I recently started having a strange problem: whenever skype makes a sound, e.g. when a contact logs in or out, rhythmbox puts itself into paused mode. this is even reproducible. when I go in to the skype settings, sound devices, and click on "Make a test sound", rhythmbox pauses whatever song it's playing. here's some debug output:

I just installed ubuntu 9.10 server edition (twice, just to be sure) and the installation ran fine, but when I try to boot into the system, i get past the BIOS loading screen then my monitor just goes into power saving mode and I can't get it to see a signal from the PC. I know the OS is running, because I can ssh into it from my laptop, and I know the monitor works, because that machine had a windows OS on it before and that worked fine with the same monitor. I had thought it might be a graphics card thing with ubuntu trying to push out at a resolution not supported by the monitor, but I find that unlikely as it's brand new this month. If anyone has any idea of something I can try to diagnose the problem, that would be great. As I said, I still have ssh access to the PC, so I can basically try anything on it that I could if I was physically at the box itself.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've encountered a very strange bug in Rhythmbox 0.12.8 on my Ubuntu 10.04 install. For some reason, anytime I have Rhythmbox running, all 3 LEDs on my Nostromo n52 gaming device blink, slightly faster than 1 blink per second (or a little over 60 Hz).The blinking does interfere with use of the n52. While the blinking occurs, only about half of my n52 keypresses get through.I guess Rhythmbox is sending signals via USB somehow. Anyone else noticed this bug?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used fedora 11 with no problem. Then I did a fresh install of fedora 12. The laptop started making some strange noise something like water dripping or like that. I noticed this long back but I couldn't describe the problem so I waited if I can find something on my own. Even now I'm not sure if anyone can understand whats going on. Just trying my luck. To make sure it was not my laptop( hardware ) problem I went back to fed 11, no strange sounds there. Same thing happened when I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 from Ubuntu 9.04. I'm no expert in operating systems. I do not know what is common in Ubuntu 9.10 and fedora 12 , but they are giving the same problem.

After the first screen display, I choice the first command (and the other time, I choice the second), and then, the installation began. But, about 1 minute after, the installation paused (may be stopped) and never continue. I don't know why. I installed Windows 7 before and I want to install Fedora 12 as a second OS. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem in my Aspire One D150 with an Intel 945 GME, and in my HP DV5 with an Intel GM45. When i put a window like Firefox in full screen mode (F11), and try to get into a menu, or an auto-complete option or trying to access a URL in the history of the address bar, results in a black blink that its very annoying, because it happens all the time.
This problem appears in the most GTK Apps that i run in full screen mode. QT Works perfect. If the composite its off, works perfect in both.
This happens in KDE 4.3.5 and KDE 4.4.1, so I have no clue about this. I want my composite on, and make that the GTK Apps work as well as the QT ones.
I want to install Debian but I'd like to keep my Skype chat history.
I don't know if it's possible to just copy from %appdata% the skype folder and put it into the Debian's one.
How could I do? I read one post but it's quite old, so maybe there's something new now.

I've this problem since I started to play videos through the internet. Whenever the videos is on full screen, it makes not only to stop the video but sometimes it becomes choppy. Also, when I try to play a video and another one is still buffering.. The video I attempt to play is still loading until I close the another that's buffering.
I'm frequently using Google Chrome.
2 sets of skype logs on work PC (Windows) - and I forgot to take a copy when I finished the assignment - and on my own Slackware PC. Would be very useful to be able to have only one set (and same for instant message logs) on my usb memory stick. Is this possible?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working for Fedora 12 installed on my laptop, and skype has worked. I was able to speak, able to listen and everything (besides some installation problems) was working fine.
Then I allowed Fedora to update(or bugfix or enhacement) some items of my system.
Now when I click on the loudspeaker symbol in the panel and open the mixer I see various tabe for sound input and output. Finally a good idea, and I even have a slide for skype!
But it does not work, I don't hear anything from skype (version 2.1.0.47).
I am able to record and playback via arecord/aplay, so in principal it should work. Any ideas what is wrong? Maybe a bug in a bugfix?

I basically can't get my mic to work in F12. After several releases fighting with pulseaudio, F11 finally worked almost OBO, after going to system->preferences->advanced sound configuration and setting all the input volumes to the maximum. But now there's no advanced sound configuration tool, and I just can't find anything to make it work. Skype isn't working, nor is gnome-sound-recorder. I do record some static, but nothing more. By the way, I'm on an Acer Timeline 3810T.

It seems that simply unplugging all USB devices and rebooting was all I needed to do.The other sound issue I have (that also occurs on a number of other distro's) happens when I launch Blender. If I have music playing when blender is launched the sound cuts out. If I kill the music player and restart it the sound is back.Below is my audio controller;

1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
For some time now, my laptop makes a quick but loud buzz sound when I shutdown or restart it. Muting my sounds doesn't fix it. Before, it didn't do this. It just started one day and got worse till it happened everytime I shutdown or restart.
Going to preferences > sounds > changing sound theme to no sounds helped a bit and after doing this, it doesn't happen all the time anymore. This is quite disturbing especially when I'm in libraries. What worries me the most though is that it might affect my speaker.
I'm using Karmic btw.
All of a sudden, My keyboards stopped working. It works for the login to enter password, but afterwards not.
Reboot and logout/login does not work.
A beep comes after pressing a key afterwards. I was only able to post this via links browser.
When I try to login as me - it gets pretty far but then something happens and automatically logs out. This happens in Gnome, Kde too. Now - I have no problem logging in a Root. Is there a way I can try to stop the login process before it kicks me out, or is there a way to look at some files to tell me what's going on?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe hard drive is accessed every few seconds with OpenSUSE and when it is there is a click sound when it is first accessed. I have other distros which dont make the clicking sound when they access the hard drive. I need to prevent opensuse from making the click sound when it does whatever it's doing. Im not even sure what it's doing or what settings to change, and most importantly how do i make it not click? Maybe i could copy settings over from another distro if i knew which settings to replace.

Now, web pages are displayed with a "crease" in them. This is a horizontal section where a small part of the page is missing. There is often a white line across the screen there. The same pages that have this problem under Opera are displayed correctly using Firefox.
Is there a simple fix for this problem or is it part of the improvments to the new version of opera?
get Skype to work on 64 bit have downloaded and installed the 32 bit which installed fine but just wont load
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, Rhythmbox will show itself playing a song (the notification in the top right corner) but I hear no sound. I can go to the application itself and see the play slider moving. I can't pause it or anything. if it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself. If I browse to the directory, and right click > Open with Rhythmbox, it works perfectly (although I still can't pause it)
Also, if I jump to another song, and then play the song it was playing silently, it works. Not sure why it does this.
I doubt it's the files themselves because I've been downloading all my songs from one site, and never had an issue in iTunes on a windows PC. It only does this to about 3 songs out of 164. It used to do this to only 2, but now it's doing it to 3 since the past few days when adding more songs.
I have accidently removed the sound icon along with the rhythmbox controller from my panel. Could someone tell me how to get it back please?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm a fairly new Ununtu user who has just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One D260, to get rid of my virus-ridden Windows and have mostly been happy with the results so far.
After a little experimentation, I decided that I preferred xfce over gnome and KDE as my window manager, but have encountered a little problem (actually it's a medium size problem) I don't get any sound from Rhythmbox It worked before perfectly with gnome but since I installed xfce, big silence when I try to play music.
Other applicatons such as Firefox and VLC produce sound perfectly, but when I try to play music in Rhythmbox, nothing comes out of the speakers. It appears to be playing normally with the progress bar moving normally.
I'm willing to use another music player if necessary but rhythmbox seems to be the most recommended one for linux and I liked it when it worked with gnome.
