Ubuntu :: Search Folders In Evolution : Status Is Not Read

Jan 6, 2010

I wanted to create something that is pretty standard in the computer world: a search folder that shows me all the unread email in both local and remote (IMAP: Ubuntu/Postfix/Dovecot) folders.

1. Create Search Folder

2. Edit properties to find: "Status is not Read"

Viewing the folder was a bit of a nightmare.

If I clicked on any email that was unread, the email would appear for a moment, it's status would then change to 'read', it would then vanish, the next unread email would come up and then vanish. All unread email would then be flipped through until there was none in the search folder.I now have to go through all of my folders to make sure I haven't missed any important emails. Is there a way to create a rational search folder for unread mail given this setup?

Fedora Installation :: Apt-get Search Wget Saying Invalid Operation Search?

Apr 5, 2011

i guess this is an installation issue as i am newish to Linux and got a F14 laptop from a used/refurb store... Anyway it seem i have difficulty with getting GTK running or maybe it is WGET...?

i did manage to install apt-get and was able to run synaptics ... but now whenever i try to run synaptics it flashes the interface and crashes. i tried apt-get search wget and it says invalid operation search. i tried apt cache wget and get a crash box in the upper right corner... i tried apt-get gtk+extra-2.1.2-4.fc14 and it says invalid operation gtk...

All of which is frustrating my attempts to get the GTK interface to J working. Their script uses WGET which i also cannot get.

OpenSUSE :: Version Of Evolution - Running The Evolution Mail System Under Fedora - 15 / KDE

Jul 26, 2011

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.

It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution

Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0

Apr 5, 2010

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. OpenSUSE :: Restoring Evolution 2.32.1.2 Settings Into Evolution 2.30

Feb 20, 2011

I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.

An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.

Ubuntu :: No Busy Cursor Icon In FF

Jan 7, 2010

I am not sure when this started for me, but I think in a recent update of Firefox. I am running Ubuuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. I am currently running FF 3.5.6. When I click on a link in a page, or refresh the page, the Arrow/Pointer cursor stays the same in place of the normal busy cursor that I am used to. This is more of an annoyance than a real functional issue, as I can't tell if the page is working except to see the tab showing loading, and the status bar in FF. I have searched the forums, and google/linux, but have not found a cause, nor a fix.

I also use Opera and Chrome at times and the busy cursor works there as expected. I also use Thunderbird and it is working there. So, I believe it is only related to FF. My addons are as follows, but I haven't added anything recently, and it was working before.

Extensions:
ColorfulTabs 4.1
Live HTTP Headers 0.15
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.8
Web Developer 1.1.8

Ubuntu :: Fsck On Busy Device Or Resource

Apr 4, 2011

I am dual-booting my Gateway laptop with Windows XP Media center Ed. and Ubuntu Notebook 10.10. Several weeks ago I was in the midst of downloading a program from the software center and my system starts running slow (this is in the Ubuntu kernel, not the Windows OS). So I decided to cold-boot the laptop in mid-download. When it boots back up, I get dropped to a grub-rescue menu that states the following:

Code:

Now, the only way I can even remotely use my laptop at the moment is to use my Live USB with the corresponding version of Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 or the Live CD I made with Ubuntu 10.04 on it (I'll explain why I made this below).

I read somewhere that I need to run fsck on my device to try to fix the partition, which btw my Ubuntu partition on my device is /dev/sda5, and before someone suggests it, I even tried using GParted and it doesn't work.

The reason I made a 10.04 CD is because I read somewhere that using the fsck from 10.04 might be more effective (for whatever reason) than the 10.10 fsck version.

I'd also like to add that I'm incapable of booting onto my Windows OS at all, yet I can access the partition from my Live CD/USB. the Ubuntu partition however, I can neither access or mount.

I tried running fsck on the entire device partition table, and I get the following:

Code:

This is me running fsck from the 10.04 version, I get a similar msg from the 10.10 Live USB but replace fsck.ext2 with fsck.ext4 in the message.

General :: /dev/shm Not Mounted /dev Busy

Mar 2, 2010

Recently I was trying out a boot disk I had made, and basically, I switched it off several times due to it booting the completely wrong kernel. Now, I'm getting to the stage "Checking File systems" and then comes up [Failed]. I then get a message saying Reboot required, and that it will reboot in 15 seconds, just a few seconds before it reboots I get "/dev/shm not mounted, /dev busy" or something similar.

I've booted up my sysresccd, ran "fsck.ext4 -fcv /dev/sda2" to force a check and scan for any bad blocks, it came up clean, then I rebooted and got the same error, so I copied the kernel and system.map over to /boot to make sure there's no corruption and reinstalled initscripts and util-linux-ng, rebooted, same error.Tried different kernels, I've checked fstab and menu.lst, no problems there, so I still don't get why I still get the same problem.

Server :: CPU Queue Vs CPU % Busy

Dec 29, 2010

Am wondering if looking at the CPU process queues, vs CPU% busy, are a better indication of whether an upgrade is needed.

Afterall, processes can still queue up to be processed even if "top" doesn't shown CPU 100%. Say if it's indicating 50% busy within the top output, it's only saying that 5 out of 10 times sampled, the CPU was busy. But a process may arrive to be processed at any time, and if it arrives just when the CPU is processing something it needs to wait in the queue. Am I making senses?

How many processes queued up would suggest an upgrade is required of the CPU? I've read online (believe it's Microsoft) that 2 is the figure.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: SdlMame - Bursts Of Static When Busy?

Feb 20, 2010

I am running sdlmame on my Aspire Revo, Everything is generally hunkey dorey & sound is perfect. However, when the processor gets a bit bogged down I sometimes suddenly get loud static through my speakers for a second or two before it reverts back to normal. Sometimes I lose it completely and just get constant static, although the game continues to play normally. Very occasionally the sound will recover, but normally that's it and I have to quit the game.

Pausing the game pauses the static but does not recover the sound (static continues when game continues).Setting mame to mix at a lower rate results in lower quality static, so it seems to be a problem with mame itself rather than my ALSA setup (I upmix everything to 48000Hz due to using digital out).Fiddling with mame's buffer length settings seems to make no difference. If I increase frameskip, then it decreases the likelyhood of static, but it's frustrating that I know the game can be driven at fullspeed. Sometimes I have to slow it down dramatically to completely guarantee non static.mame is the only app I have this problem with. All other sdl apps work fine, including other emulators.Anyone come across this before? It's really annoying when I'm playing Afterburner on my 60" plasma and 5.1 setup, and then I'm suddenly deafened by static. It's killing my perfect setup.
