I am getting the following error when i ran this command yum groupinstall �GNOME Desktop Environment� to install gnome it gave me this error and i dont know wat to do now. i am able to connect to my server through vncviewer but the GUI is not working so the screen is black. Can I do a fresh install of CentOS Linux on a remote machine? I have a machine with Windows NT in a remote location. Now I want to use that system as my deployment machine. To proceed with my plan I need to install a Linux OS (have chosen CentOS). The guy there with the machine is not very knowledgeable of the installation process of any OS. So I thought I could install CentOS remotely.how I can achieve this?

I'm pretty sure all the required Perl packages listed on this page are installed on my server(went through the list one by one using cpan), couldn't figure out what's the issue.

I've used ubuntu n have quite good experience in installing softwares and codecs for Totem n amarock. Its very easy on ubuntu cuz system searches online and finds plugins itself.
Now im using CentOS n i updated the system but still i dont see many softwares on repositories unlike in ubuntu moreover i dont know how to install totem codecs and others. I can't even get terminal commands for getting codecs online.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a VPS based on CentOS 5.5 and only CentOS is available, One of the problems I have is that I have no experience with this distro at all. I want to install FlexGet [URL] but it depends on either Python version 2.5 or 2.6 which my install has version Python 2.4.3 installed. Now after doing some reading I have seen many post saying if I upgrade Python system wide It may break something else that is needed, and to install it side by side with the older version of Python and point the application to that specific version of Python it needs. The only problem with this is that I haven't got a clue how to do this.
So I was wondering if anyone could put together a very noob friendly guide for me to get the newer Python build installed side by side with the current one and then help me configure FlexGet from the .egg file it comes in installed using the newer version of Python it needs.
I downloaded the easyids.iso file. Put it on a usbkey tried to boot with it, it didn't work. I put the .iso on a cd and I have the same problem. why can't I boot with the iso?

I have to make a bootable USB stick which can allow me to connect to the PC from my Laptop with a VNC connection, then the complete installation using IP to IP. I did this with the following:

This allows you to modify your original iso files with the new contents and pack it as one .iso file

The installer can't see my raid controller (I assume) as I'm getting the following error:"Error opening /dev/mapper/isw_jbhgjgjj_Vol0: No such device or address"It just sees them as 4 individual drives: sda, sdb, sdc and sdd.Please note that I have set up the RAID 5 in the controller bios interface and the image name is Vol0, which it seems that it tries to load but for some particular reason it can't.I have also tried different bios settings and nothing worked.

I created RAID 5 array and is working fine (adaptec status says Optimal) but I can't install CentOS to that array (1.5TB size).

I'm asked for a driver, which I have downloaded from Adaptec site and extracted contents to USB drive (in installation found as /sba1) which has now a lot of IMG and some ISO files on it.
I try to load (I simplified names) RHEL5.img, CENTOS.img... with x64 names (one exact name: aacraid driverdisk-CentOS-x86_64.img) and I always get the error message: "No devices of the appropriate type were found on this driver disk"
This is going on for a week now and I can't find the right driver or something I'm doing wrong to get install done.
