I am trying to find a best tool to track configuration files changes. I did find some information about osec and mactime, but, it seems, that they are not included in fedora/rpmfusion package databases. is there any tool that can be installed as a package?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running an OpenSuse 11.2 box at home which updates a mysql database 4 times a day then posts 34Mb to my website. It's exactly the same amount of data each time, and my scripts*TRUNCATEs then rewrites the database with the latest data - so the database size remains the same.
There's a problem (I think with the script) however which means that everytime the script runs, approximately 34Mb of space on my hard disk is mysteriously taken up. I'll have to get that script fixed...
I can't, however find the files which are eating up my diskspace at the rate of 140Mb per day. I've done various searches (mainly with Dolphin) including hidden files immediately after running my flaky script and looking for any files created/modified in the previous few minutes when the 34Mb has disappeared.
There are LOTS of files in /proc (which I don't think is actually on my HD right?) and also in /var. There's nothing much in /tmp (on a separate partition) or any log files that I can see. The box has been running this script daily for the last 6 weeks so I'm hoping there's a load of files somewhere I can get rid of, then fix my script.
I have something crashing my system. It might be the random screensaver setting as it was an issue in 11.0 although I have not see it be an issue in 11.2. Previously I though my computer was shutting itself down and because of that I started this thread: opensuse 11.2 shutting down - openSUSE Forums
but now I know the issue is crashing it seems like I should start a separate thread as it's a completely different question. I guess I need to learn how to determine what caused a crash after I reboot a crashed system. So, other than blindly combing logs of which there are dozens, is there a smart methodical way to determine what is crashing a system after a restart? -- when you are not around to see what the cause is as it happens.
I am planning to dual boot Bt4 + SL 6 or Debian 6 ( whatever comes first ) So i am wondering what will be the default disk footprint of Bt4... Never used it installed in HDD only in usb install or live mode...

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhenever I play music tracks in totem Movie Player, the volume drops on each subsequent track - it's VERY annoying. Does anybody know of a permanent fix for this? I've gone through the steps on the pulseaudio thread, and they only fix the problem temporarily. I've even gone so far as uninstalling everything attached to pulseaudio (which was real fun btw since xorg and the video drivers apparently are dependent). After fixing that mess, the audio is STILL screwy. Never had this problem under F10 - do I need to go back?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am starting a small business for computer repair and was wondering if there is any software available for entering and keeping track of service calls. Right now I am using Kmymoney for keeping track of finances and it seems to be working out ok. I also use day planner to keep track of appointments. However, I haven't found anything to keep track of service calls. Currently, I am pretty much trying to adapt spreadsheets as a "get by" solution but its not that pretty.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to track the number of requests that a file gets downloaded and viewed.
What I have is mp4 files on the server and they could either get played in flash player or downloaded via mobile or whatever.
I need to see how many times that files gets downloaded or viewed. Since its in a php page I am able to track the number of views. But I want to able to track the direct downloads.
I was thinking something along the lines of htaccess redirect to php then to file.
But that would mess up the player from playing the file I would think. I am not sure how to make that happen with the htaccess either though.

How do you install RPM files on Fedora? I am running Fedora 11.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install openldap servers using the following command...rpm -i openldap-servers-2.4.22-7.fc14.i686.rpm
However the files /etc/openldap/slapd.conf and /etc/openldap/slapd.conf.bak are not getting installed.
I have run the "rpm -qlp" on the package and it says that it included both those files.
I have tried installing with the --allfile --noscripts --notriggers and --force options to see if there was something strange removing the file during installation, but the file is still not being installed.
Other files in the package appear to be installed without issue.
How can I get RPM to install these two files (the conf file is critical and it's a bit pointless to install the package without it).
I'm running Fedora 11, however when I try to install an rpm.bin or a .bin file, it is not recognized. Java can be downloaded as a rpm.bin or a .bin file and it will not install.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just switched successfully from ubuntu to fedora today. Basically I am really happy with fedora, most problems I had I could solve (with the help of the Internet). However 2 major problem remain:
) I am unable to run .jar files. I've already installed the "Java" package from the repo, but it didn't help. When typing code...
worked without problems, however a quick test (.....) told me that flash isn't working. When I try downloading and installing flash manually from the adobe site I get a message that this package is already installed.
I am unable to mp3 files on fedora 7 . So i have downloaded
vlc-0.9.8a.tar.gz but does no how to install it in my computer .
I was happily running F10 and against my better judgement when it offered to upgrade me to F11 I decided to give it a try. The F11 install hung at 893 of 1626 packages installed. Some SE Linux package was in process of install. On the next boot the installer fails to upgrade for a corrupted root. It says I can backtrack and do a full install, but crashes with a bug when I choose backtrack.
So here is my question - Can i edit the command line and tell the installer to full install rather than upgrade? Or am I stuck with downloading a DVD ISO and doing a full install that way. I've done F8, F9 and F10 so full install from DVD doesn't bother me.
I have same problem with *.bin files. When I try to install software from *.bin file I see error:

When I install wine the add/remove program wants to install both 86_64 and i686 files. I have the x86_64 version of Fedora 14. I am having problems with counterstrike and have installed it using Wine, have noted problems when both types of files are installed.
I would like to have Fedora set up just right but as with all Linux distros, am having trouble keeping my head above water with fc14. I have success up to a point and then want to go back to Windows for its simplicity. Just this wine problem
