Fedora X86/64bit :: What Would Be Potential Problems During The Installation And/or Post Installation
Dec 28, 2010
I'm using couple of Intel Core i7 based workstations. Here is one such example:Processor: Core i7-870 (Lynfield) Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD6RAM: Corsair DDR3-1600 - 8GB (4 sticks). Graphics: Sapphire Toxic ATI 5850 - 2GB - DDR5Am always used to 32-bit Linux installation. Now I would like to go with the FC14 64-bit on this workstation. My question is:a) How different would be a FC 64-bit compared to 32-bit (8GB RAM issues I faced in Windows 7 32-bit)b) What would be potential problems during the installation and/or post installation. I get these questions in my mind because of Motherboard and Graphics card support and also thinking about applications (issues) on FC14.
I am trying to install fedora 10 kickstart on my server. But I can't, because my kickstart installation hangs at post install scripts. It is not showing any message & stopped.
I'm trying to perform an install of F14 (fresh install over F13), and it has been showing "running post-installation scripts" for 1 1/2 hours now. I am wondering if this is unusual and what the implications might be of power-cycling and rebooting. I'd note this is a fairly fast machine with 2 quad-core Xeons (I forget their model number).
So, my second real attempt at getting the 64 bit F11 up and running. I just started adding stuff before all the updates. Crash. So, I'm in the post install phase. Before anything else I installled akmod-nvidia manually, rebooted, and I'm doing yum update right now. I'm hoping many dependencies are solved in the update. There are about 209 line items to update after the initial install. Been updated all afternoon.
So, after the updates are done, I'm heading over to download the different repos I need for the fun stuff. Did you know Java is installed with this first yum update? Wasn't like that in F10. I think I tried 5 times on F10 before I got it right.
I installed Fedora on IBM desktop PC with 40 GB. During installation I only created Boot and swap partitions and remain 30 GB as free space and now I want to create partitions from 30 GB free of Harddisk and I do in Windows XP and use Administration TOOL and create an other partition. so How I can create partitions on fedora after completed installation of Fedora Desktop. Need steps of post harddisk partition tool in Fedora.
My system is Dell 4300S with 1.4 GHz Pentium processor, recently upgraded to 1 GB RAM,120 GB WDC1200JB hard drive Sony DRU-720A DVD/RW drive, ATT plugandshare wireless adapter with Atheros AR5001X chip, ATI Rage 128 Pro Ultra TF video card, and Actiontec V90, and 56KFlex modem (Agere System Venus). I attempted to use preupgrade to upgrade from Fedora 12 to 14 using wireless connection. It seems, that upgrade finished successfully, except I am not unable to get to a GDM login. I updated SElinux to selinux-policy-3.9.7-10 and selinux-policy-targeted-3.9.7-10, and touch /.autorelabel overnight, I was able to login using GDM once. And that is all. After I boot, after Ctrl+Alt+F4, I can login to terminal.
I recently upgraded to Fedora 14 from F13 using Yum, it worked to my amazement except now yum appears to be broken because of a massive amount of dependency issues. It appears the old F13 packages are still around and yum is unable to get ride of them because their dependency with F14 packages of the same name. I tried yum distro-sync, and I tried yum resolvedep $(package-cleanup --orphans) --skip-broken but to no avail. Package--cleanup--orphans identifies all of the left over F13 packages.
I also can't install or upgrade anything using Yum, does give me a reason except the massive amount of dependency issues with the left over F13 packages. When I use the graphical software update it tells me among other things that Yum and RPM have updates but of course it won't update. I did follow the instructions and used yum update yum before I upgraded to F14, maybe it didn't take? Anyway to resolve this issue other than a clean install?
I just set up Fedora14 on a PC in order to use it as an Amahi home server, but missed the step about adding the Amahi software repository during installation. I am looking for a way to add this repository.I found a support site that should show how to do this here:
[UR]
The first step is: 1. Create /etc/yum.repos.d/amahi.repo as root user I open a terminal, log in as root and enter "/etc/yum.repos.d/amahi.repo", and get the response No such file or directory.
1. Is post installation of the Amahi repository on a completely fresh Fedora14 a viable solution?
2. My experience with Linux/Fedora started yesterday evening - Is it possible to get a newbie proof explanation on how to perform the post installation?
I am pretty new to Linux OS's, but I have gone through the process of installing linux onto several of my system already. The problem I am having is when I attempt to install Fedora 14 onto my Unbuntu 10.10 (erasing Unbuntu to be specific) I am stuck at the Post-Installation process. I am using a CD-RW to install Fedora onto my Ubuntu, and I installed Ubuntu onto the computer originally with another CD-R.
I assume this usually takes a few minutes, as the pop-up says that it may take several, but it has been several hours with no progress. I was pretty far into the installation when the pop up appeared, and it said: "Post-Installation: Performing post-installation filesystem changes. This may take several minutes.". As I said, it has been several hours.
I just (for the first time ever) installed a version of Ubuntu. It is 10.04. I installed off of the Live Disk. I was having a great time until the first time I went to boot into it and I got the message "Error: No such device: "long number" Grub Rescue> "
I performed a clean install of Fedora 15 from DVD and it goes fine until the end when the install program says to reboot the computer. Once I do that, the computer hangs before Grub loads, i.e. just after all of the BIOS messages, so there isn't any error message to indicate what is wrong. I had no issues with Fedora 14.
Everytime I attempt to install anything, in any way, I'm given the following error message:
E: lib32nss-mdns: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 E: wine1.2: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
I went into Synaptics Package Manager and told it to uninstall WINE in case that was what was causing the problems. It sort of half-uninstalled-it then gave me that exact same error message.I have two threads currently open on the forums - adjusting laptop brightness and flashing BIOS - and both problems hit a brick wall because of this same error message.
I ran this command on a new centos 5.6 64 bit install today: rpm -Uhv http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/x86_64/rpmforge/RPMS//rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm Sadly I failed to read a warning about setting priorities as a prerequisite to avoid rpmforge overwriting base Centos packages.
The install is a standard Cpanel web/email server and seems ok at the moment. My concern is I intend to clone this VS about ten times. Should I be concerned and if so, is there any way I can safely undo the rpmforge install? Eg can I use "rpm -e rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5.rf" without vile consequences?
I'm trying to install Kubuntu 9.10 on my machine (I had the same problem with Kubuntu 9.04). The machine is:
- Core 2 Quad 6600 - Nvidia 7600 GS - Two disk seagate 500 in mirroring raid software
When I try to install Kubuntu, after disk partition, my system dosn't see the CD. He tell me to insert disk into drive but I doesn't touch it. I resolved this mounting an external hard disk into /cdrom. After this, the installation continues until the step "select and install software". At this step, the installation procedure tell me an error. During this error, in the other console, I've this:
Code: Jan 19 21:58:09 in-target: Alcuni pacchetti non possono essere installati. Questo può voler dire Jan 19 21:58:09 in-target: che è stata richiesta una situazione impossibile oppure, se si sta Jan 19 21:58:09 in-target: usando una distribuzione in sviluppo, che alcuni pacchetti richiesti [Code]....
I have tried to install PHP 5.2.9 with some libraries (libjpeg, libpng, libiconv, libmcrypt, magickwand) on F10. I had resolved some problems linked with setting the flags for the compiler but lastest error stumped me.
The error
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lltdl collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [libphp5.la] Error 1
I tried relinking the libltdl.so.3 but I still got this error.
When I attempted to install 64-bit Fedora from my DVD, it failed while installing packages with the unhandled exception:
" Traceback: File /usr/lib/anaconda/users.py, line 163, in setRootPassword, self.admin.setpassUser(rootuser,cryptPassword(pass word,algo=algo),True) File /usr/lib/anaconda/instdata.py,line 171, in write,algo=self.getPassAlgo()
[code]...
I know Python quite well but I have no idea why None is being passed as the first argument to self.admin.setpassUser when a non-None value is needed. The other curious thin is that the trace does not show the call to setpassUser() from the entry after it but rather to 'getPassAlgo(). Needless to say this but has kept me from installing Fedora 11 on my 64-bit machine.
trying to install Fedora 10. I'm novice in linux. Nut tryed some distros before, installation/config, fedora 9, Ubuntu 7-8, Suse 10, mandriva. everything was ok. Now i've new rig:

I am trying to install 64bit fedora 11 on my computer but it always tells me that the x window failed so it falls back on text mode. i have an nvidia in my laptop.
Im installing a fresh copy of F12 on a laptop. What I would like to know is if I install the 64bit version will all none 64bit apps install and run.I have normal apps but do needs the lotus notes clientadobe apps, crossover linux, vmware etc.
I have become interested in learning to use Python and I wanted to use the Eclipse IDE. I wish to find the best way to install the Eclipse IDE and add the PyDev plugin. At the Eclipse.org site I have downloaded the eclipse-SDK-3.6.1-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz is this the correct file I will need for my Fedora 12 (64bit) os? If yes, what is the command line I should use to do the install? I am also interested in any books/sites that might help me to get started.
I installed Fedora 13 x86 64 on my Dell system as Installation rimpo it has not installed gcc and related lib files. Any other addon I am trying to add to my system looking for gcc, so I could not install any thing on it. I tried with gcc rpm file but it again looking for several files I find these files on 3rd CD of Fedora 13 But I could not install them. And now my net connection asking for rp-ppoe file which also require gcc etc. So I could not connect net as well.
I have a new work laptop (Dell M6400) that I currently have F10 i386 on. I would like to take advantage to the 64bit processor, but don't know if I need to completely re-install my F10, or if I just have to add the proper 64 bit kernel and applications.
Has someone managed to install Oracle 11.1 on Fedora 12 ?
The following packages failed to install :
I couldn't find any of these packages in the x64_86 or i386 DVD. i686 version of the above packages are already installed, but I still get the error while installation.
I'm currently using FC 9 - 2.6.27 x86_64. (In my Hp - nx6320 laptop with- Intel centrino Duo processor). I have downloaded linux-2.6.30.2. How do I install this with i386/i686 configuration set. All that I want is a 32 bit - linux-2.6.30, because NCTUns 5.0 works only with the 32-bit kernel. I have tried following:
Code: make ARCH=i386 menuconfig After this, I see the architecture set to "X86_32 = Y" in the .config file. But later, after I run
Code: make bzImage The configuration restarts asking to select Y/N for various packages and modules. I have no much idea on what to select and what not to, in order to retain X86_32 set. I end up with the new .config file with contents as below after the make bzImage command.
Code: #X86_32 is not set X86_64 = y Again it is going to be built as a X86_64 bit kernel.
How to install the kernel as 32-bit along with the existing FC-9 64 bit kernel.
New install of Fedora 12 64-bit from DVD on an Optiplex 740 (AMD) with 8GB memory I had to use the mem= option to get the install past the EDD probe, but it seemed to install successfully. Now on boot it goes all the way through the "filling icon" progress meter, then switches to a completely black screen with an X pointer cursor that responds to mouse movement, but nothing else happens. Ctrl-Alt-F{2-5} do not switch to a console login, so the system's inaccessible.
