General :: Auto-mount Virtual Machine Locations When VMware Image Finishes Loading?

Jun 20, 2011

I mount a few locations from a VMware virtual machine, but currently every time I start up VMware I need to re-mount the locations once the VMware image has started up fully, which gets tedious. I'd like to be able to mount them automatically when VMware is started.

I generally double-click the .VMX file (which is associated with VMware Player) to launch the virtual machine, but once it has finished loading I would need to run the mount commands manually or execute a bash script that does it.

Is there any way you can think of to have it done automatically? One way I can think of is to start my virtual machine by running a script that starts VMware player, sleeps for a minute or so, then runs the mount command - but setting the right sleep interval would be difficult because this varies a fair bit - and overall, it's a solution that's kinda icky and that I'd like to avoid if there's some better option.

General :: Fedora 14 - Stuck At Post Installation Process

Feb 7, 2011

I am pretty new to Linux OS's, but I have gone through the process of installing linux onto several of my system already. The problem I am having is when I attempt to install Fedora 14 onto my Unbuntu 10.10 (erasing Unbuntu to be specific) I am stuck at the Post-Installation process.
I am using a CD-RW to install Fedora onto my Ubuntu, and I installed Ubuntu onto the computer originally with another CD-R.

I assume this usually takes a few minutes, as the pop-up says that it may take several, but it has been several hours with no progress. I was pretty far into the installation when the pop up appeared, and it said:
"Post-Installation: Performing post-installation filesystem changes. This may take several minutes.".
As I said, it has been several hours.

General :: Auto Unrar Files And Move Whitelist To Another Directory

May 10, 2011

I'm looking for a script that can be run regularly with Cron.

Check a folder for Rar files every few minutes, Unrar if present, and delete the left over files once done.

Be able to specify the directory of which folder to watch within the script.

Run an extension white list (.avi, .mkv, .mp4) and blacklist (rar files) of files to be moved.

Specify within the script which folder to move found files to.

I've seen a few online that does some of this or much more than this but I'm looking for something that just does this in a simple and efficient way... (Also for the life of me, I just can't get how to edit this to do what I'm looking for)

General :: Access ISO And Other CD-image Files In System?

Jul 11, 2010

I just downloaded a computer game which I have never done before even when I had windows and my Ubuntu ( Linux ) used "Transmission" to download it. It downloaded to my desktop and now I have a folder with two files in it on my desktop that when I open say "Write to Disk" and gives me the different options. But I read in the comments on the game I downloaded that I can access ISO and other CD-image files using a program called Daemon Tools which is a windows program used as a virtual CD-Rom Drive. How can I do something like this with Linux?

Fedora :: Nautilus Viewer - Disable Image Auto Rotate?

Nov 5, 2009

I've noticed in Gnome pretty much all applications auto-rotate images when viewing, but leave the original image data intact. This may sound silly, but when I want to post pictures on, for instance, Facebook they upload as the picture was originally taken. So, if I took a picture with the camera flipped sideways it appears upright in Nautilus and the two image viewers I have installed, but when I upload the picture it appears to be flipped on its side. Does anyone know how to disable the auto-rotate when viewing feature?

General :: Remove Software That Views Image Files?

Jun 22, 2011

I am considering removing all programs and software that handle images so that you cannot view images on the computer and .jpeg would be an unrecognizable file. It's impossible to remove the program that views images in Windows since Explorer is that program - a central Windows component, but I wonder if it is possible to use an alternative operating system like linux and remove the programs that handle images without affecting the system.

I need to do this because of the following problem. I had an internet filter installed but it became useless once certain proxy/circumventor sites such as www.ibypass.com were discovered, which allowed access to any website on the internet. Blocking proxy sites does not work because you can type "https" at the beginning of some of these web addresses and the internet filter cannot keep track of the secure browsing

Networking :: VPN - Post Connection - Unable To Locate Files?

Aug 24, 2010

I used my colleges online site to automatically install and setup the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client. Everything went smoothly. I have a Cisco icon in my system tray and it says that I am connected to the VPN.

My question then is where do I access the VPN? I am assuming that I can access the other computers at the other end of the VPN as I would if they were networked to me, however I cannot seem to find any information on how this is done after the connection is made.

I looked in the Network folder which is where I figured everything would be, but there is nothing other than the normal, empty, network folders.

I am running Linux Mint 9, KDE 4.4

My friend Google let me down, and every VPN how to I can find ends at the "connected" stage, never getting into details about where to go from there...

General :: Fedora Ethernet File Locations For Auto Eth - X - Devices Missing Ifcfg-ethX Files

Jul 24, 2010

Missing ifcfg-eth[2-5] fileset for ZNYX 345Q Quad Port 10/100 cards. I have showing in the gui network device that my ports for my ZNYX ZX345Q Quad Port card my ports are Auto eth2, Auto eth3 etc. My Motherboard and Intel cards show as System eth0 and System eth1.

There ARE corresponding entries for those in my /etc/sysconfig/network-settings/ directory, but there are not ifcfg-eth[2-5] files to correspond to these adapters. Can I just write my own files and that will do it?

How does Fedora 12/13 load these drivers into the kernel without having these ifcfg files?

I'd love to know if there is another way Fedora controls NICs / other system resources.

Graphics: Sapphire Toxic ATI 5850 - 2GB - DDR5Am always used to 32-bit Linux installation. Now I would like to go with the FC14 64-bit on this workstation. My question is:a) How different would be a FC 64-bit compared to 32-bit (8GB RAM issues I faced in Windows 7 32-bit)b) What would be potential problems during the installation and/or post installation. I get these questions in my mind because of Motherboard and Graphics card support and also thinking about applications (issues) on FC14.
