OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Invada And Calf Plugin GUIs - Can't Get To Show
Dec 12, 2009Is there a way to have the Invada and Calf pugins show their GUIs in Opensuse 11.2 with Ardour 2.8.4. The GUIs will show when opened outside of Ardour using the Calfjackhost but not in Ardour. The GUIs will display in Ardour when using other Linux distro I try but can't get them to show in Opensuse.

Jan 5, 2010I tried to do my parents a favor by installing Ubuntu 9.10 alongside WinXP on their PC -- same configuration I have on my desktop at home. The install went fine, but since I made a poor buying decision on purchasing a MSI motherboard in the past, Ubuntu immediately crashes after boot (other MSI board users having the same issue, no help from MSI).
The computer tries to boot Ubuntu by default unless something else is selected from the boot menu. How do I change the boot preference from default (choice 0) to WinXP? I tried manually changing this (editing the grub.cfg file), but the file said not to edit, that it's generated by something else...How do I have WinXP load by default instead of the broken Ubuntu?

Jul 6, 2010I have recently created a KDE 4 desktop using suse studio, it boots up fine on my machine, but doesn't shutdown!!
On my mum's laptop, which I will be using it most on, (it's windoez) it won't start KDE 4 at all! I can use the console, but I wanted to impress her with the amazing GUI and Compiz. And you can't make presentations or browse the web in a console, can you?
And sudo poweroff and sudo shutdown -h now don't work either!

Feb 18, 2011I am trying to install opensuse on an IBM 8188 desktop with a single SATA hdd. The software appears to load just fine.. standard install but when I reboot the box .. believing it should just boot from the hard drive I get the message no OS installed. I've adjusted the bios and the drive order and I have changed to install parameters for APC or APIC.... you know what I mean... doesn't matter NO JOY IN MUD VILLE.

I have one hard drive with windows XP on it. Another with Ubuntu. As it stands there is no link between them. Is it possible to create a dual boot using these disks? - I do not want to reinstall any of them.
Preferably, I would like the boot choice (or booter? - not really sure what I'm talking about) to be on the newer Ubuntu drive.
It is on an old machine with 256MB Ram. So slow in fact, I'm going to change the desktop environment to Xubuntu - but that's mostly irrelevant.
As I understand it, I should make the Ubuntu drive master, XP as slave... but then what?

Jul 7, 2010I put windows 7 on my desktop which is a dell E521. I had windows vista on their previously and had a dual boot setup on it. When I installed win 7 on I just did the upgrade so I wouldn't have to reformat my hardrive and now when I boot up it will not show the option to boot into windows or ubuntu.

Fedora Installation :: Live CD Hangs After Boot Choice?
Jan 1, 2010I was using Ubuntu 9.10, until I got a new graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT). After I got that upgrade, Ubuntu no longer supported that card for some reason, so I decided to try Linux Mint since it was a close relative to Ubuntu. Still no support for the video card.
I've always wanted to try Fedora so I decided to grab the x86_64 live cd and burn it. I stick it into my disk drive and it boots where it shows me the options to "Boot" "Verify and Boot" "Boot from Hard Disk" and one other option.
I tried the Boot option, and after selecting that, everything stalls, and my display turns off (not the entire monitor, just the display). I tried Verify and Boot, and still no luck.
I have also tried the i686 live cd and the same issue. It can not be the way I am burning it, cause I've gotten other live cd's to work with the same method of burning. Is it that Fedora does not support the card?
I am trying to get the GNOME version up and running.

May 16, 2011So I'm currently On Windows XP professional and want to dual-boot with Ubuntu....
Right, so I downloaded first the ISO for ubuntu here: [URL]
And then proceeded to downloading the windows installer here: [URL]
However after "Successfully" Installing, I do not get a choice to boot from ubuntu on start-up...
I have tried several things;
Re-installing - To no effect Downloading EasyBCD, which tells me that I have No BCD file, and when I opened my Boot.ini file, it was blank... Also, there is no folder C:Boot....
Now I don't know what to do and am scared to re-start just incase it doesn't boot to anything...

Ubuntu :: Choice Of File System For Dual Boot With Win7.
Jul 4, 2010I'm gonna setup a dual boot with Windows 7 on my system. My partition layout will be something like this:
Win7 -> ntfs
Ubuntu (root + home) -> ext4
Swap
Data (media & documents) -> ?
What file system should I choose for the data partition? If I go with ext3/4 it seems I can access them from Win7 using a file system driver, but it seems far from safe, from what google tells me. The driver installers aren't for Win7, and I need Ext4 without extents or an ext3-fs with an inode size of 128 to make it work at all. It saddens me to ask, but should I just go with NTFS?

Jan 22, 2011I have a Dell Precision 330 with (the latest) A09 BIOS and 1 TB SATA hard drive. There is a SATA-IDE converter between the SATA HD and the ATA133 cable. The OS was Window XP Professional SP3.
When adding RH Enterprise Linux 6 onto the computer, I created two additional partitions, one 400 GB for Linux's storage and a 10 GB swap space. I chose Window XP as the default OS.
After the installation, when the system started up, I can hit a key to have two optional OS: Window XP and Linux. If I chose Linux, the system would boot up. If I chose Window XP, the boot failed with a message that windowssystem32configsystem was missing or corrupted. I read some articles that the problem can be fixed in window's recovery console with fixboot. After entering the fixboot command and restarting the computer, Window XP still failed to boot with an error message that another file was missing.
I thought I might have made some mistakes in the installation procedure and it would be cleaner to reinstall both OS. So I tried to install Window XP Professional again. Unfortunately, after booting from Window XP CD and formating the MBR and copying the window XP files, the computer can not restart with the installed XP. Instead, the computer boot from Window XP's CD repeatedly. If I remove Window XP's CD, the computer simply can not boot at all.
I began to wonder whether RH's Enterprise Linux made some change on the MBR of the HD that Window XP can not format.

wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:24:01:e7:94:75 by local choice (reason=3) i found a lot of bugs messages relating to this, including the "fix" removing the network manger. i did remove it, but it did not help. i also removed wpa2 and tried with no encryption, but that showed more errors. so i tried 11.1 live-cd and it worked flawlessly. then i tried kernel 2.6.35-rc3-6-pae from the factory repo. then, i got sick of reading without finding a bugfix and i edited the kernel source myself (no, not dangerous, and yes i knew what i was doing). i commented out line 2963 to 2966 in rivers/net/wireless/hostap/hostap_ioctl.c . well, that worked for the deauthenticating issue, but now i have 40% to 60% package loss in my wlan. again i tried my 11.1 live-cd and it still worked. then i compiled kernel 2.6.37 vanilla from kernel.org, but that, too,

Jun 26, 2011I have an old computer I have setup as a backup computer / Linux practice computer. It is a Sun Ultra2 w/ 2x200MHz SPARC CPUs, 512MB RAM, 9.1GB SCSI HD, and Creator 3D video card. It is running Debian 6, by default with no GUI installed. But, I am wanting to try out several minimalistic GUIs with it. So, first thing I did was:
aptitude install icewm
aptitude install xserver-xorg-video-sunffb
aptitude install rcconf (used to disable X from automatically starting)
aptitude install xfe
startx
And well, it worked. Well, for some reason, I couldnt read any of the buttons in xfe, and it was stuck in the upper left corner of the screen. So then I tried PCManFM, which was better, but the icons were still all blank. However, upon trying other WMs, I have had very little success. I got dwm working, but didnt try it out for too long before removing it and trying others. I was able to get LXDE to work, and that was that last thing I got to work. Now Ive tried IceWM again, as well as jwm, and every time I end up with a black screen.
By the way, any suggestions on a WM/FM (and maybe panel) combo would be greatly appreciated as well. Even with IceWM and PCManFM, this system is pretty slow. Its really going to mostly be used as a backup internet machine. Whats the bare minimum setup to get icons on the desktop?
Fedora :: What Is Proper Way To Program For Based GUIs?
Aug 21, 2010I have recently been programming with Qt and slowly getting my head around it.I want to have a pet project to learn some more and then I got to thinking how should I go about this.My question is what is the proper way to program for Linux based GUIs? One of the things I would like to write is a small front end for newspost. I want to include extra stuff like rar and creating pars on the fly. So how should I go about integrating other CLI programs to make my GUI feature rich? I thought of three ways to approach this.
1. Take all source code and throw it into one self containing project. (think this is evil)
2. The GUI will basically assemble CLI commands and call them. This is nice but can very fragile.
3. The GUI will compile against rar-libs and other libs?
I am originally an MS programmer and don't think I should apply same practices toward Linux. So let me know what your opinions are and how you roll out GUIs.

I tried to print to this PDF called printer, but the cups-pdf printer doesn't create any files or user dirs in the default spool directory /var/spool/cups-pdf.
