Running FC11 64 bit and Firefox 3.5.5. Under Edit->Preferences->Security, I have checked the box "Remember passwords for sites". But Firefox doesn't remember the passwords. It does remember the usernames. Is there something else that I must do to get it remember passwords?

I'm having some problems of security in my Fedora 12... excess of security. It keeps me asking mi password everytime I want to perform an operation, and in some cases I'm pretty sure that this hampers me to work with some files.
Everytime I boot it, it asks about the password for the wireless network, and when I fill that out, another window pops up saying "Enter password for default keyring to unlock" (I press the "deny button" always for this one as it doesn't accept my user password.
I'm a newbie in linux and in programming, so I spend the days facing problem after problem and it's starting to drive me crazy. I'm not the root of the computer, but just a superuser (I hope that's not the problem)
Isn't it possible just to put my password when I start and then work without writing it anytime?

Is there a way to get F10 (Gnome) to remember where my screen positions are? I keep having to move them over and over anytime I open a new application and tell it where I want it.

How do I get Nautilus to "remember it's window size? It seems that with F12 when I open a nautilus window it starts at some preset default size, and even though I change it and then close it. It returns to the default size when I open it again.

I need to set the default input device to be the microphone on my webcam for when I skype, but it seems to keep resetting itself, so I keep going in and changing it.
I am right clicking the volume icon and going into Sound Prefs -> Input, and selecting the camera.
How do I stop it from forgetting this and resetting it?

yesterday I upgraded my Fedora installation via preupgrade from 11 to 12.Now there are some icons missing! If I go to the 'System' menu in the panel, there are no icons at all.If then I select the 'Settings' submenu, all of its icons are visible.I figured out that the package redhat-menus and fedora-icon-theme make up the representation of this icons and reinstalled them. Then I additionally executed 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf.loaders' (I read this somewhere in the forum).
But nothing happend so far?!
I made further efforts trying to find out the icon of the System Configuration Menu (Syst -> Administration). The file '/usr/share/desktop-directories/SystemConfig.directory' contains the icon that should be displayed for the System->Administration menu. This file contains the line: Icon=preferences-system Good so far.I thought that selecting the gnome icon theme would fix this problem, but this also didn't help! Now I'm at the end of my knowledge (or I don't want to rename single icons to match the names required)...

I'm running Evolution 2.30.3 on fc13.x64 and I've been getting a funny problem for a while, that now really annoys me:
even if the settings for my hotmail account are correct, Evolution will ask for the password every time I log in. Also, since I keep it open, after a while (~30 minutes) it "forgets" somehow the password and asks for the password again. This time, anyway, it won't work and I have to reset Evolution again.
Bonus question: even if hotmail is configured correctly for receiving and sending (smtp.live.com etc.), it won't send email, but will remain stuck on "sending".

I ran openSUSE way back since version 7.3, before that I was on Redhat 6 and briefly at 5 before that. I know my way around Linux pretty well but two problems with Fedora are bothering me right now. I'll begin a separate thread for each one to keep things clear. The first problem is with sound. I remember having problems with the Intel ICH7 chipset and pulseaudio on openSUSE, but the problem I have with Fedora is different. Sound works, but each time after rebooting, I have to open alsamixer to turn the master volume up from zero. Being an openSUSE user, I am comfortable with KDE, so I am running KDE 4.6.1 as my DE.Two sound devices have been detected, one is the Intel soundcard, which is recognized as snd_hda_intel. The primary sound device, according to alsa, is my Logitech UVC cam.

I created a new partition in Windows Vista which, after rebooting, screwed up Grub. I believe that I need to reinstall Grub and everything should be fine, and I remember reading the command to do this on this forum, but I can't find it. When I boot, I now get a black screen with white letters instead of the Grub boot menu. It says something about "Minimal Grub" at the top and gives me a prompt that looks like this.
grub>
I can boot the live CD and I have internet access with it, but I can not remember the terminal command to repair Grub. Can someone tell me this command?

Upgraded to Fedora 11 and my display aspect ratio is now broken. I have a 23" Acer screen, but in Gnome its auto detecting as a 20" Acer display and the aspect ratio is wrong and the display grainy. I read the FAQs and am trying out some suggestions. Created an xorg.conf file in the correct place, contains the correct monitor settings but my display is still broken. Q. How do I force the kernel to read the xorg.conf file ?(PS: I'm kind of a newbie, have only come back to linux after a few years of using Windows)

I did the upgrade, over the internet, using the "preupgrade" command. All the files downloaded and I rebooted and it is all apparently working fine. When I do a uname -a command I get this response:Linux Fedora11 2.6.31.6-162.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Fri Dec 4 00:43:59 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux.When I open a terminal window it says username@Fedora11:~When I run "rpm -qa" it show my installed packages all end with fc12, so I am sure I am on Fedora 12.When I used to run Ubuntu, I would just open the file /etc/lsb-release and it would show me what version I was running. What file holds that information in Fedora 12 ?

I did have F11 on my laptop all running smoothly and everything which is good. But now I've updated from F11 using the preupgrade tool which for what I could see everything downloaded and installed ok, that was until the reboot after the install had completed after seemingly loading F12 it left me with a black screen with a blinking cursor so after a few more reboots with the same out come I decided to see what the loading was stopping at and this is what it came up with
Code:
Welcome to Fedora
Press 'I' to enter interactive startup.
Starting udev: [ OK ]
Setting Hostname Fireline.Yuki: [ OK ]
mdadm: No arrays found in config or automatically
[code]....
And it stops loading after "Starting atd: [ OK ]" I am going to try a CD install either tomorrow or the day after then I'll go back to F11 depending if it works or not.

I've just upgraded my from F11 to F12 via software update and found F12 extremely slow to the extent that only the mosue cursor moves, the rest does not - not even opening folders or starting application.
My specs:
Core2Duo
1GB RAM
160GB HDD
It seems that
npviewer.bin is taking up up to 50% of CPU. Xorg takes 20%..

"Upgraded" from FC5 32 bit to Fedora 10 64 bit using Fedora Live KDE disk, and unchecking the boxes to format drives with my personal data. In the install it recognized these as SW raid devices. One is raid 1, the other raid 5.
Now, it still recognizes the raid devices, and mdstat claims they are working fine, but I cannot mount them (mount says must specify a FS type, but that doesn't work either).

Recently upgraded to fc11. Have nvidia working ok. Using kernel 2.6.30.9-90.fc11.i586 (not the latest). When booting up I get to gui login and see the background change. It takes 20 seconds or more before I see the login dialog box. After selecting the user it takes another 20 seconds before I see the box change to enter the password. This only happens at boot. If I logout and log back in everything is fine.

I had used noapic and acpi=off before, but does not help now. Intel graphics, at first a flash about address collision.

I run my linux server on the Fedora 11 x86_64 flavour of linux. It did have 1GB of DDR SDRAM PC2700 (Crucial) in the first DIMM slot. It worked fine, however i felt the need to add more RAM to the server. So I purchased 2Gb from Crucial 2 * 1Gb memory stick of DDR SDRAM PC2700 333 CL2.5. However when these are used the machine goes through grub begins booting and then hangs. Sometimes it goes through to the login screen where it hangs, othertimes it hangs after logging in. I have performed a memory test and the results come back fine. However if I just use a single stick of memory the server boots fine (Either stick of memory works). The Machhine is dual boot and my XP professional partition always boots fine

My network printer HP Color LaserJet 2605dn works fine with Ubuntu, Windows XP, Fedora 9 ... but not with Fedora 14 (2.6.35.12-90.fc14.x86_64). All printouts look like this:
fedora_14_hp_2605dn_printout.jpg
The list of HP printer models on Fedora 9 has "Color LaserJet 2605", and it workes fine.
However on Fedora 14 the model is no longer in the list. I tried "Color LaserJet" and "Color LaserJet 2500" but the printout results were always corrupt.

After upgrading to the latest Wine, I find one of my most prized Win apps no longer works properly (no longer detects sound hardware). Seeing as the previous version (1.2.0-2) of Wine worked fine, I have located its (16) rpm's in the Yum cache, but irrespective of which one I double-click to install, it fails, complaining one of the other packages isn't already installed. Shouldn't the installation-manager automatically detect that these all of these dependent-on-each-other files are present? The 'newest' previous version in the repository is 1.1.38 - really old in other words - and my app works with it but I'd really like to install the newer version in the Yum cache.

I am running fedora 14 32 bit. I have upgraded from fedora 12 through 13 to 14 using the preupgrade method. I just ran a yum check which threw the following errors.

Odd that system-config-display is still a fc12 version and it seems it didn't get upgraded. I have no system issues.

I upgraded my Fedora Core distribution from 12 to 14. Everything worked fine, except for SQUID which refused to upgrade. I then went to rescue and installed SQUID using yum and then restarted the upgrade. It did finally upgrade the system and then asked for a reboot. Well, when I selected the new kernel option in the GRUB options, since I also have Winduhs, it gave a kernel panic. I tried booting into the older kernel and it worked. Now I see the users that are there in the system in the Graphical GUI login greeter screen. But none of the users get authenticated. I used the rescue option and removed graphical login and changed boot level to 3.
I also enabled the root user. In the rescue mode, if I do a startx, everything works fine. I logged off rebooted the system. When I login, I see the version is shown as Fedora Core 14, but the kernel was still the older one with Core 12. I again went to rescue and checked out GRUB and saw that it had no initrd for the new kernel. I created a initrd image with the mkinitrd command and then added it to grub. I again rebooted. This time it shows the correct kernel, but still the system does not allow any of the users to login. All the Logins fail.......

I upgraded from FC10 to FC11 yesterday.I had no problems using FC11 after I looked into the bootloader (not intuitive - Ha!).Tried to boot up this morning; and things seemed to work well until I tried to call up Firefox (added a few themes yesterday). The window pops open; but the computer freezes on the spot with an alarm (generic "beep", w/o the finishing "p").Tried it with Epiphany; and I get the same results with the exception of actually getting to the Home Page.Yum works for the most part - I reinstalled Firefox (no effect); but couldn't reinstall epiphany (keeps saying "there is no such package - did you mean 'epiphany'". No typos on my part - go figure). Doing Software/Package Updates (via System Menu) freezes the box as well.Did it with the system monitor on. It doesn't appear to be related to CPU Usage.
Had a FC10 liveUSB and used it for awhile (e.g. to check out the forums). After giving my ISP some grief about downloading speed, immediately received a note from their Abuse Department, saying that my machine had been infected with a virus and had been sending spam emails (post upgrade to FC11).

I'm running a Fedora 10 box behind a Comcast cable modem that provides squid and mail services to 15 XP and Vista workstations. I upgraded the ethernet cards on our Fedora box to support our new 1 gigabyte network. I kept the same device configuration eth0 and eth2 by updating the /etc/udev/net persistent file and changing the ethernet hardware address in the respective ifcfg-eht files in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. The box booted to the new cards, the route and ifgonfig shows the new cards and their hardware addresses, the configuration looks as how the old cards looked (eth0 and eth2 respectfully). I was able to browse the local network and have access to the internet as before from inside the network . However I cannot get access to our web server that serves our web host and our VPN services from ouside our network. I tried stopping the firewall and still could nor connect from outside the network.Could my old ethernet hardware address be hard coded somewherel?
