Fedora :: Error Getting The Video Information"
Nov 20, 2009
I'm having trouble using ninjavideo.net with fedora firefox. I installed JAVA and Flash, but everytime i try to load a video it says "There was an error getting the video information." Does anyone have any idea what's causing this, and more importantly how to fix it?

I got this error message when installing Fedora 11 by an installlation DVD (download from [URL]) Unable to read group information from repositories. This is a problem with the generation of your install tree. This error message appeared after the step that the installer asked me to choose where to install boot loader and configure the GRUB boot menu. I am trying to dual boot Vista and F10 and I have 2 different 400GB hard drives to do it on. On the first HD, I have Vista installed but when I try to install F10 on the second, I get this error message:
Quote: Error: Unable to read group information from repositories. this is a problem with the generation of your install tree. I've looked it up and found some forums but none answer how to "fix" it (if it is indeed something that you fix).

I have a problem with updating files in the update manager. Each time i do an update a red exclamation mark shows up eith the following error message : The update information is outdated. This may be caused by network problems or by a repository that is no longer available. Please update manually by clicking on this icon ant then selecting "check for updates"and check if some of the listed repositories fail. I tried doing this manually but nothing happens. I get a message saying that my system is up to date, and just underneath that it says "the package information was last updated 17 days ago".

sudo apt-get update
I get the following:

I must say, the RPMfusion version of the Nvdia driver package work better with FC10 than they did under FC9 for me, which is to say: they work at all. Still get corrupted output after a few hours of work, but I imagine that's just the underlying weakness of the Nvidia driver bubbling up. Either way, now I have other problems:
First off, the Intel driver for my onboard video setup has stopped working entirely. The attempt to bring up X on the Intel setup gets me to the KDE login screen and locks the machine up hard (poweroff required). A look at the xorg.0.log shows that the server seems to be stuck in a loop trying to determine the valid video properties for the session.
Here's my xorg.conf, BTW. I have it setup to perform different configurations depending on which DefaultServerLayout line gets uncommented (lines 4 - 6). If anybody has a better way of doing this, I'm all ears. While we're on my xorg.conf, pleas view lines 64-67 and/or 75-77. This is my quickie way of changing drivers (again, all ears) which brings us to the next problem, neither the nv or nouveau drivers work with my system. Interestingly enough, both drivers tend to fail in the same relative spot in the process, I think. Please refer to line 207 of this xorg.0.log with the nv driver or line 140 of this xorg.0.log from the nouveau setup. Either way, both sessions die with the same message: (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. Fatal server error: no screens found Gotta go, x session getting corrupt,,,

I created a USB Live disk and installed Fedora 12 to my Asus EEE 1005HA (12 inch screen). The machine boots fine, but Hardware Graphics acceleration is not working correctly. If I stop X11, and type "Xorg -configure", the Xorg utility recieves a segmentation fault and exits, and the resulting xorg.conf file does not work correctly. The error is "(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory". All the correct packages are installed, and there is no logical reason why it is failing. The rest of the hardware on the EEE works fine.

I am running 11.04 on an HP tx2 laptop. I have been able to perform updates until the last one. Then I get the following message when I try to use update manager or terminal to get updates or just to generally install a new program. Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, Eroblem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.egr.msu.edu_pub_ubuntu_archive_dists_natty-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
I performed the update from 10.10 online so I don't have the cd nor will I be able to download it. Not enough time to do so.

I am having a very strange problem, up until a few days ago I have been able to copy using the gnome desktop with no problem. However I now keep on getting this error pop up window that says "Error while copying" There was an error getting information about "". When I click on the show more details buttons, nothing is there. At first I kept canceling the error message and copied the file with command line, however now I see that if I hit the the skip button on the gnome error message it goes away and it copies the file to its intended destination. I'm not sure where to even beging looking.
