View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased Buffalo Nfiniti Wireless USB Adapter (WLI-UC-GN) but have no idea how to get it to work in Ubuntu. My previous adapter (a D-Link) just had to be plugged in and it was ready to go. The WLI-UC-GN adapter lights up (stays solid though), but no wireless networks are found. I believe Ubuntu sees the adapter, it just isn't working with Ubuntu.
I have read a few other posts but them a little confusing. If any one could please help me and keep it simple (I'm fairly new to Ubuntu); I would be grateful. By the way, I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10 last night hoping I am also using WICD Network Manager because I heard it's better than the native manager.
i would just like to verify that the command
lspci would show the FC adapter installed
is there any other command that i can use to verify the FC adapter is being installed
However I am having some issues with drivers. I need to install a Patriot Wireless N USB wireless adapter in Crunchbang but when I follow the directions for installing the drivers and am using the command "make" I get an error that says '*** /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/build: No such file or directory. Stop . *** [modules] Error 2"

However, my machine defaults to using an internal, discrete wireless card (not hard-wired into the motherboard.) How can I set my new wireless adapter as the default wireless connection? How can I disable my internal wireless card (without opening my computer case)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to Linux and Ubuntu. However it was very easy and smooth to install and get updated using my wired ethernet connection. I am now trying to understand how to have my wireless network adapter recognized or driver installed. I will be searching around the forums but it suggested I make an initial post as a new user. I am using an older Dell Inspiron 2200. I believe the chipset in my wireless adapter is indeed Broadcomm, so hopefully that will help direct any responses.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has a Dell XPS1530 lappy that has a broadcom bcm4328 wireless adapter. I tried installing kismet on it so I can scan for wireless network in range. I configured it with the source driver as bcm43xx in kismet.conf and complained that the driver didn't support monitor mode. It uses the proprietary 'wl' kernel module to operate but kismet can't use the 'wl' module and it says the same error. I tried unloding the wl and b44 modules and loding the b43 driver but then the adapter stoped working. I searched on the net a bit and found out that kisment doesn't work with the prorpietary drivers for that card.

I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal
