I am using fedora14 and evolution 2.32.2 email client. I cannot search all of my local email folders anymore. I can search folders individually, but when I try to search them all I get no results. Any ideas?
View 1 RepliesI have a few thousand .doc and .odt files (Word & OpenOffice documents) in a folder. Under 9.04, I was able to run a query search for keywords by using; Places - search for files - contains the text. It would find files with the text that I requested every time.
Now that I have 9.10, that search function does not work any more.
It would appear that the search (find) function has been removed from Konqueror in KDE 4.6. Is that the case? By "search" I mean the ability to search your hard drive, not a web page or document.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to write email, and enter the first few letters of the recipient in the "to:" box, it sometimes but not always autocompletes. i.e., let's say my contact's name is Frederick, his address is e.g. robertsharry@snotmail.com. I enter Fred or fred or fre, a couple of addresses come in to the autocomplete drop-down, but not his. After searching all over over to find his address by other means, I start to write it in manually only to find that he IS in my address book (and also in recent addresses), listed under Freddie. I know that the word Freddie is not in his actual address, but what is the point of having a search function if you have to remember the address yourself? In other words surely the drop down search should show display names (as well as any other fields)?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'd just like to know if there's a way to get Thunderbird to be setup, or have Ubuntu be setup (whichever is more feasible) so that the little white envelope on the task bar turns green when I get a new message in one of the mail accounts I setup in Thunderbird. I'd also like to know how to get it to play a sound when I receive a new email. I already setup Thunderbird as my default mail client. I also already setup the sound to be played in Thunderbird when I receive an email as "the default sound for new mail".
Lastly, this may be pushing my luck, but, it would be great if thunderbird's calendar could function as my systems default calendar and work with all the features, such as appointment reminders.I'd prefer not to have to install mail-notification, but I'll do it as a last resort. It makes my single panel bar cluttered and takes up additional resources on my rapidly aging system.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to create something that is pretty standard in the computer world: a search folder that shows me all the unread email in both local and remote (IMAP: Ubuntu/Postfix/Dovecot) folders.

Viewing the folder was a bit of a nightmare.
If I clicked on any email that was unread, the email would appear for a moment, it's status would then change to 'read', it would then vanish, the next unread email would come up and then vanish. All unread email would then be flipped through until there was none in the search folder.I now have to go through all of my folders to make sure I haven't missed any important emails.Is there a way to create a rational search folder for unread mail given this setup?
I have a Dell Latitude D530 Laptop (500 GB HDD). Installed Windows XP and then Ubuntu 10.10 to do dual boot. everything works fine in Windows XP.In Ubuntu 10.10 I had issues connecting to Internet(Through Wirelss), I was able to rectify this issue by dsiable ipv6 from firefox about:config and setting true to network.dns.disableIPv6. After this I was able to connect to internet and browse websites from Firefox.But I am having Issues with Evolution Mail(Connection Timed Out) and Google Talk Client(Connection Timed Out).Empathy Internet Messaging gets connected fine.I was wondering if I will have to disable IPv6 System wide and hence I added the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf

I got a new laptop Toshiba L526. Now I want to make it's Function keys work. I have read many threads, and found it is better using acpi.
But when I try
modprobe toshiba_acpi
it got a error :

Computer is an ACER Power F6, BIOS AMI F6, XPPro installed, C only 80 Gygabites, 2 Gyg RAM, 3000MHZ Pentium4.today I installed 10.0.4 from Canonical 32 bit, all was ok,I followed the suggested dual boot partition and proceedings,which gave XP 44 Gyga and Ubuntu 37 Gyga ,successfully finished install,rebooted and began updating and customizing with great zest as I was really happy about this new version. then I decided to make a break of an hour and thought : 'let's try now the suspend function as i read about it not working properly sometimes'.....so an hour later i tried to revive from suspension,but the pc remains utterly insensitive and black.Tried Del to get into BIOS,F12 to get to boot config,BART PE disk i made for an XP machine in the past, and tried to boot again from the live Ubuntu Cd .....all in vain.I suspect it might be the fact the BIOS was set by me for

as this machine I inherited since a few days dates back to 2006 and has no burner only CD-DVD reader and Floppy is disabled in BIOS.After Ubuntu install the machine stopped for a long time on a black screen with white reading about errors during install,then I reset it and it seemed like a good install anyway.Apart from checking if the HD is still ok,what can I do or try in such a situation?
I installed the Autocomplete plugin http:[url].... for gedit and it works great. But when I ran it as root "sudo gedit ...", Autocomplete is not on the list of plugin and the auto complete function is not working.Is it possible to make the plugin available to all users?

Somehow I was able to see Opera, and could use the Search bar/box but I can't use it the same way for Firefox in Linux. Firefox is fine in Windows, but not in Linux, so I decided to delete it and install it again. But it doesn't work.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 9.10. All of a sudden several of my function keys stopped working and several keyboard shortcuts that I had setup involving function keys stopped working as well.
For example, when I go to preferences->keyboard shortcuts and try to set "Toggle fullscreen mode" to Alt+F11, the text "XF86AudioRaiseVolume" appears where it should just say "Alt+F11". Pressing Alt+F11 does nothing.
All of my function keys somehow got mapped to XF86AudioBlahBlah and no longer work. How do I undo this? I recently installed ffmpeg and gtk-recordmydesktop but I don't think I installed anything else.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.4. I've played with different versions of Picasa, installing the Linux version via Ubuntu Software Center and also using Wine. At a certain point I had several versions of the application installed and things were getting. When I search for Picasa in the Unity application search field (clicking the button with the dot in the centre at the top left of my screen) I got several results for Picasa, some of which when clicked would start Picasa and some which wouldn't. When I remove all versions of Picasa both from Wine and native I still get some results for Picasa which don't start Picasa when clicked.

View 3 Replies View RelatedTo make more room on the drive, I decided to remove evolution, which I don't use.I searched for Evolution in Synaptic and marked each installed part for "removal" (but not "complete removal") in.With some of the marks, I got a dialog box stating that certain other files needed to be marked as well and offering the option of marking them.I did so.I then ran Synaptic.When I rebooted my PC, it won't boot into Ubuntu (9.10, at the moment),It goes through into the initial menu (giving the login options for each of the three users) but, when I select me and type in my password, instead of the normal screen, I get what appears to be a white terminal dialog (although without any menus) in the top left hand corner, with a command prompt.I can't get it to go to Ubuntu.
View 6 Replies View RelatedEverything was working fine when my laptop got shut down after a battery failure. Now, on restarting, the computer hangs at the login screen. If I close the lid and reopen it, the keyboard seems to work and I can enter password and login, but the touchpad doesn't work at all and all the functions that were to be performed while holding the function key seems to happen automatically (For eg. when I press 0, another key gets typed). Perhaps the drivers are't getting loaded properly, I don't know. The same story is there no matter how many times I restart. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and the laptop is Dell Vostro 1525

I am doing some Linux kernel programming for my research project. I need to record the timestamp (by using cpuid and rdtsc) when an interrupt handler (top half) is first invoked. Due to the time critical nature of the problem itself, I have to do the timestamping inside the interrupt handler itself (the first operation when the handler is called). However, I understand that tasks that are not so time critical should be deferred to a tasklet function (bottom half) for processing because other interrupts are disabled in a (top-half) interrupt handler. I am currently out of idea on how I can pass the timestamp information that I have obtained in the interrupt handler to the corresponding tasklet function.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to 11.04 and really like it so far, everything seems to be running smoothly and I had no issues apart from a broken Emerald which I removed (and installed compiz-gnome and then made gtk-window-decorator the default, which fixed Unity segfaulting on Emerald).
My problem now is that when I use the Unity dash to search for something, it takes a while to search and then finds nothing. I'm pretty sure I should have things like "text editor", "gimp", "update manager", so I would think this is some manner of bug.
In addition to that, the following buttons don't do anything if I click on them:
- Media Apps
- Internet Apps
- More Apps
- Find Files
I installed the tracker plugin for Evolution, but it is not sending any information to the tracker search engine. The tracker icon shows that the email indexing is working but nothing happens. It shows always 0%.Does someone have an idea what the problem might be?
