I would like to setup Samba so that I can just access that server (Samba printer server) and both network printers will show up on there for me to connect to. On that note, can I also load the drivers on my Samba server? Drivers for different Windows flavours and also Mac OSX drivers.

Jul 17, 2010I want to use samba for file sharing like on a Windows home network. Actually they are all Linux machines but nfs is too complicated. On my host machine I installed samba and system-config-samba. I created a new share for /home, check marked writable and visible and put access to everybody. For preferences-->server settings--> security the "authentication mode" is set to user, encrypt passwords is no, and guest account is no guest account. Under preferences-->samba users I added myself as a user with the same windows user name as my Linux user name and the same password.
My client is a virtualbox fedora (used for testing purposes but actual clients will be real computers on my home network). I entered the address smb://192.168.1.184. When asked for the user name and password I put my regular user name and password since that was what I set in samba users. However, the password dialog keeps coming up and won't let met into my own computer. If I quit it says something like access is denied. How can I get my home network back? I liked this feature when my home computers ran XP but I switched them to Fedora 12.
OpenSUSE Network :: Windows 7 Cannot Connect To Samba-shared Printer?

I shared the printer with samba and can print from a Windows XP notebook connected to the network, but whenever I try to connect a Windows 7 machine, I always get the message that Windows cannot connect to the printer.

Oct 19, 2010I am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?

We have:
5 windows XP machines one Windows Server 2003 machine, PDC of the old domain One debian Samba PDC (of TEST domain)/print server (with CUPS installeD) running in a virtual machine hosted by the windows server One Toshiba eStudio 3511 printer
Using the CUPS control panel, I've been able to autodetect and add the printer, and it appears as an available share in SWAT for samba. However, the driver isn't perfect. CUPS could only supply drivers for the 3510c, not the 3511.
However, clients on the TEST domain are unable to access it. Doing so gives an error about a local policy preventing a connection to the print queue. I've tried googling this error and the fix that comes up in every result about changing a point and print policy setting, does not work.
however, I've been able to work around the issue. by first logging in as local administrator, navigating to the domain server, then inputting the domain root account credentials at the prompt. That allows me to attempt to connect to printers, but with a different error
"The server for the printer does not have the correct driver installed...."
I very strongly suspect that the 3510 driver actually will work, but it's just not being shared properly. The printer driver share folder is /var/lib/samba/printers, and that directory contains only a few empty subfolders. CUPS did not place the driver there as I would expect, and that is where clients are looking for it.
The thing is, I have no idea where CUPS DID put the driver.
On the old domain, the printer uses drivers for es4511, and looking on the toshiba site, this seems to be what they provide. The Toshiba Site provides a huge variety of drivers, including several windows ones, a universal driver, and a CUPS PPD. Cups asks for an optional PPD during install and I tried supplying that. It said installed successfully, but didn't change anything.
I've tried pasting the windows drivers into /var/lib/samba/printers/W32X86 too, and likewise with other drivers from toshiba's site. but this doesn't change anything either, so I'm at a bit of a loss.
how to install/setup drivers on a samba PDC, for windows machines?

If you have Samba installed and configured to share certain folders on your Fedora machine for a Windows network but, they can't be accessed then following might solve the problem:
1. Go to Applications, Other and run FIREWALL
a). go to TRUSTED SERVICES and check SAMBA and SAMBA CLIENT that are located in the list of services
b). click APPLY
c). go to ICMP FILTER and check ECHO REPLY (PONG) and ECHO REQUEST (PING)

Nov 16, 2010My desktop is now dual boot, Xubuntu 10.10 has been added to WinXP. The attached parallel printer works fine with either OS. When running XP I can share the printer with my two XP laptops without problem. I cannot share it when the desktop is running Xubuntu. Neither laptop can see the printer. However, if I open the desktop Samba config application, change any parameter, retype in the original parameter, both laptops can see and connect to the shared printer - until I reboot the desktop

Feb 3, 2009I have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. I tried the Linux PC's MAC address and set up a wired connection in Network Manager. NM still thinks there isn't one...

Mar 1, 2009I have a fedora 10 box with two network card on eth0 I have a pppoe connection to the internet, on second card eth1 I share my internet connection end I set up a samba server but I don't know if the settings are good. How to do this settings right to work fine, the ip are assigned by dhcp I don't use any static ip .When I try to browse the internet from the other computers some site's like {.com ; .org ; .info} are block, other site from {.ro} are working. Someone tell me something about turn off all my filters, but I don't know where to find this filter to turn it off. And when I use samba I can't have and internet access or vice versa. Nov 29, 2010 I set up Samba using command line terminal, and my network does not work. I have Samba username and keyring passwords all set, then I go to gui system-config-samba, and my samba user profile password is incorrect. In the past, I have used a 10 letter password, however, every time I boot the computer, I have to go back in and re-enter the password.I wonder if samba is truncating the password because it only accepts an 8 character password? I have deleted the user, and added a new username, and it is still doing it.
If I go into the gui and re-enter the password, usually I can get the network back up with my windows machine. All of the parameters are correct, I use the network to transfer files from my Windows to my Fedora drive all of the time when it works.

Ubuntu Networking :: Samba Shared Printer Not Visible?
Nov 14, 2010I am trying to access a shared printer from one Ubuntu PC to another.
On the Server PC, I have the printer working, I have set it to shared, and I have set the server setting to Publish shared printers. I can see and use the printer fine from a windows PC.
On my Ubuntu Client PC, I have samba installed, including smbclient, and all other samba components I can think of. I can see other computers on my home workgroup (Windows and Ubuntu fine). I can also add a printer connected to my windows PC. However I cannot find the printer connected to the other ubuntu PC.
I see the instruction in the Samba guide saying
"Now enter your Ubuntu Samba Print Server (set up as above) IP address in the box on the left titled "smb://"."
However I do not have fixed ip addresses, so what am I supposed to enter in the box. If I enter nothing I can browse the network and can see the host computer, but the printer is not displayed. I can also see the printer connected to the windows PC. How do I 'see' the Ubuntu printer?
Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing Samsung Printer Over Samba?
Jul 27, 2011I have a Samsung CLX 3175 connected via CUPS to a Ubuntu box running 11.04. After installing the Samsung Unified Printer Driver as described in this post [URL] the printer works perfectly under Linux, I even got network scanning to work under Windows via TwainSane.
The big problem is network printing from Windows over Samba, though (although I thought that this should be easier to set up than scanning..). Even after hours of trying, I could not get it to print a single page spooled from my Windows computer.the print jobs do show up in CUPS as finished, but do not actually get processed. Could this be a rights-related thing? Depending of one setting in smb.conf (namely, "cups options = raw"), the printer even makes some noise and warms up when I spool a new job -- but it does not print.
My setup is the following:
- CUPS in the current version with Samsung Driver
- Samba 3.5.8
- Windows XP and 7 clients

Aug 30, 2010I'm giving up in ever hoping that I'll get printing working with windows 7 with the strange comments I've found on the net. Basically I have a samsung ML2240 printer shared on the network, everything can print to it fine except for my windows 7 laptop. It's shared via Samba.

Networking :: Using Samba For Connecting To Vista Shared Printer
May 24, 2009I'm trying to set up a Samba printer in Debian linux. The printer is being shared by a computer running windows vista. Some of the information I've got in the process. Sharing seems to be working, the printer seems to be detected and authenticating (I've tried invalid values and the utility I'm using to set things up says it cannot verify when I use invalid values, but with things as they are it claims everything checks out).
When I go into CUPS it says it detects the printer and everything is working. However, printing a test page causes the job to be immediately complete and nothing happens. It seems that the job is getting lost somewhere in the process. Could it be a firewall issue? I feel like the right ports must be unblocked since I can query the computer and verify the printer, etc. I have a laptop with vista which I installed a printer on and was able to print to that computer just fine. So it doesn't seem to be a Vista thing.

Ubuntu Networking :: Vista Unable To Connect To Samba Printer
Feb 22, 2010I'm having some problems with sharing my printer via SAMBA. Connected to my Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop is a HP office-jet D135 witch I shared via samba. I have no problems printing from my Ubuntu laptop. And in Vista I can see and access all the other shares, including the printer. But ones i try to access the printer I get a pop-up window telling me: "unable tot connect to printer error code 0x00000709 check if the name is correct or if the printer is connected to the network" ( but of course in Dutch). Mar 11, 2010I have a Samba file server with one windows & one Ubuntu workstation. The Ubuntu workstation is a Samba print server. The problem is that the XP machine cannot access the printer. If I restart Samba on the print server it works again. There may be a pattern but I havn't figured it out yet.

CentOS 5 Server :: Super Slow Windows Printer Properties Dialogue With Samba Printer
Sep 18, 2009I have a Centos 5.3 server with Samba file shares and a shared Samba printer. I am not running a domain.
I recently changed my windows desktop pc from an XP machine to a vista 64 machine... It has a different user name. Everything went pretty smoothly - and the and the vista machine found the smba printer - and even downloaded the driver from the samba server. he printer works OK - and the file shares are fine.
The only thing which is quite odd - is that the Printer Properties dialogue takes more than 30 seconds to come up - and every action you attempt with the dialogue takes a similar amount of time.

Oct 20, 2010I have found that there are certain things on the web that I need to print, that simply refuse to work under linux. I have a samba printer server on one of my Slackware boxes and an M$ XP vm under Vbox that can access the server and see the printer. The only problem that I have is that it expects to download a driver from the server which isn't available and the HP driver installer won't install if it doesn't detect the printer. Short of relocating the printer to install the driver, does anyone know how to get the driver installed on the XP host? This is so much easier with my Slack boxes and CUPS!

Jun 8, 2011I've been trying to set up my printer that I'm sharing through a desktop running Windows 7 and am having trouble getting the authentication details to stay saved, or even work, for that matter.
No matter whether or not I tell the New Printer program to remember my authentication details, it doesn't. If I tell it to prompt me if it needs details, I get no prompt. So, in order for me to print a document, I have to tell it to print, then go into the print queue and authenticate it from there.
1. IIs there a way, either manually or through GUI, to either save my authentication details or just have it prompt me upon printing to save me from going into the print queue?
2. This isn't exactly on-topic, but it came up while I tried to set up the printer. Has anyone else had their SMB URI come up incorrectly with the spaces incorrectly rendered as "20" instead of "%20:?
Fedora :: Can't Gain Access To Samba In Printer Setup / Make It Possible?
Aug 23, 2011When trying to install a new printer I can't get the samba to show under the network printer list. I even tried the "localhost" method & it still doesn't show. Samba is running fine & I can navigate to my shares. Even running the printer config. in the terminal result in no errors & no list.
Anyone have any ideas? This is the first I've encountered this... not even to sure what to google.
Fedora Networking :: System-config-printer Bad Printer Entry?
Dec 26, 2009I have a problem with a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which I think is interfering with my ability to print. I run fedora 10 on several systems in my house. On one desktop, I have a printer hosted which I think I have successfully setup for wireless network sharing (an HP895) using IPP.My problem seems to be a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which seems to stall when I try to print from applications (Firefox for example.) on the notebook. If I open up "Printing", I have 3 printers listed... one of them is for when the printer is attached directly to the notebook, one of them is the working printer description "printer" and the 3d is the bad entry. If I click on the bad entry to try to delete it, I don't have that option, but If I try to look at the "properties" for that entry, system-config-printer stalls (as do other applications when the printing dialog box starts up, and I have to force them to shut down.)
I will attach some screenshots and a copy of my /etc/cups/printers.conf file.How do I get rid of this "bad entry" in the system-config-printers GUI ? It doesn't seem to exist in the printers.conf file.

Jan 17, 2010Having made the transition from a certain widely used operating system to linux, suse 11.2, x64, successfully and pleasantly we are still left with a few problems.One of these is a few applications i have to use which run only in that old OS. ?To that end I have installed VirtualBox and got them to run with one glitch. I cannot print from VBox to my HP LaserJet 4000, lpt1 printer, which works fine in suse. Searching and posting on the Vbox forums turned up that lpt1 is not supported in the current vbox and that I need to set up a virtual network, set up the printer as a network printer and set it up as an lpd/lpr printer in Vbox WinXP. Have tried many different ways to do this without success, I think the problem is I do not know how to set up a network printer in Linux.
The virtual network is vboxnet0, which does show up in ifconfig, along with my eth0 net, and I can ping the windows guest, gateway and the host from either side host:suse/guest:winXP) respectively. Have tried numerous ways of setting up printer in YaST which works in suse but still does not work from WinXP guest. Have read the suse manual and several sources and searched forums with no results.Finally I am thinking I just don't know how to set up a network printer in linux. Using cups, kde, suse 11.2, don't know what else to tell. Samba is installed, although I am not using it to the best of my knowledge.
