Sometimes when I try to open some chat application i get a strange warning message asking for password. The message is that /usr/libexec/mission-control is trying to gain access of the system, please provide the password. On top of the message box it shows "Unlock Keyring".
This very weird, as I am also unable to do a print-screen when this message box is up.
what this message is all about and what does the executable /usr/libexec/mission-control do?
Just installed F15, was everything fine, but then gnome got away, from terminal I have<gnome-session:1951): Warning can't start display message. Before that I put in config file one extra line to start tint2 like <sleep 3 && tint2.Not sure was it the reason?
I'm using NoMachine's FreeNX client on my Vista PC to access my Fedora 12 box. Mostly works a real peach and I'm very impressed with it. But...... Working through some of the stuff I'd "like" it to do I'm struggling with enabling sound.I've enabled the Multimedia setting in the NX Client. I've loaded via Add/Remove Software,
Sound support with ESD gg2-esound-2.3.0-13.fc12 (i686) PulseAudio EsounD dameon compatibility script
Is there any way to set up my system so that, just before I run out of RAM, and SWAP is utilized, I can get a warning message so that I can kill the memory hog before my computer slows to a crawl?I'm a programmer, and it's happened a few times that my programs have memory leaks and run over into SWAP and effectively freeze my system.
I'm pretty new to Ubutnu and Linux in general so take it easy on me. I'm a Senior at the University of Houston and part of our final project involves running an application in Ubuntu that was developed by another university. It installs fine, but when I run the command the launch the configure gui I get a strange warning message.
Why is it when I run gedit, there are always tonnes of error or warning messages? (Even though my gedit ran successfully)
To name a few: 1. GConf error: failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you ned to enable TCP/IP networking for 0 RBit, or you have stale NFS lockes due to a system crash. 2. Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply among others.
Just to mention again my gedit is running fine though. Is there any configuration that I missed out? or I can disable to avoid these nuisance?
Have had a clean perfectly working copy of 2.6.31.6-166 for months and after two updates to 2.6.31.12-174.2.3 and 2.6.31.12-174.2.19, neither of the newer kernel versions will allow machine to boot properly. Start-up hangs at the preload daemon with a flickering screen. To use machine, must use grub chooser and choose the original base kernel.
Running on Tyan h2000m board, opteron 2356, Nvidia 9800 GTX+ and 12GB of dram with SELinux security enabled.
rencently, i move develop env from one linux machine to another, two linux have same gcc and make version, but at new linux machine make warning/error messages dont show color font.so, when make, there are all white messages, i cant focus on warning and error.
I recently did a fresh install of current and once I had it up and running I compiled a fresh 2.6.33 kernel using my old config file, but now I get this warning durning boot, specifically during module loading WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/sound, it will be ignored in a future release. This doesn't seem to be causing any problems but I am curious to know what the message meams? I checked /etc/modprobe but everything looks normal.
For some reason my laptop cannot keep a connection with any wireless signal. I have tried several networks and resetting the router and it just doesnt work. Im not sure why...i have selected to connect to a certain network and it either takes forever to finally connect or doesnt connect at all. also when it does connect it only last a few minutes, meanwhile using win7 i have no issues with the connection.
I would like to configure the eth0 manually. I can configure the ip address and sub-netmask but the system can't hold my gateway ip address (I added). It will keep it 0.0.0.0. I have no problem when I getting IP address from DHCP server.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and my setup is as follows:
As you can see, I am directly connected to router 192.168.25.1, and so my ip address is 192.168.25.101. I want my ip address to be 192.168.13.101, and make router 192.168.13.1 my gateway router. Is this possible under the current physical layout (I do not want to have to connect directly into 192.168.13.1, but keep my computer where it is at)?
When I run tracepath, it shows 192.168.13.1 is one hop away.
What I've tried:
The problem is under this manual setup, I cannot ping 192.168.13.1 and running command netstat -rn returns the following:
I use another kernel on my eeepc which is specially adjusted for the Hardware Needs of this little machine.
The source of this kernel is: [url]
But since today I have the problem that the updater would like to update the vanilla kernel from the Fedora Repos.
Even though there aren't any versions of this vanilla kernel already installed. So I don't know what causes this mistake and would like to prevent this kernel from auto-updating.
For the few thousands of people who have a little too much time on their hands who create personal web servers and host them using their local ISP on dynamic IP addressees.... what does the future hold for me.. {COUGH} ... I mean, them when IPv6 rolls out?
I've got two computers, with the mouse, keyboard and monitor connected through a Cybex Switchview switch. When I connect the viewsonic vg920 directly to the linux box, I can set the resolution using the System menu. However when I connect the linux box to the monitor through the switch, linux somehow cannot detect what the monitor is and resets the resolution to a much lower setting. How can I make the monitor settings in Fedora 12 permanent, so that when I connect to the monitor through the switch I keep the higher resolution?

I need to connect to my company through a Cisco VPN. The Cisco client fails to build so I thought of using vpnc. I used Network manager (NetworkManager-vpnc is installed). However after setting everything up and then logging in, I get the 'VPN Connection Failed' message.
I installed fedora 11 and configured xdsl(pppoe). I then performed an upgrade and installed some apps. Internet still worked before the restart. After that even though i could activate the device, i cannot view websites. I get a server not found error message. I have tried using both firefox and konqueror. Internet works in windowsIs this due to the upgrade? If so which upgrade would have caused the error? How do i resolve it
I have installed Preload (0.6.4-1) on Xubuntu 11.04. How do I know if it is running/working? I can't seem to find any reference to Preload in the task manager.
But that causes stuff to fail when KDE starts. What can I put in /etc/profile or .bashrc to preload padsp only for Wine? If nothing can do that, how else can I make Wine always use padsp without having to run it from a console every time?
I have a HP Elitebook 6930 with Intel 5300 wireless card and today I update it from Fedora11 to Fedora 12 and now I cannot connect with my home wireless network. Previously with F11 I connected without problems but now the wireless connection presents a "Device not ready" message. I tried to switch on/off the wireless card but without results. I had to set intel_iommu=off as kernel parameter to complete the boot. Is something related to it?
