I'm starting to think that samba is comprised of buggy applications and i'm basically hitting my head against a brick wall for the fun of it. Can anybody vouch for its reliability under fedora 13?
When I insert a cd into my optical drive, it is not showing up on my file menu. In Rhythmbox, I used to get an icon for the cd which I could click on to play the cd but that doesn't come up any more. I have my File Management Preferences set to ask me what to do when I insert a cd but it no longer asks me what to do. Banshee is the only thing left that shows a cd icon. How do I get my file management system and other programs to recognize a cd when inserted?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a samba server on my LAN. It can be accessed without any problems from Windows machines on the LAN without password. I have two computers that I have updated to OpenSuse 11.2 (both used to run 10.3). Since doing this upgrade I can no longer access the samba share from the Suse machines. Basically, both Dolphin and Konqueror ask for a username and password to access "avoca" (the workgroup).

After upgrading to fedora 11, some of the pdc functionality no longer worked.
For example, when i ran 'pdbedit -Lv', i got:

I was able to fix this by adding to the [global] section in /etc/samba/smb.conf:

I also found that i could no longer join an xp computer to the domain. i discovered that for some reason, the samba administrator password had been cleared. after running:

The last problem, which i have still not fixed, is that roaming profiles no longer work. when i try to do a domain login as user 'htpc' from an xp machine, i get the following message in xp:

I am using fedora 14 on lenovo laptops and android 1.6 I created a wireless network on my laptop with create a wireless network. But it was not detected by my android 1.6 phone. Same wireless network created on my MacbookPro is detected by the phone.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to use samba for file sharing like on a Windows home network. Actually they are all Linux machines but nfs is too complicated. On my host machine I installed samba and system-config-samba. I created a new share for /home, check marked writable and visible and put access to everybody. For preferences-->server settings--> security the "authentication mode" is set to user, encrypt passwords is no, and guest account is no guest account. Under preferences-->samba users I added myself as a user with the same windows user name as my Linux user name and the same password.
My client is a virtualbox fedora (used for testing purposes but actual clients will be real computers on my home network). I entered the address smb://192.168.1.184. When asked for the user name and password I put my regular user name and password since that was what I set in samba users. However, the password dialog keeps coming up and won't let met into my own computer. If I quit it says something like access is denied. How can I get my home network back? I liked this feature when my home computers ran XP but I switched them to Fedora 12.
Having a hard time getting NM to detect wireless usb device: Linksys model WUSB600N. Here are a few commands I do know about.

I ran "yum update" on 03-06-2009 and it updated my samba version from
3.2.8-0.26.fc10.x86_64
to
3.2.11-0.30.fc10.x86_64
My network shares then became read only!After some digging it turns out my system is not working because of Samba bug 6291, the "force user" option is no longer working.
Ideally I would run another "yum update" and that would fix the problem. Apparently the bug has been fixed in Samba 3.4.0pre2 - when can when we expect that to be released and included when I do a "yum update"?
Alternatively how do I get back to version 3.2.8-0.26.fc10.x86_64 ?
I'm trying to get my friend's laptop(acer travelmate 2200) to connect to his wireless network. I just installed a new hard drive and installed a dual boot windows xp/ Ubuntu 9.04 setup.
His laptop still connects fine with the old hard drive with windows XP installed, so I know the hardware is working.
When I click on the network manager , however, I don't see anything. Normally , I'd just hit the network manager and I'd see the available connections , but on this laptop I'm not detecting any.
The only thing I can think of , is that Ubuntu doesn't have the proper drivers needed for the wireless card in the laptop. But I don't know how to go about checking this since whenever I've done this before it's always just worked automatically.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.10 on a pretty fresh install with a brand new system I built especially for Ubuntu.For some reason, I'm beginning to have trouble with accessing my Samba shares from this computer. I have a Windows Home Server also running on my network and I have to be able to access the files on it.At first Nautilus showed "SERVER" in the folder tree when I clicked on "Network" and everything was working great. A couple of days ago my WHS "SERVER" suddenly no longer showed up in Nautilus and I had to mount the WHS server manually (via "Connect to Server...").
Now, today, even that doesn't work. When I try to mount manually I get the error "Failed to Retrieve Share List from Server". I can now no longer access the WHS from Ubuntu at all.Why has my ability to access the Samba shares on my WHS deteriorated over time to the point where I can't access them at all?? Any ideas?I have other systems on this network (Mac and Windows) and none of the others have any problems at all with the WHS. Re-booting WHS and router has no effect. I've changed nothing in my set-up. Is this update related?
We are running several server with SLES10SP3 and samba. After the service is running for a while we are getting timeouts for 15-20 seconds during a ping on the fqdn before he can resolv the name, same happens with traceroute and ssh. ping on a ip is successfull at once and nslookup is not showing any errors.
After a restart of the smb, nmb and winbind services the nameresolution is functioning normally again.
I honestly dont know where to start looking, this is a virtualized system and i checked the hypervisor (vsphere) logs but those turned out clean.
I use OpenSuse 11.3 and I successfully built a samba/openldap server. However the raoming profiles were not working so I removed the roaming profile part of the samba and the openldap using ldap account manager. I also rejoined a couple of the computers back to the domain successfully (it was not an instaneous join, it took a good minute or 2 to join each pc). Now I cannot cannot login to any of these computers with the domain credentials. I can share using the UNC path no problem and this was working find about 1 week ago.

I've recently been experiencing an issue connecting to my Samba shares on a Ubuntu 10.4 server box on my network from a Windows 7 client. If I use Ubuntu 10.10 on the same machine, or a Windows XP Virtual Machine running under both Windows and Linux host the share works absolutely fine.
What happens is if I browse to the hostname or the IP address I see a login prompt (there is access control) but my username and password no longer work. Before I didn't need to login as they are the same as my windows credentials.
I'm not sure what information/logs etc would be most relevant so I've posted some information, if any more is required then let me know where to find it and I'm sure I'll be able to get it.
Here is the last few days of the log when I believe it was working, there are no entries since.

I'm having a new problem with my wireless. It's detecting the network, but it won't connect. My Verizon card says it's WEP, but the WICD has three WEP options and none of them connect. What troubleshooting can I do?

Ever since my upgrade to 10.04 I no longer have Samba shares to my WinXP system(s).I have searched the forums high and low and for the life of me cant figure out what I am doing wrong.I am not able to see my XP system from Ubuntu, nor see my Ubuntu system from XP.Attached here is a copy of my smb.conf.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get Fedora F11 to see my network PC's and have searched high and low trying to find the problem. I have a local network with several WinXP, VISTA, MAC, and MYBOOKWORLD, devices as well as 2 Fedora machines. Everything sees everything and is able to transfer files just fine except the two Fedora machines.
They see nothing on the network. All the other machines do see the Fedora machines, and are able to transfer files to them. Both have the /var/ directory shared. This network worked just fine back when running Fedora FC5 and FC7. After upgrading to FC9 I was unable to see the network from the Fedora machine, but did not have a need to do that so ignored the problem. After installing FC11 on another machine, I now have a need for the two machines to see the network and transfer files. The error I get is nearly identical on both of the Fedora machines.

COWBOY is the workgroup all of the computers are in. On the FC9 machine I do not get the error, the screen just goes blank when I click on "COWBOY" The other difference is that on the FC11 machine it does see itself and has an icon next to the "Windows Network" icon. I can click on it and mount the shares. They do not show up in the windows network.
I've got F14 up and running on a remote WiFi machine. I need Samba to set up a network printer. Is there a Samba GUI someone can point me to to get started on this?.

I set up my two paths that I wanted to be shared when I go to network in Dolphin I'm seeing Network, Network Services and Samba Shares If I click on Network nothing shows, same with Network services, samba shares shows nothing and the bottom reads "unable to find any workgroups on your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall"
There are two workgroups which my Ubuntu machine shows fine, workgroup and mshome, I can connect to my roomates and my girlfriends computer no problem within Ubuntu (they are running XP, Vista and Ubuntu).
