OpenSUSE Wireless :: Apparently Unrecognized Airport Card
Mar 22, 2011I've followed the instructions that I can find as well as I can, but it seems I've hit a relatively unusual condition. Here's the preliminary stuff:

Currently, the interface seems to be set up correctly in the YaST network settings thing, labeled as wlan0, and it doesn't have the 'Not Connected' indicator after it.
EDIT: iwconfig doesn't list wlan0; it just lists eth0 and lo0, saying neither have a wireless extension

I'm using the airport card on a wireless network. How can I manually configure the network once Ubuntu is installed.

Jan 16, 2010I am a new Ubuntu user and just installed Jaunty (9.04, I think) on my iBook G4. Everything was surprisingly smooth with the installation and setup. Ubuntu recognizes my wireless card (it shows a signal indicator in the top menu bar). However, I can't get it to connect to my network. My wireless is open and I entered my static IP and DNS servers. I have read various problems between Ubuntu and Apple's Airport Extreme card.

May 11, 2010I was easily able to install Ubuntu 10.04 (powerpc version) on my old iBook G4 just to see what it was like. After installation, I tried to connect to my Airport Extreme, and it didn't work.
For the past few days, I have been trying to research how to be able to connect to my Airport Extreme, and I have had no luck. Apparently, there is some sort of driver that I have to install called b43-fwcutter, but I have no clue where to find it or how to install it.
Btw, the iBook obviously isn't the only computer I have, so I am able to download necessary packages on other computers, and transport it with USB flashdrives.

I ran the command "sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name" and I got "Macbook 6,2"
On [url] it only lists up to Macbook 6,1 so I just went with that.
I'm trying to install the "Brodcom STA wireless driver" However, when I authenticate it and begin the installation, it says: "Sorry, the installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jokey.log"

Apr 2, 2011I just had to have my MacBook Pro 5,5 replaced, and they replaced it with the brand new 8,1. This is nice, except for the fact that I have now learned that I can't get the video or wireless drivers for this computer. I do not have any access to ethernet, and USB internet does not seem to work. Right now I have Ubuntu 10.04 32bit installed. The installation went fine, but I can't get any drivers. Is there any fix for this? Here are the specs for this laptop:
Intel i5 Sandy Bridge 2.3GHz
320Gig HDD partitioned
Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU
Airport Extreme Broadcom BCM43xx
-NetXtreme BCM57765
-Broadcam Corporation Device 4331
Perhaps there's another distro I can use, or maybe another release that works somewhat?

Oct 21, 2010I have a old mac G4 and I just recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on it. It doesn't recognize my wireless adapter at all so I get no wireless on the computer. I've never used any linux distribution in my life so I don't have any idea how to install drivers for it.

May 27, 2011I have a 2003 iBook G3 White Dual USB laptop running Squeeze. I have a weird question. I found that get the WEP or WPA to work with the card, I basically delete the firmware "agere_sta_fw.bin". As the computer boots, it complains that it can't find the firmware, because it obviously isn't there anymore. However, the wireless card works just fine once it boots up. I can connect to my WEP wifi immediately, which is impossible if it uses the firmware. However, when the computer sleeps (which it likes to do all the time when it isn't plugged in) it hangs on wake trying to find the firmware. After awhile, it gives up and comes back up. The network controllers (LAN and Wireless) are completely missing and cannot be re-activated unless the computer is rebooted.
Now my question is this. What is driving my Orinoco Airport card and Network port when it can't find the correct firmware. Is there a command or program that will tell me what driver it is using to run it. Then, do you suppose that I could map the firmware file to that driver so the computer can wake with out problems?

Nov 7, 2010Aluminum Unibody macbook, the only aluminum macbook to date. It has a Broadcom chip in it and I installed the STA drivers. The first day it seemed to work fine. Then I noticed pages stopped loading. The max throughput I get is like 30KiB/s once in a while. Sometimes I see consistent speeds of 600B/S...this really sucks. Is there a fix or anything?
I was going to make the switch slowly to 10.10 full-time, but the wireless issue is bothering me. The keyboard brightness keys don't work natively, but there's a fix I saw but didn't have time to implement earlier. I like ubuntu but I don't like my wireless not working!

Apr 15, 2010I seem to be have issues periodically connecting to wireless networks with WPA. It'll work one minute, and then I switch my macbook back on after a period and it refuses to connect again. It's happened on and off on three different networks now.

Apr 28, 2011I have MacBook 3,1. I just installed 11.04. When I go to activate the "Broadcom STA wireless driver" I get the message "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log" When I check the log the message is "2011-04-28 18:38:59,896 DEBUG: BroadcomWLHandler enabled(): kmod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43legacy: blacklisted"
I have had 10.04 on this computer in the past and it worked fine, but this is a fresh install of 11.04. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Jun 11, 2011I was curious if anyone has dual booted Ubuntu on this model iMac, (Mid 2011 with 4gb ram, 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor, the current model in the apple store).
When I dual booted on my MacBook I came across a plethora of problems, such as the sound not working properly or the wireless card not being supported.
Does anyone know if these same problems exist for the iMac or is everything business as usual?

May 14, 2011I had just installed Ubuntu in my brother's laptop and the drivers for the laptop`s wireless card got deleted, or that's what is leading me to believe. Prior to the installation, the laptop was picking up wireless signals just fine. I tried finding the drivers on the INTERNET but there are too many and I don't want to get the wrong one. Even so, I don't know how to install it through Ubuntu or anything. I tried the "disswrapping" app. but it was looking for some sort of ".if" file type. I also tried using the Terminal, but I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff. I got Ubuntu 2 days ago on my own laptop.

Aug 7, 2010Anyway, I've a decent understanding of the various Linux console commands and know how to work my way around a text editor or file system. But I can't seem to fix what's wrong with my computer. I'll list my info here and then discuss the most pressing issues that I need help with.
It's a 17" PowerBook G4, with Airport Extreme (which I understand is a headache all on its own: I'll likely get to that later)
Results of ~$ lspci:
I downloaded the most recent .iso for the PowerPC from [url], specifically the 4.4 GB DVD copy.
During installation, I told it to install only the Desktop Environment and Base System. Installation went through without a hitch, though it failed to connect properly to my Wireless card.
The first issue I encounter after booting is during the login. When logging in as a non-root user, I'm told to change my password immediately (root enforced). I've done this every time I've logged in. Immediately after when I log in I'm told that the system clock is wrong: It's currently set to Jan. 1, 1970. If I try to change it, I get a message saying that I can't, and my desktop won't load properly. If I ignore the system clock issue and try to change it in System > Administration > Time and Date later, after entering my admin password I get a message that says
Failed to run time-admin as user root.
Failed to communicate with gksu-helper.
Received:
Changing password for root.
While expecting:
Apparently the password issue is related to the Time and Date settings (according to Google), but I can't fix those because it wants me to change my password.

I want to get the wireless working. I did an 'lsmod' and I found that the modules for this card is not installed. I tried to start Network Manager, but network manager cannot connect to wireless but it cant. How and where can I get the drivers for this and how do I install those modules. Mar 18, 2011With nearly all Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Linux Mint being the exceptions), my system never seems to recognize that my laptop even has a wireless card attached to it. That is, when I run "lspci" the wireless card doesn't even show up on the list like it does with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint. This narrows my options when it comes to choosing a distro to install on my computer. I can't seem to find instructions as to how I can make my wireless card work. I assume it needs a driver. I managed to find the driver, I think, in the form of a .tar.gz file. The card is a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL 8191SEvB Wireless Lan Controller (rev 10).

I have a wireless PCMCIA card.The model of the wireless card is NL-2511CD EXT2(ETSI).When I insert that card to the PCMCIA slot a window pops up and ask for a WEP key. My wireless router is configured with WPA but above pop-up has no WPA option. I suspect my fedora installation does not have the necessary driver for my wireless card.I want to install that driver. Feb 15, 2011installing the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e.
performed the following steps .....
1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
2.# cd package
3.# ./configure
4.# make
5.# make install
I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about
"Linux kernel source directory [/usr/src/2.6.18-92.el5PAE-i386]: Configure"
I just pressed the enter button and it went to the next message which is
"Linux source tree 'Configure' is incomplete or missing!" Configuration failed
