Fedora :: Configure Path $ESD BIN PRELOAD?

Nov 29, 2009

I'm using NoMachine's FreeNX client on my Vista PC to access my Fedora 12 box. Mostly works a real peach and I'm very impressed with it. But...... Working through some of the stuff I'd "like" it to do I'm struggling with enabling sound.I've enabled the Multimedia setting in the NX Client. I've loaded via Add/Remove Software,

Sound support with ESD
gg2-esound-2.3.0-13.fc12 (i686)
PulseAudio EsounD dameon compatibility script

Red Hat / Fedora :: GCC - Configure: Error: No Acceptable C Compiler Found In $PATH

Jul 6, 2011

I'm pretty new at working with Linux/Unix systems, just started dealing with the CLI a week or two ago at work so bear with me if my questions/problems seem obvious, they probably aren't to me. URLs are at the bottom since I can't hyperlink to them. We have a server with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga), x86_64 GNU/Linux. For the past few days at least (not sure when it began) every five minutes we get two messages for CPU0 and CPU1 saying: "Temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled". Occasionally it says they are normal, so they're not *always* above the threshold but a majority the time.

The server doesn't have internet, so I interact with it and transfer files via ssh/telnet/sftp from my Windows PC to another server running Fedora release 10 (Cambridge) to the RHEL5 server. I have been trying to install lm_sensors to try and read the CPU temperature and possibly the fan speed, but every installation method has failed. I have tried installing it via the yum command I read about on this page (URL 1), but since it doesn't have internet access it didn't work. I then tried manually installing using the instructions on the lm-sensors.org page (URL 2), but whenever I try to install anything (gcc, libtool,

libsysfs) it shows:
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl.exe... no
configure: error: in '/home/user/src/libtool-2.4':
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

I then looked up how to install gcc, but when I found a .rpm file of gcc 4.1.2 for RHEL5 I tried installing that like it mentions here (URL 3), but there are lots of [dependancy] programs I can't find a .rpm for as it seems they are all outdated and hard to find for RHEL5. Do I need to find the installation CD in order to install gcc? And is there any other way to check the cpu temperature or to know how to disable/fix the messages about temperature being above threshold?

Fedora Installation :: FC12: Yum Update Then Boot Hangs / Preload Daemon?

Feb 17, 2010

Have had a clean perfectly working copy of 2.6.31.6-166 for months and after two updates to 2.6.31.12-174.2.3 and 2.6.31.12-174.2.19, neither of the newer kernel versions will allow machine to boot properly. Start-up hangs at the preload daemon with a flickering screen. To use machine, must use grub chooser and choose the original base kernel.

Running on Tyan h2000m board, opteron 2356, Nvidia 9800 GTX+ and 12GB of dram with SELinux security enabled.

Ubuntu :: How To Configure PATH For TeX Live

Aug 5, 2011

After installing texlive I got this message:
"add /usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/i386-linux to your PATH for current and future sessions."
By default the result of echo $PATH in ubuntu 10.04 LTS is:
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin/bin:/usr/games

In my .bashrc file, exactly where should I insert the suggested PATH? Does it matter where it is put (please keep security hole issues also while answering this question). For example will it be OK if I add this line at the end of my .bashrc file:
/usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/i386-linux:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin/bin:/usr/games

What is the correct position where texlive PATH should go. (I realized simply adding the above line, /usr/local/texlive/2011/bin/i386-linux at the end of my .bashrc is not the correct way to do because this gives rise to executing common commands live vi or xemacs etc(PATH clash, command not found in suggested PATH)). Another doubt is related to the kernel, the command sudo uname -a gives me:
linux myname-desktop 2.6.32-33-generic #71 Ubuntu SMP wed Jul 20 17:31:40 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
Do you think the downloaded texlive will work since this relevant to i386-linux?

Programming :: Specify A Library Search Path To Configure's AC_CHECK_LIB?

Aug 31, 2010

I'm writing an application and want to make possible to compile it with or without an optional module. This module requires perl library to be compiled, so I want to check presence of it in 'autoconf'.

The problem exists because perl library is placed in 'non-standart' location itself (like a /usr/lib64/perl5/CORE/libperl.so). So when I try to run configure (with AC_CHECK_LIB or AC_SEARCH_LIBS), it cannot find and link libperl.so in its test.

Trying to pass ./configure CFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64/perl5/CORE/ or ./configure LDFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64/perl5/CORE/

How can I define a location to search for configure's tests?

Software :: How To Install The GCC - Configure: Error: No Acceptable C Compiler Found In $PATH

I just installed RedHat and I need to install a compiler (among other things). When I go to 'configure' gcc I get:

configure: error: in `/Compiler':
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

Why in the world would you require a compiler on the install of your compiler!? I may be dumb in many respects, and I'm sure that people will attest to that, but I'm not that dumb...How do I install gcc without a compiler? What, specifically, do I do with the configure script (or executable, I don't know what it is...)

Fedora :: Add Path In .bashrc By Commenting Out Old Path And Adding New One - Command Source ~/bashrc

Jun 14, 2011

When I add some path in .bashrc by commenting out old path and adding new one like this:

#EXPORT HOME_PLAY=/home/gem/old_play
EXPORT HOME_PLAY=/home/gem/play
EXPORT PATH=$PATH:HOME_PLAY

After saving above changes, I enter the command: source ~/.bashrc Now if I do echo $PATH, the path shows both the old PLAY_HOME and new PLAY_HOME. This is really bad and messes up a lot of things in my project. This problem only goes away if I logout or reboot, a rather very long process. What is happening is that the old path is added to new path element and the old path includes the old path element you want to remove.

Fedora :: 12 And VMTools - The Path "" Is Not Valid Path To The Gcc Binary

running Windows 7 64bit with VMware Workstation 7.01-build 227600. I have some knowledge of Linux, I have installed f12 and have updated the system as of 03/22/2010. All updates completed successfully.

1) How do I install VMTools on the f12 (after mounting the CD/DVD tool package)

2) How do I update the gcc files it says are dependencies?

Here's what I get on installation:Before you can compile modules, you need to have the following installed...

make
gcc
kernel headers of the running kernel

and then I am prompted for this input from the install script:

Searching for GCC...
The path "" is not valid path to the gcc binary.
Would you like to change it? [yes]

and this is where I get stuck. How do I get around this or satisfy the requirements for the install?

Debian :: Preload Take Long Time To Give Result?

Jan 8, 2010

i got intel inside. when grabbing windows and moving them around they "streaked "(right word ?) over the monitor. Desktop-experience was simply "sluggish". I searched for all kind of info on this board. e.g.: installed preload, intel-microcode, set Xwrapperconfig to -1; -5, -10. tried some changes with swappines and cache_pressure in sysctl.conf. without knowing what it might be good for i ran prelink -a. For about a week it simply rocks: all is "sharp" and clean, including the move of windows. How come? does preload take such a long time ( a few months) to give such an amazing result? Is it related to graphics at all? I upgraded to ext4 bout 4 weeks ago (which takes a while too, from what i have read). intel-microcode doing magic? With the money i got chances are high that the pc`s i buy are intel-inside ones. and with a build-in graphics-card

OpenSUSE :: SUSE Studio Preload ISO Refuses To Install (most Of The Time)?

I load it up in VirtualBox, and on the screen that warns "you are about to erase all data on /dev/sda, continue?", selecting "yes" will 80% of the time cause it to think you cancelled and waits 30 seconds before rebooting. Every now and then it decides to work, but sadly that's the exception and not the rule. OpenSUSE Install :: Disabling Preload To Avoid Very Long Startups?

May 10, 2011

For a number of openSUSE releases now, on a periodic basis (monthly, it seems?) both my laptop and my desktop take forever to start. During this time, the hard disk activity is going berserk. When inspecting this with "iotop", a process called "preload" or "start_preload" is hammering the disk, sometimes up to 10 minutes.

The irony is when you research "preload", you find mostly articles like "drastically speed up your Linux system with preload"- I sometimes think it has to do with running VMs on these machines and maybe it's trying to cache those large disk images? Pure speculation, but I can't seem to find any documentation on this.

Anyway, I did finally find a way to turn this thing off. WARNING: since I do not know exactly what preload does and whether your machine becomes unusable if you turn it off, please only follow these instructions at your own risk. Since preload seems to be a very low-level system/service, I did not want to risk uninstalling it. What I did instead was:

Yast2 - System Services (RunLevel)
Click the Expert Mode radio button
Scroll down to the boot.startpreload entry

[code].....

Since I applied these steps, no long boot times with insane hard disk activity has occurred and I also have not noticed anything else complaining or not working with this service off.

General :: Forcing An Absolute Path Where A Relative Path Is Expected

Feb 21, 2011

I have a program that takes a relative path as input appends it to a some path string to get the actual path.

Now all I can input is the relative path. So if I want to go one level above my input will be ../mypath.

If I know the depth of the path used internally, I can use .. as many times to go to the root directory and then give the absolute path. But suppose I do not know the depth of the directory, can I construct a relative path string such that it considers it as a relative path. One way could be to have enough .. in the path string so that I can force an absolute path for some maximum depth of path.

Is there some path string syntax that I am not aware of but can achieve this?
