General :: Error While Installing Munin On CentOS 5.4 VPS Via Yum
Mar 17, 2010
I was trying to install Munin on my CentOS VPS via yum, but it showed a few "Missing Dependency" errors which prevented the installation to work. I'm pretty sure all the required Perl packages listed on this page are installed on my server(went through the list one by one using cpan), couldn't figure out what's the issue.
The installer can't see my raid controller (I assume) as I'm getting the following error:"Error opening /dev/mapper/isw_jbhgjgjj_Vol0: No such device or address"It just sees them as 4 individual drives: sda, sdb, sdc and sdd. Please note that I have set up the RAID 5 in the controller bios interface and the image name is Vol0, which it seems that it tries to load but for some particular reason it can't.I have also tried different bios settings and nothing worked.
I'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on an old Pentium 4 desktop PC I have, which is not being used for much other than being a MTA, and I want to migrate this functionality onto the CentOS platform for stability (Windows is a perpetual nightmare. I partitioned a spare 20GB to experiment with, and I want to install CentOS into here to play around with first so I can move my files around between Windows and CentOS, until I'm happy all of the stuff is gone, then I can scrub the Windows partition and claim the space for CentOS.
So, I've downloaded and burned the DVD and tried to install. I start the install with no args from the main install menu, and the process goes through some probing and then comes up with the "Welcome to CentOS" menu. I go through this, and then it tries to start X Server. It fails, and falls back to text mode. I get the "Welcome to CentOS" screen again, and then proceed through it. I set my keyboard layout to UK, then this message comes up at the bottom of the screen:
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for localhost:6001: Temporary failure in name resolution"
then on the next line: "Cannot open display :1" If I force the install to text, by typing "linux text" at the first menu, I get about the same way through, but the install just hangs doing nothing, and no disc access to the install disc.
installing subversion on CentOS 5.5 using following command: [root@lucifer ~]# yum install mod_dav_svn subversion does dont connect to a mirror with following error, "Temporary failure in name resolution"
I have a problem installing RRDTool on Centos 5.4 and it will always come up error dependencies cairo-devel and pangocairo but I already installed this packages.
I am trying to solve a problem where Apache stats aren't displaying correctly in Munin. I've ran through quite a bit of checks and tests regarding Munin setup, but I think my issue is related to Apache, but my skill set there is lacking.

I am attempting to install Xemacs-21.4.22 on Centos 5.4 and get the following error message when I attempt to... make install
.......... xlwmenu.c:39:28: error: X11/bitmaps/gray: No such file or directory xlwmenu.c: In function 'XlwMenuInitialize': xlwmenu.c:3015: error: 'gray_bits' undeclared (first use in this function) xlwmenu.c:3015: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once xlwmenu.c:3015: error: for each function it appears in.) xlwmenu.c:3016: error: 'gray_width' undeclared (first use in this function) xlwmenu.c:3016: error: 'gray_height' undeclared (first use in this function) make[1]: *** [xlwmenu.o] Error 1
I understand that there are some X11 bitmaps not included in Centos 5.4 however I have no idea how to install them.
i was not able to install alsa...showing the error checking for directory with kernel source... I am having a problem installing SLES11 on a new server. It goes fine through the setup until it gets to GRUB, it gets me the following error message: Error occurred while installing GRUB
I just upgraded to 10.04 and munin seems to be broken. Looks like the graphs are being put in the wrong directory. In the old version the png files were in /var/www/munin/localdomain directory as file localhost.localdomain-XX.png but in the new version in /var/www/munin/localdomain/localhost.localdomain/XX.png. Here is a line from the log file,
2010/05/01 21:20:13 [RRD ERROR] Unable to graph /var/www/munin/localdomain/local host.localdomain/acpi-month.png : Could not save png to '/var/www/munin/localdom ain/localhost.localdomain/acpi-month.png'
I also tried to remove the old version and install new version by removing all related files. The new version does not even populate /etc/munin. Does not even put a default munin.conf or munin-node.conf files or put some default links in the plugin directory. As a result munin-node does not even start.
I started to use the smart plugin for munin to monitor my HDD. I changed the script a bit to report the raw value instead of the value for Power_On_Hours and temperature. It all works.
However, it now reports the values for these 2 sensors as critical, even though the power on hours is 928 and threshold is 999 (I even tried 9999) and temperature is 51 (threshold is 60).
I need to monitor resource of my server.I have found munin and sysstat, Does munin use systat? or they are different package?because in some documents I have found on net,for installing munin, systat is needed !!for example on RedHat based distor, sysstat package is needed! but on debian is not needed
I'm using munin to monitor our servers. Recently I created additional partitions on one of them and I noticed that munin has not picked up the changes.
I restarted munin-node and running the plugin manually as user munin on the machine
Code: $ munin-run df I get all my partitions Also when I telnet 10.1.1.25 4949 and run
Code: fetch df I'm getting all of them. The graph however displays only the ones that were there at the time of munin install.
How can I get munin to add the new partitions to the graph ?
I have downloaded the following CentOS 5.5 DVD iso files and burn the same using Nero Express: 1. CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-1of2.iso (4.09 GB) 2. CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-2of2.iso (412 MB)
I am trying installing it on a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. I could boot the machine successfully with the DVD 01. After selecting the Installation method as "Local CDROM" it says: CD Not Found. The CentOS CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS CD and press OK to retry and it ejects the DVD in a splash. I tried mounting the DVD in a DVD drives in Windows XP SP2 and it is showing the content correctly. I also tried mounting the iso file with PowerISO Virtual Drive manager in Windows XP SP2 and it is mounting well.
I tried many times but of no success. Earlier I tried the following also (before downloading the DVD image files): 1. I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server Edition on the same machine. 2. The same machine is also working fine with CentOS 5.5 Live CD.
I am trying to install gnome desktop on centos 5 vps. Can I do a fresh install of CentOS Linux on a remote machine? I have a machine with Windows NT in a remote location. Now I want to use that system as my deployment machine. To proceed with my plan I need to install a Linux OS (have chosen CentOS). The guy there with the machine is not very knowledgeable of the installation process of any OS. So I thought I could install CentOS remotely.how I can achieve this?
I've used ubuntu n have quite good experience in installing softwares and codecs for Totem n amarock. Its very easy on ubuntu cuz system searches online and finds plugins itself.
Now im using CentOS n i updated the system but still i dont see many softwares on repositories unlike in ubuntu moreover i dont know how to install totem codecs and others. I can't even get terminal commands for getting codecs online.
