I'm porting C++ application from ARM to MIPS platform. It works now, but I see some strange timing problems. I've seen now that My app process is called multiply time. Here is "top" output:

I don't see something like this when I compile it for x86, nor ARM.On MIPS I use uClibc instead of glibc.
I recently switched to using xfce. Since then, every time i'm watching a video the screensaver turns on after 10 minutes. Is it possible to disable this behavior when playing a video, but still have the screensaverctivate when i'm not doing anything?I'm starting to get really annoyed, as i don't have a tv, i use my pc for everything.I don't know if it matters, but i'm using mplayer

Right now, when I kill it (using built-in kill; /bin/kill; pkill) it restarts. I don't want that. Xfce seems to no longer have the option to choose if I want a desktop or not.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Xfce 4.6.1 and xfdesktop 4.6.1.1 (or so aptitude said). When I use 'None' image option - just colour - I get the colour I ask for but if I change that to either 'Single image' or 'Image list' then both the image and the background colour are made greyscale.
I have tried looking through all the options I could find to do with Xfce and searching Google but I don't know how to phrase it as my searches tend to bring up black and white wallpapers.
Running X as a different user on the same computer does not cause the same problem which makes me think it might be cause by a user setting though I spent a long time with a black and white wallpaper and do not know when the issue first arose.
My last setup (years ago) ran fluxbox so because it was familiar I installed it as a secondary to xfce right off the bat. I download a lot of different stuff because I like to try out all the apps I can find but somewhere I broke something. I can still run fluxbox fine, but nither the Xubuntu nor Xfce sessions will run now. Last thing I remember changing was pulse audio(removed it for an experiment I was trying with jack audio), not sure if it is connected but when I try to login to xfce the screen goes black, flickers a few times then it brings me back to the login screen.
I tried failsafe but everytime I do my monitor gives me a "frequency out of range" error. I tried purging and reinstalling xubuntu desktop and xfce settings but I am thinking its my xorg config. My laptop is a Toshiba satellite M305D-s4830 with ATI Radeon 3100 mobile graphics card and I am running Xubuntu 10.10. Unfortunately I also broke the screen, so right now I am stuck with an external monitor till I get a new one.

Like for instance, if I have Ubuntu Lucid Lynx installed with XFCE, and it has an applications made for XFCE. will the applications also work on say some other distro like, Wolvix, that is an XFCE-based distro~????
What I am trying to say is: Do applications that are made for XFCE, work on ANY distro that has XFCE installed?
I have bumped into a rather bizarre problem on a redhat system at work:I have mapped 10 LUNS to a server.The server has 2 HBAs, but the luns were mapped only to 1 HBA,and only one HBA is connected with a fibre cable.Every lun has only 1 path,the storage array management software (hitachi storage)confirms this.However, instead of 10 luns, I am seeing 40 luns!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've never had this happen to me before on any Linux boxes and I'm totally stumped: at random times, seemingly not at all to do with the applications open or number of windows...X crashes. This happened once every 2 weeks or so a couple of months ago...now it seems to happen 2-3 times every 24 hours.
I do not remember installing nvidia drivers. But I may have. How can I check this?
And more importantly, what things can I do to get to the bottom of why this keeps happening? It's just X crashing -- the system is not bricked. I can ssh in from another machine. But X is locked up so tightly even the mouse doesn't move.
I have had lots of problems with dual boot. Hardly never making success with first boot. I have to try 3,4,5 even 6 times until reach the X. Some kernels make it better (hardly never succesful boot with first try). This 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.i686.PAE seems to be one of the worst.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Fedora12 x86 64. On booting more often than not it hangs just before completing the login screen.I will try some of the options in the wiki. In the mean time has anyone else experienced this and resolved it.The odd thing is although the keyboard is not on, (num lock light goes out as boot starts and only comes back on if it has fully booted), the mouse will move around the screen but the click has no effect.Note the same behaviour was shown on the x86 64 live cd which I needed to install to enable me to create a bootable usb stick from the x86 64 DVD.

Even when I connect to my server over LAN, Firefox times out occasionally while connecting. I can't figure out what is causing this. The error_log isn't showing anything. I even cleaned the error_log file, so that if something happened, it'd be a little easier to spot. But I'm still getting time outs, and nothing in the error_log.

It's the default Fedora configuration, I've only changed the ServerName if I remember correctly. it's not the Timeout setting, because on LAN it should never time out.
I've installed F12, updated to today. I've set it to boot to runlevel 3. That works. If I run startx, X starts - I see the mouse cursor and the blue/green background. But no panels. No desktop icons.
I tried switchdesk kde, then startx. Same thing. Except kde is running because if I right-click on the desktop, I get a kde dialog that allows me to start an app.
Tried switchdesk gnome. Same thing. Rebooted, same thing.
How can I turn off the beep that happens when I backspace too many times in the terminal or other applications?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded the DVD version of Fedora 12 with a torrent so it shouldn't be corruped - checked the hash anyway and it wasn't - and I burnt it at a low speed and has my burning program verify that it did indeed burn what it was supposed to. I tested the disc for errors and every time it shows up that around the 70% mark that the DVD has an error.

I also have Ubuntu Natty installed and use it primarily but I wanted to reach out and try new distros.I've wanted to try Fedora and finally got enough nerve to try. Installing it crashed for no apparent reason several times.ehow it installed and booted right to Fedora.However, when finally figuring out how to run the updates, I began to have the same problem.(Someone elsewhere suggested trying to update through command line--which I did finally though I had a few crashes doing this).
Now I am logging in and then it will just inadvertently crash. I could be in firefox, or using terminal, etc. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to why this is happening and I feel frustrated. I really want to test out Fedora (it looks so nice!) but can't manage to stay afloat more than a few minutes. I might also mention that this does not happen in Ubuntu at all so I can't account for the issues. I have much to learn but I feel a bit intimidated by Fedora because it's so new to me.

Where can I put a script so that it'll be run whenever gnome starts but not kde? I tried creating a file called .gnomerc in my home directory but that didn't work. I'd prefer to be able to do it without the "Startup Application" interface.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm not even sure where to start trouble shooting this. All I can tell you is that ksoftirqd starts using 100% cpu. It either happens immediately after a resume (about a 50 % chance), or at some random interval (anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 hours after a fresh boot).

I get the newest fedora 13 dvd install & the live cd. Put on the disk and try to install. But the installer hangs on random times, so i cant install the system. Sometimes hangs on the anaconda start, others in the partition tables, others in the language section.
i try to run the live cd and install from there. Ok the first time the cd boot very nice . But when i try to install , the pc hangs again. Other times the boot from live even finish, when the last percents r coming, hangs again.
I all hangs, the dvd drive stop's and never return. So the Fan of cpu start to run very quickly and stay there forever until my patience permits.
So i use the ubuntu installer ( almost 4 years with u fedora, and need ubuntu installer!?shame on u) and search some information about the case. Yes, the last ubuntu boot,install, and run out of the box very quickly!
I see others with Dell & others brands still have problems with hangs and freezing , in boot and installs, so the first thing i search was the kernel parameters and try to use some flags.
I think the source of this kind of problem is the acpi . When i check the flag pci=noacpi or acpi=off , i have see that on the pre-anaconda start, when u choose the english language in text mode, clicking next the installer cant anymore find the media DVD, and the hard disk with the partition table. Sometimes the installer brings me the option to search in the ubuntu partitions, sometimes no.
How to debug and search the source of the problem? Any way? code...
Is there an easy way to determine the concise history of all the times I've run yum to install packages on my machine? I'm migrating to FC15 and I'd like to duplicate the old machine as much as possible on the new machine, and therefore, I'd like to know what I installed on it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSometime after I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 I've been having trouble with my wireless network connection.It will usually log on to the network, then disconnect a shortly after. Then try to connect again, usually successfully, then it cuts off again. Then connects again, then disconnects. FWIW, ubuntu 9.10 works on a different machine pretty consistently, so I don't think its a problem with the router.
View 2 Replies View RelatedBrand new clean install of F12. On boot the network starts and grabs an IP from my DHCP server and will return pings, however, as soon as the logon window starts "all" network activety is stopped.
I have tried deactivating the NIC, then enabling again, (doesn't get an ip at this point), turning off the firewall, managing the network with & without network manager enabled, selinux off...all makes no difference.
My adsl device currently used as Auto eth0 only works when i plug in to the computer. The device doesn't starts automatically as it does in Windows. How can solve this ? Each time I try to connect internet after restarting , I should manually plug the cable to the port.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFinally solved a problem of wireless not working on my laptop. Now I have a problem where Firefox (3.6.4) starts up in off-line mode on each instance. I have to go to files menu and uncheck the work offline button before trying to go to any site. When I close firefox and later open it again, the work offline button is still checked.
Why is the unchecking of work offline saved between instances? Other settings and preferences are saved correctly. I don't have this problem in openSUSE 11.2 & 11.3 (same version of FF).
