GNU Emacs 23.1.1 I've noticed that if I run Emacs and M-x server-start, I can use the emacsclient program as usual, but if if I start Emacs using emacs --daemon and then try to use emacsclient the new frame locks up and the shell outputs *ERROR*: Arithmetic error. This issue doesn't happen if I use the -t flag to force terminal mode when running emacsclient.
View 2 RepliesI've been switching out computers to the Ubuntu distro and so far it's been very successful until this recent snag! As I am trying to have a printer plugged in through USB on one computer and shared on the other! I have the USB on the second computer and it found the printer just fine, no problems and nothing else I had to install! I then went to the first computer and tried to add the printer through the CUPS website using all the proper addresses and queue names and I receive CUPS "client-error-not-possible". I have read other threads on this very same problem but to be honest they just make no sense whatsoever to me! I was thinking of just giving up and using a print server but I know that I will run into the same snag as even then I still need CUPS.

I am trying to setup an HPC4400 printer attached to a Windows XP box on a Fedora-11 box with the latest updates and am getting the error " Cups server error Client-error-not-possible ". Using the Cups GUI on the fedora-11 box I can find the printer, I get verify that the shared printer exists but still get the message when I try to install it.

Fedora finds the network printer, shows that is shares, but when I try to finish I get the above message. I have emptied the spool file of the test page I tried earlier and nothing but the tmp file remains. Anyone have any suggestions?

I just upgraded my system from wheezy to jessie. For the most part, the upgrade was painless, but there's one bit of weirdness that I can't seem to fix on my own.
In my .Xdefaults, I set the font for Emacs with this line:

When I do this, however. the font that appears in Emacs is not any misc-fixed font. See the following image for what Emacs displays. The window for xfontsel shows what font it should be selecting.
Note that both emacs23 and emacs24 (both Debian packages) exhibit this behavior. I also see it with an installation of emacs24 that I compiled myself.
If I use xlsfonts to see what's available matching this pattern, four choices are presented:

If I change the font-spec in Emacs to specify one of the avgWidth parameters (70 or 80), then Emacs displays the correct font. Note that with this spec, Emacs's choice matches what xfontsel displays.

Why Emacs is using the wrong font family when the avgWidth is set to "*". As I understand X font strings, using "*" should make it pick either 70 or 80, but it clearly isn't doing that. A "*" worked with wheezy, so I'm assuming the upgrade changed my font configuration, but I don't know what it might have changed.

When I installed Fedora GNOME I could use my printer fine (But I had to change the recommended driver) Now, I switched to KDE and I plug-in my printer, It automaticly adds it, Now I have to delete it and re-add to fix the small bug... I recently switched over to Fedora 13 but I'm having a bit of trouble. I've tried writing simple programs in Emacs and Eclipse but neither will compile. It always gives the error, "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop."
I've looked around at a couple of forums, but people with the same issue can't install software, but I can. I got Fedora from the Fedora website so I know its complete, but I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm just missing a file or something.
I have downloaded the file "icaclient_11.100_i386.patched.deb" from the Citrix website and installed it on my Ubuntu laptop. Everything seems to work fine. I can login to the secured website and even can click on the application.
After a while I get this error message: "You have not chosen to trust Thawte Server CA, the issuer of the server's security certificate (SSL error 61)"
I deinstalled the ICA Client (Citrix Receiver) and re-installed it again, but nothing seems to help. I keep receiving this "Thawte Server CA" error!
I have checked everything in FireFox (Thawte is there) and also tried to load the certificate, but FF tells me the certificate is already known to it.
So, why am I getting the error that I didnt choose to trust Thawte Server CA?

1. Do I need to have samba server running on the senders side for this to work smbclient -M -L sam (since there was some error popping up when I try to execute this with out samba service running part of the error is tdb(/var/cache/samba/unexpected.tdb):

If I have a hard-disk with Ubuntu fully installed on it and I want to - all of a sudden - use Windows XP, is it mandatory that I firstly format the hard-disk first? So far, I have used two versions of Windows XP; one of them is from a few years before the other. Both copies of Windows XP when in start-up from booting from CD are causing errors. One of them is a BSOD error (0x0000007B) and the next Windows CD is stopping and giving me an error with setupdd.sys (error code 4). Is it required that the hard-disk is formatted before you even put a Windows boot CD in?
