how to work with linux (centos 5.2 64bit) but i am having a hard time to get this screen install. I was going to try this but i was not sure as i have reinstall the os many times because i do something wrong.

I have a PC installed with FC 14:AMD 9500 Quad Core4GB RAM2x ATI X1950I've been using FC14 for a few weeks after updating from FC13.The graphics driver was a default one, it worked but it would only recognise one of my screen cards and I wanted to install the ATI Catalyst software so I began the process of installing the proper drivers.I followed the howto at: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503 Once I'd finished the driver seemed to be sort of working but everything was going really slow. If I moved a window it'd take a while to redraw in the new position, menus took ages to pop up, and so on.
I tried running aticonfig and got an error message (unfortunately the only record of it is on the machine I can't access properly). I put the message into a search engine and found a bug stating the same message where people had the same problem with Nvidia and intel cards too.The problem was something to do with python and how it started up the drivers (sorry I can't remember the message). The bug had an rpm attached that was a patch to fix this problem (I'm blabbing on in case any of this jogs the memory of someone that had this problem or worked on it).I installed the patch and rebooted and now Fedora gets as far as the black screen where a progress bar fills in white at the bottom of the screen but it stops there. Once the bar is completely white it sits there and gets on further no matter how long I wait.Does anyone know how I can recover this system? Is there a way of getting the system to recreate xorg.conf before this stage and load using the default driver again? The point it's hanging at is the point where it would normally bring up the graphical progress bar then the login screen.
I'm trying to make a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 Server 64bit but is stuck with the Partitioning Disk part and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS provides the same error. The installation wizard gives me a menu:

After untarring the file and executing the binary for firefox, the following error is coming "brilliant:/firefox # ./firefox ./firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". The libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 is there in /usr/lib.. I guess this is because the SuSE is 64 bit and the software Im trying to install is 32 bit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a CentOS 5.5 system that I am able to run fully virtualized 32-bit VM's on just fine, but I have need to run some 64-bit VM's on it. It has a "paravirtualized" option that might possibly work, but it wants a network install path, and I am not sure if this is the actual solution. When I go to create the VM I only have i686 and xen for options on the virtualized method, is there a way to add (I am presuming) amd64 in here somehow? The CPU is definitely 64-bit. My google-fu hasn't found results for me yet.

He needs these to be set up RAID 10. I can go into the Adaptec utility and make the array and make it bootable and get to the point in the installer where it asks me if I want to use the SATA array - then it gets to the partitioning screen and the array is nowhere to be found.

Everything was fine until I updated to 11.04 from 10.04. After installing and turning on laptop, it loaded unity, and my monitor didn't turn on. Because my laptop main screen isn't working I cant check for screen or look for preferences to change.

I've been trying to install the Fuppes media server onto CentOS and have had a few difficulties. I had to do a build from the source (svn build 578), then configure, make and make install. So far so good.Once I try to run fuppes, I get the error:[ERROR] Failed to bind socket to : 8.15.7.107:0.The documentation I've searched so far suggests that there is a config file that needs to be set with the appropriate ip address, but the file doesn't exist as the program hasn't started up yet!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have acquired what appears to be an old Gateway 2000 686 (Intel Chipset 82845G) with a Radeon X1600 graphics card and plan to turn it into a web server, although a minor problem, but I can not get a GUI (GNOME desktop) to load, however a text based server loads fine.Whether I use default 'GNOME Desktop' option at install or load text based install and use yum to install the GUI later, I get a couple of screen flickers and the screen goes black on start up.

I intend to setup a Linux Virtual Server cluster behind a firewall. I have two machines which will run Centos 5.3 and act as the routers. I have two other boxes for now, also running Centos 5.3 which will run the server applications. All these machines are connect on my local network behind a firewall. I will ask for the two LVS router machines to be granted access through the firewall for web access (port 80) and ssh access (port 22). These two ports should be sufficient for me to receive my web application requests, as I will use NAT translation on the LVS machines to redirect to the applications on the real servers.
I've read the documentation for the LVS but I would be grateful if someone could give me some guidance on the whether I will have any problem with the firewall and the LVS routers machines, as I have described it above. Do I need to ask for anything other than access through the firewall for these two machines. They will get DHCP IP's I guess. Also, its not quite clear to me where the LVS router machines LAN cards get connected. Do all of the NIC cards connect to my local network, or do I need an independent hub to connect the second NIC of the LVS router machines, and as such use static IP address for them on this private network.
I have purchased an IBM x336 server. The IBM website says that the server supports Linux. After doing some research, I decided to install CentOS 5.5 on this server. The goal is to use it as a internal web server for testing. My problem lies with the installation process, for some reason Linux does not see my hard drives. The server is equipped with two 36GB hot-swappable SCSI drives. When I get to the screen to choose where to install Linux, it only gives me options to install over a network, which I cannot do, because no hard drives are shown in the list. I have looked through the BIOS but I do not see any settings that would prevent the hard drives from showing. I have been able to boot to CentOS 5.5 using a LiveCD, but even then I still cannot access my hot-swappable SCSI drives.

My Boss brought me a old server ML 370 G3 to install linux OS The server has only one scsi disk I downloaded CentOS 5.4 And I tried to install but Server hangs when it comes to load cciss driver I googled but i failed to find a soltuion to get over. I think it must be smartArray controller problem. i tried to make Driver Diskette for HP ProLiant Smart Array Controller but i don't have any desktop machine which have a flopy driver :( I don't know what i can do any more. is it possible to load dirver from cd media? Before I tried installing the Nvidia driver, I set up all my stuff, settings, etc. Restarted several times, everything went okay.
I then decided to install the Nvidia drivers for my GTS 250. I first tried the manual install (sudo sh NVIDIA-INSTALL-NAME.run) and it failed saying something about the nvidia.ko or nvidia.so. I tried using this page http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9203671 to fix it, but it still failed, so then I used the automatic method (sudo apt-get install nvidia-current) and it installed fine, then I ran nvidia-xconfig and restarted.
The VM started up, but no GUI came up, instead, a black screen with a terminal (I think it's called a Virtual Terminal) came up and asked me to log in. I tried the command "startx" from there, and it told me no screens were found.
What can I try?
i installed squid 2.6 proxy server on centos 5.4,squid performs services very nice but after reboot the system.it shows a just black screen written with " GRUB_ " and held the boot process,tell me what should i do ?

My problem is that i whant to install mod_dav_svn trough yum but without updating the latest version of apache form yum repository. If i exclude the httpd package when doing yum install mod_dav mod_dav_svn i get a dependency error witch say that i nedd httpd-mmn installed. So, my question is, how can i use yum to install mod_dav_svn without updating the httpd.
My host is blocking port 3960 which I need to use for an SVN server, they are telling me that I will have to install my own firewall. I've not done this before and am not sure of what to do or whether anything I can install will be enough protection.
