View 2 RepliesI installed VMware server on my CentOS 5 machine. I had problems getting that working. Then I installed VMware Workstation. That worked fine. Then I tried using VMware server, but apparently VMware Workstation deleted some of VMware Servers files. So, I uninstalled VMware Workstation. Then I tried to reinstall VMware Server, but rpm complains package VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64 is already installed
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an i5 Thinkpad running Windows 7 64-bit. VT is enabled in the BIOS. I have installed vmware server v 2.0.2 but am unable to install Centos 5.5 x86_64 as a guest OS. The steps that I followed are as follows:1. Created a new VM, specifying RHEL 5 64-bit as the intended guest OS (per vmware documentation - Centos is not available as a selection2. Downloaded all 8 iso files for Centos v5.5 64-bit3. Modified the CD/DVD drive to 'connect at power' and use an iso with the path pointing to the x86_64 iso 1 of 8When I power up the VM, the console window displays 'ISOLINUX 3.11 2005-09-02 Copyright (C) 1994-2005 H. Peter Anvin' and nothing else. The installation splash screen never appears. As a test, I downloaded the first of 7 iso files for the 32-bit version of Centos 5.5 and pointed the CD/DVD drive to that iso. In that case, the installation starts as expected. I would really like to get the 64-bit version installed and running.

My problem is that I'm trying to install CentOS 5.4 x86_64 DVD ISO on Supermicro X7SBI server with installed Adaptec RAID 3405 controller.
I created RAID 5 array and is working fine (adaptec status says Optimal) but I can't install CentOS to that array (1.5TB size).
Whenever I try to install with: linux dd
I'm asked for a driver, which I have downloaded from Adaptec site and extracted contents to USB drive (in installation found as /sba1) which has now a lot of IMG and some ISO files on it.
I try to load (I simplified names) RHEL5.img, CENTOS.img... with x64 names (one exact name: aacraid driverdisk-CentOS-x86_64.img) and I always get the error message: "No devices of the appropriate type were found on this driver disk"
This is going on for a week now and I can't find the right driver or something I'm doing wrong to get install done.
Since a few weeks I cannot open a console in vmware server 2.0.2 anymore. I don't know exactly when this started because I use vmware only occasionally (I have only 1 program (an old Ashlar DrawingBoard) which does not run properly in wine). VMware server and the console have been working before without problems, but now I get the message "Cannot connect virtual machine console." and it times out. This is on Opensuse 11.1 with VMware Server on the same pc, Firefox and the guest is Windows2000.
I have tried to disable all extensions in firefox 3.6, disabled the firewall, even created a new user (on the same pc) with a clean firefox, all without any result. However when I connect from a different computer which runs Internet Explorer under windowsXP, then I can get the console without problem.
So, somewhere there is something wrong between Firefox and VMware server.
After upgrading Ubuntu to version 11, vmware-server-console stopped working - only gray window opens. After killing the process error message appears:
/usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgio-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VARIANT
I'm trying to setup CentOS 5.4 x86_64 on a new machine but am running into problems. The machine is: CPU: Intel Core i7-860 RAM: 4GiB DDR3 Motherboard: Intel DQ57TM When booting from the disc, I get to the initial splash screen but almost immediately after that, I get a kernel panic.
None of the lines leading up to it mean much to me so I'm not sure what to copy here but the last line says: <0>Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception
I'm trying to learn Linux and have created a VMWare guest operating system using CentOS 4.8. I expect the next step is to install ssh in order to transfer files to the server but as of yet I haven't figured out how to assign it a host name or how to effect a transfer.

The installation of VMware Server 2.0.2 for Linux completed successfully. You can decide to remove this software from your system at any time by invoking the following command: "rpm -e VMware-server".
Before running VMware Server for the first time, you need to configure it for your running kernel by invoking the following command: "/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl".
I tried this command and find the this message
[Akram@localhost Downloads]$ su -c "/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl" Password: Making sure services for VMware Server are stopped.
None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes] yes
Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.
Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.4.2", while you are trying to use "/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.4.3". This configuration is not recommended and VMware Server may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.4.3" anyway? [no] yes
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel?[/usr/src/linux/include]
Now it asks me in last lines that "What is the location of Directory of C header files that match your running kernal?"

I have a few mail servers, a mail log server and a web server running on Centos 5. Now I have a task: to avoid accidental crashes on the production servers while installing updates, my boss asked me to do clones (these clones will all be VMware virtual machines) of the servers (EXCLUDING the actual e-mails and log contents) and then to run those clones on VMWare Server. This way, first I will install and test updates on the clones and - if they will be running without crashes - I will apply the updates on the real production servers themselves.
I have already installed VMWare Server 2.0 I have a few questions: How do I build the virtual machines to exclude the actual mail files and mail logs? Can I use VMware Converter for this purpose, or do I have to use another program? How do I actually do this cloning? Is there a tutorial on how to do this?
I have checked and double checked the .htaccess and httpd.conf to make sure everything is correct and I'm sure it is. I have AllowOverride set to All in the httpd.conf, Apache sees and is reading the .htaccess because I get a 500 Error when I put garbage text in the file. I'm lost now.

Configuration: host box that have an Intel Quad Core CPU Q8300.
Host is CentOS 5.5 64bit, VmWare 1.0.10, guests are CentOS 5.5 32bit (and an Ipcop test box that have 2.4.x kernel)
Considering the 3 CentOS 5.5 32 bit guests (same config for grub and ntpd), I have 1 VM that usually havent' any timedrift, the remaining 2 VMs gain about 15 mins every hour (!!!). constantly, indipendently from load or Similar problem for the IpCop VM.
I need to disable ntpd daemon and put a cron job because ntpd seems not work (but manual ntpdate work, so no fw problem). Sometime is one of the VM that have no driftime problem; after some host reboot, is another. No matter how I configure it (apparently). The VM's hwclock have little or no drift, the system clock have the drift ... I can't find any logic on this ... Some months ago I use Vmware Server 2.x, but switched to 1.x for the annoyng glib problem and the not appreciated new interface. Initially no problems, next (little time before updating the host from 5.4 to 5.5), problems started ... so no apparent ralations with update from 5.4 to 5.5.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have purchased an IBM x336 server. The IBM website says that the server supports Linux. After doing some research, I decided to install CentOS 5.5 on this server. The goal is to use it as a internal web server for testing. My problem lies with the installation process, for some reason Linux does not see my hard drives. The server is equipped with two 36GB hot-swappable SCSI drives. When I get to the screen to choose where to install Linux, it only gives me options to install over a network, which I cannot do, because no hard drives are shown in the list. I have looked through the BIOS but I do not see any settings that would prevent the hard drives from showing. I have been able to boot to CentOS 5.5 using a LiveCD, but even then I still cannot access my hot-swappable SCSI drives.
