View 1 RepliesI have recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 but am unable to connect to any of the wireless networks. Network manager does not shows any of the available wireless networks and upon clicking the network connection icon, under Wireless networks category it shows "Device not ready".Following are the results of some of the commands :
iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

I just did a fresh wipe and install of Ubuntu 11.04 on my Dell D630 Latitude. I installed connected to the internet and ubuntu recognized I was missing firmware and I installed and rebooted. Now the "firmware missing" notice is gone but I don't know how to connect to my wifi. I can access internet with the ethernet cable.
This is the lspci:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub (rev 0c)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary) (rev 0c)

I feel like I just need to add the wifi network, but I don't know what info to put into the fields.
make a wireless connection to an ATT 2wire router ESSID called "WIGGERS" that I do not control. My Dell D630 does connect successfully to other WPA broadcasts. I am running Natty (11.04) with the default Unity interface.iwconfig does see "WIGGERS", but the Network Connections application on the menu bar eventually times out and asks for the authentication code. When I put in the code, it still does not connect.I do successfully connect to "WIGGERS" using another laptop running Win XP so I know the code is correct. The Windows machine indicates that it is using:etwork authentication: WPA2-PSK Data encryption AESSomething that may be causing the problem is that the router is apparently putting out two signals (see iwlist output below). Both Cell 01 and Cell 02 have the same ESSID.Below I have pasted output from lspci, iwconfig, and iwlist:
Code:
Latitude-D630:~$ lspci -nn | grep 0280
0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection

View 14 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and my wireless card no longer works.
The card is a Dell 1450 USB a/b/g card.

dmesg says that p54usb is trying to load firmware isl3887usb but that failed (error -2)
I looked in /lib/firmware and didn't find that file

However I am having some issues with drivers. I need to install a Patriot Wireless N USB wireless adapter in Crunchbang but when I follow the directions for installing the drivers and am using the command "make" I get an error that says '*** /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/build: No such file or directory. Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! Additionally, I can't figure out how to disable my Touchpad's Tap to Click funtionality, which must be done if I'm to effectively use my current KDE installation of openSUSE
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just acquired a Wi-Fire long-range wi-fi adapter, and I would like to test it with my Ubuntu desktop computer. However, my machine defaults to using an internal, discrete wireless card (not hard-wired into the motherboard.) How can I set my new wireless adapter as the default wireless connection? How can I disable my internal wireless card (without opening my computer case)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to Linux and Ubuntu. However it was very easy and smooth to install and get updated using my wired ethernet connection. I am now trying to understand how to have my wireless network adapter recognized or driver installed. I will be searching around the forums but it suggested I make an initial post as a new user. I am using an older Dell Inspiron 2200. I believe the chipset in my wireless adapter is indeed Broadcomm, so hopefully that will help direct any responses.

A friend of mine has a Dell XPS1530 lappy that has a broadcom bcm4328 wireless adapter. I tried installing kismet on it so I can scan for wireless network in range. I configured it with the source driver as bcm43xx in kismet.conf and complained that the driver didn't support monitor mode. It uses the proprietary 'wl' kernel module to operate but kismet can't use the 'wl' module and it says the same error. I tried unloding the wl and b44 modules and loding the b43 driver but then the adapter stoped working. I searched on the net a bit and found out that kisment doesn't work with the prorpietary drivers for that card.
