Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Dell 1450 USB Adapter Stops Working After Upgrade To 10.04?
May 1, 2010I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and my wireless card no longer works.
The card is a Dell 1450 USB a/b/g card.
lsusb sees the card. device id is 413c:8104
dmesg says that p54usb is trying to load firmware isl3887usb but that failed (error -2)
I looked in /lib/firmware and didn't find that file
ps. god why did i upgrade?

Dec 23, 2009I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.

Feb 25, 2010I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:

Slackware :: Connect To Internet With Wireless Adapter?
Jun 10, 2011I recently moved out of state and don't have access to the net, however the neighbor of where I am staying is nice enough to let me leech off of her network till I get going. I know next to nothing about slackware and wireless networks since I have never had to mess with it. I have done my reading and have gotten this far.
1) wirelss card is installed and recognized, its a PCI b/g card that uses the ath5 module. The module is loaded and seems to be working.
2) I have heard wicd is easy so I installed it from /extra and it found my essid and accepted the wep password and it says connected at 45% and shows an IP.
however when I launch firefox or try to ping out nothing happens.
Ubuntu Networking :: Installing SMC USB Ez Connect G Wireless Adapter?
Apr 19, 2010I have Ubuntu 9.10, which I just now installed on my Dell Dimension 3000. The computer has all of its USB ports working perfectly; tested in Windows. I plugged in my SMC USB Ez Connect g wireless adapter, and it isn't even recognized by the system. I used lsusb, and nothing except the USB keyboard and mouse shows up. Every time I boot or shut down, I get tons of errors saying that it's "unable to enumerate USB device on Port...," then the port number of whichever port I plug the wireless adapter into. I've tried using ndiswrapper, and have completely installed the Windows drivers using that (which were the same ones that worked perfectly in Windows XP Pro). I've tried looking into compat-wireless and Linux Wireless, and have successfully installed the zd1211rw drivers and everything. The drivers install completely and work, there is just no hardware present, or so it says. This is what the terminal says when I type dmesg, and also part of what shows up on booting and shutdown:

I hope I've given enough information. Oh, and I downloaded Ubuntu a few days ago from their website, burned to a CD-R, installed, and downloaded all updates that it asked me to. Other than that and the ndiswrapper and driver installation, I've done nothing on the system.

Aug 31, 2010I have an HP Pavilion dv5 1002nr laptop running Vista. I decided to install Ubuntu using the windows installer, which did install well, but I decided that it wasn't for me, and uninstalled it. Now, my wireless adapter which is a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g can see the network, find networks by itself, and is supposedly installed correctly according to Vista, cannot connect to any networks at all despite being able to see them and acquire a signal strength. Up until installing Ubuntu I have never had an issue like this. Other devices have no trouble connecting to this network, and I am currently using a Netgear wireless usb dongle to connect to the very network that my Atheros can not connect to.

Feb 5, 2011I am having trouble getting my wireless internet working on Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. My wireless card works just fine in an earlier version (8.10) of Ubuntu. In fact, it worked right out of the box on Intrepid. However, in 9.10, I can not get it to work. I have installed Wicd Network Manager in it, and it shows no networks visible, even though if I reboot and go into my 8.10 version (I have a multiboot), opening Wicd will immediately show several wireless networks within range. So I'm thinking that the 9.10 version is missing a driver for my wireless card, which 8.10 has.

Sep 14, 2010I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card and a Marvell Yukon 88e8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller, and I cannot for the life of me get the internet to connect. I've tried both wired and wireless connection. I have a PPoE connection through a Verizon FIOS Actiontek router I believe, though the PPoE part may be wrong, I had one five years ago when I first got their internet so they may have changed it. Point is that the ethernet and internet won't work, and without a working ethernet I can't fetch the right drivers for anything.
I had also tried plain ubuntu 10.04 and couldn't get them to work then either. It said 'disconnected' at first, and then said 'device not ready' There is no hardware switch but there is a key toggle. It doesn't seem to matter what state the wireless was in before booting into Ubuntu Studio, so I'm lost as to where to even start. Even though the network manager isn't there like in regular ubuntu, I assume there will be a simple way to connect to the internet once the drivers are found, right?
I've seen issues and read about fixing them, but usually it uses an ethernet connection to fix the wifi connection and, being new to linux (<50 hours worth of experience lifetime), all I managed to do trying to fix it myself was screw up the installation to the point where the laptop couldn't access the home folder and I had to reinstall. Other than that, I am usually very good at following instructions, as long as they apply to my laptop's issue I guess
The only other issue is minor, I can't seem to control the USB mouse I have, but the trackpad works fine so it's no big deal, probably a matter of downloading the mouse driver once the internet works.
Currently I do have internet access via the same laptop while booting Windows 7 (I installed Ubuntu Studio 10.04 on a 10GB Partition with the idea of using an external HD for most data storage).
Oh and it is a 64-bit machine, the Studio version I installed is 32-bit.

May 15, 2010I bought a new Eee PC yesterday ripped off Windows and stuck Ubuntu 10.04 on (which is great by the way). It's all working fine except for the wireless I think I have: RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe. I've installed ndiswrapper and installed the drivers and I can connect to my wireless but I get no internet. It works fine on my windows box or when I plug the cable in. I've looked around and been fiddling with it for hours and no joy, it all seems to be installed correctly its just not working!

Mar 19, 2011I have a LG X140 G.BG12P1. This netbook has a factory installed Windows 7 Starter Edition, which is working without any problems or issues. I recently installed on a free partition the Ubuntu Netbook 10.10, and I'm really upset because of the wireless issues I'm having here. If I use the Ethernet wired connection, I don't have any problems. In Windows 7, I don't have any problems either on Ethernet and on Wireless card. But when I try to use Ubuntu with the wireless card, I'm having very slow access to web pages, and sometimes they simply refuse to appear. I can open my DIR-655 router web pages without any problems. It appears to be a DNS related problem, because when I try to opne web pages using their IP (like [url]) I don`t have this issue. I modified my resolv.conf file to inlude my ISP DNS, but didn't work.

However, I can't get wireless to work. It works for my Windows Vista which is on the same laptop I installed Ubuntu on... what do I do?? At first my computer didn't seem to see the card at all, but then I typed the command (sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source) and then restarted the computer and now I'm connected to the network, but cannot connect to the internet so how do I figure this out.
