View 2 RepliesI have Fed 12, running on kernel 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 I have newer kernels installed, but they will not boot into X.
The updater installed the kernel 2.6.32.21-166.fc12.i686. I can boot into runlevel 3. But if I then give the command startx, I almost get an x-window, I can see the top and bottom, ermm, wadjecallems, beams, but the screen is blank, and then the machine freezes. I can only switch off.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 CLI with Openbox as the WM on my Dell laptop. I installed gnome-power-manager because I like to suspend my laptop when the lid is closed. When the close the lid and reopen it, the screen is black and the computer never suspends. This happens regardless of whether or not gnome-power-manger is running is the background.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on a laptop. The laptop has an external 19" screen connected to it through the VGA port. I am not using the laptop screen (because it is small and flickers constantly) but only the external screen. When I shut the laptop lid the external screen blanks. There is no option in the power management dialog and the option "Activate screensaver when idle..." in the screensaver dialog is unchecked (which I would like to re-enable to blank screen when idle for x minutes). How can I get Ubuntu to leave my external screen on when the laptop lid is closed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere is an installation problem when installing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using Wubi on my IBM Thinkpad R50e. My operating system is Windows XP Professional. After Wubi installed the Ubuntu Installation Files on my hard drive, I restarted my computer. After restarting, I selected Ubuntu on the selection of operating systems.
First, I saw the introductory logo of Ubuntu (when the ubuntu loads its files). After that, instead I will saw the installation progress or the installation of language packs, only Black Screen will appear on my Laptop screen. I have waited for an hour, but nothing happens. It did not pushed through with the installation.
I just installed Linux 5.5 on a Toshiba laptopn (i3, 64 bit). Centos runs until it reaches a very dark screen. On a few occasions, I am able to see something but the screen is very dark.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Debian 8.3, and I'm running Gnome 3.14.1.I have an external monitor plugged in with HDMI, and while Linux is loading both screens are on duplicate. Once the GUI kicks in, only the external screen works, so I have to enter my password blindly. Then, I open a terminal and run
Code: Select allsudo echo 950 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
and the laptop screen turns back on.
I'm wondering: Is there a way to streamline this so that it happens on boot, but after GNOME loads?Or: Is there a better method to solve this?
My laptop: MSI AMD Athlon 64x2 Nvidia GeForce GO 6100.
I've done a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and I end-up with a blank screen. I've also tried a fresh install of Xubuntu 10.04 and Kubuntu 10.04 and I get the same blank screen.
Ubuntu 9.10 was working perfectly though. So what do you think happened?
I installed the Ubuntu 10.04 livecd on my desktop and it works perfectly so I think it is not a burning problem.
I'd like your input on this. A toshiba laptop screen goes blank after few seconds(from turning on).
At first i thought it was fan that was out and once it got hot enough it cut the laptop off like my old Acer did.
But after close examination i noticed that it continues working. HD still spining and fan blows..
Example: Turn on>Hit F2 to go in to Bios> Bios screen appears>Before i have a chance to do anything it geos blank but continues working> I hit Cntrl ALt Del> it resets and screen comes right back up>second later it goes blank again.
ALSO the toshiba logo and whole screen seems to have a red tint to it.
I also get a media test error but that is likely from hard drive not being there during some of the tests.
DO you think it can be an LCD Backlight issue? or possibly video card?
After I install SUSE I reboot and click on Desktop it then goes to a loading screen. After that it scrolls a lot of info then the screen goes blank. I have no idea why and I have tried it on 3 different computers with the same problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using a dell latitude d630 with an nvidia quadro 135M card. I'm able to suspend without any problems while running the X server. If I try to suspend on console without the X server running, the laptop wakes up to a blank screen. The screen remains blank and my only resort is to type sudo halt (with the screen off).I'm using the proprietary nvidia driver with the nvidia-kernel package on testing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having the same problem, as soon as X tries to load my screen just goes blank. I have an ATI Radeon 9550. At first I tried switching between VGA and DVI as well but upon ruling that out, I switch to my on-board video card and that is working thus far, but I'm trying very hard to figure out a way to be able to switch back. Anyways I'll check back in later on if I have any new information I will post.

I suspect that it may have to do with my ati radeon 9800 graphics card. give me some boot options or some such thing so that I could install fedora on my computer. Also some other specs

Screen is blanking out after x minutes. Don't know how to set it to not do that.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been having an issue with my screen blanking out after a few minutes (number of minutes unknown), since I reinstalled Fedora 12 (KDE) a couple of weeks ago. I have tried, yes, a lot of things to try to set it so that it doesn't blank out, to no avail. I have spent a lot of time on the Fedora forum seeking resolution, with a variety of suggestions, all to no avail. I went into System Settings > Power Control, and fooled with things around there and they didn't work. I tried xset and dpms and shutting them off. Still no cigar.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was able to get Fedora 10 to run on VirtualBox. Since the system wouldn't let me set the resolution to anything bigger than 800 x 600, I decided to get the nVidia driver (I'm running the nVidia 8400m G). I did it through this guy's tutorial: [URL]... After rebooting, I see the loading bars and everything, but I get a blank screen with a cursor. After pressing ctrl+alt+F3, I was able to log in to the root and execute the "akmod builds the required kmod on bootup" under the "For GeForce 8 series" [URL]... After a reboot, I still get the same thing. Will I have to reinstall Fedora 10 and just not update the nVidia graphics drivers? I have a 20" monitor that has a resolution of 1600 x 1050 and I would really like to take advantage of that.

I have an ATI Radeon 3xxx series card and I have recently installed mesa-dri-drivers.x86_64. I guess the blank screen problem is because xorg for fedora 12 doesn't support these drivers.
I want to remove this package using yum, but when I try to do it using "yum remove" it shows 95 packages that would be uninstalled with it. I don't want to remove those packages as it has some that I use like Konversation.
how do I remove mesa-dri-drivers and what were the drivers that were being used before I installed mesa.
i installed fedora 12 on my pc and I also installed the ati drivers from atiand i rebooted and booted back in fedora all i get is a blank screen that does nothing

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to upgrade Fedora 13 to Fedora 14 using preupgrade. The upgrade seem to go OK, I didn't see any errors. But when it did the final reboot all I get is a blank screen. I rebooted in single user mode and saw that /etc/rc5.d/S99local -> ../rc.local is the last script executed. I edited rc.local and added 'echo "got here"' at the end and rebooted. It did print "got here" so I know all scripts were executed for init 5, it didn't get hung anywhere along the bootup. Why I'm not getting the login screen?

If I login to the fedora directly then every thing works fine. but if I login to Window 7 and again try to re-login into fedora 12 after shutting down the winows 7 then the booting screen will become black (almost invisible) even though I can be able to login and can go to the desktop (which is also very least visible) if i click on suspend and then click on the power button then the screen will become properly visible.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i use my computer (whether it's going online, typing, playing a flash game, or coding) I get these "Black Flashes" that are becoming longer and more frequent. A "Black Flash" is when my computer screen turns blank (but you can still see the backlight) and i have to press the NUMpad ENTER button, shake my mouse furiously, or click my mouse, which sometimes causes undesired actions, but gets me my screen back. sometimes the Black Flashes last a milisecond or 5 seconds or i have to hold the power button and restart because it won't come back on.

I've just got a second-hand computer at a bargain price and I would love to install Fedora 10. I have some previous knowledge on Ubuntu, so I'm not completely new to Linux, but I'm pretty amateur still. Anyway, I have some trouble installing either Fedora or Ubuntu to this machine right now. It has an AMD Sempron 3800+ (2,2 GHz) & an ATI Mobility Radeon X1250. I have the usual "Automatic boot" screen.
Then everything seems to load fine, besides I have an apciphp error. After this single line of error, I have the usual loading bar; and then a blank screen - nothing seems to happen. I saw there were some issues installing Linux on this model - so if you can help me solve this, I'm sure other people will benefit as well!
I install the fc11 from Fedora-11-i386-DVD.iso. The software update has just updated my fc11 kernel from 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686.PAE to 2.6.29.6-217.2.7.fc11.i686.PAE. If I boot using the new kernel, The screen resolution is not correct (everything gets bigger) and the screen goes into blank white screen suddenly after log in.
I have a geforce 8600gt card and installed its driver (for pae kernel) as suggested on this link: [URL]Everything goes well untill I update the kernel.

I have a fresh install of Fedora 11. All is good except the VNC client. When connected using the client all is fussy or blurred out. The Fedora computer is next to my computer and I can see the movement of the mouse on its screen, but cannot see on VNC viewer. I have tried this from several different computers Windows XP and Windows 2003 and the result is the same.
