I see the new device but it's written inactive. The Active/inactive buttons are disable (or not seen at all). How can i resolve/Active the wireless?
I'm running openSUSE 11.4 x86_64. When I am using GIMP, it will regularly stop allowing me to use my mouse or Wacom Intuos 3, forcing me to use my keyboard, but only within dialogs such as for scaling a layer, saving a file, etc. It's so flaky that the mouse/tablet will work sometimes and not sometimes, back and forth, within one "session" of using GIMP. It's driving me nuts. Sometimes I struggle with the keyboard (a struggle because it's indirect and sometimes counter-intuitive), other times I'll close the dialog and re-open it to see if that time the mouse (or tablet) will work. From what I've seen, I'll either be able to use both or not able to use both, rather than only having the mouse but not the tablet or vice versa.

I'm running fedora 10 with enabled desktop effects on an ati card. It seems to have included an effect similar to OS Xs active corners and expose where the top right corner gives me an overview of every window. I have ccsm installed and tried to disable every feature enabled but it doesn't seem to come from there.

The only solution I have is to reboot my computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and now if I leave my computer inactive for 5 minutes it goes black and then I have to enter my password. This is really annoying when I am streaming videos or watching movies. I have gone through all the admin and preferences and can't find how to turn this off or even how to change the time for going into stand-by. I would expect it to be in the power management but it isn't there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe symptom is that NetworkManager repeatedly ask for password to connect to my AP.My AP is secured with WPA-PKI. The problem even happens with Fedora 11 live cd if I'm not quickly configure wireless connection using NetworkManager right after Fedora completes booting up. It means if I promptly configure wireless connection, i'm still able to access Internet. Same thing happens for the first boot of Fedora from hdd. For the second boot or when I dont quickly configure wireless connection when system finished booting up, NetworkManger repeatedly asks for password for AP.

I'm new to Fedora 10 and still a newbie with Linux in general. I installed F10 on an old PC I had....and the install went well..however, I'm having Internet Connectivity issues.
Here is what I did so far:

When I go to the Network Configuration Panel I see the following:

Tried to activate and it states Activating network device pan0, please wait... determining IP information for pan0.... A few minutes pass by then. It indicates it failed. Cannot activate network device pan0! I have disabled the Controlled by NetworkManger and enabled the Activate device when computer starts.
I am running the Ubuntu Netbook Remix and setting up our systems for Active Directory Domain Authentication. When I am hard wired in (ethernet), AD authentication works with no problems using the Likewise-Open software (installed through Ubuntu Software Center). What I want to be able to do is have people authenticate with AD with only a wireless connection. Has anybody done this before?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed F15 on a laptop that previous had F12 working well. During install, it finds my wireless card and seems to set it up fine. The full install ran with the wireless active without any problem that I could see. Now, when I start up, I see Network Manager tells me that the wlan is active, but it doesn't show my specific network. If I click on the NM tray icon and open up the panel, my network is shown but it is not "active".
I can double click on it and it will become active - shows the little globe next to the antenna. This works fine for about 2 web pages worth and then FireFox 4 stops being able to find web pages. If I go back to the panel, double click on my wireless network (which looks like it is active already), and reactivate it, I can get the page I was looking for in FireFox, but within a couple of minutes it will stop.
Likewise with yum, while I'm installing software, I'll occasionally get errors like this:

If I reactivate my wireless network in the NM panel, it continues fine. Other computers/phones connected to this network seem to work fine. Is NM known to be problematic in F15?

My laptop has a some multimedia keys for quick access. They are causing a common issue with many HP laptops easily found on the Internet ( volume keeps turning up and down). Apparently the ultimate solution is to simply disable this buttons. On the next page, under the title "Multimedia Keys" it is explained how this QuickPlay buttons had to be enabled to work in Etch. URL....Now, I have installed Jessie, and I do not know if thew were automatically installed or not. But they are causing a very annoying problem. I want to simply disable these "Multimedia keys" so they do not produce any input.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."
I disabled pulse audio in favor of just working with jack, alsa_in & alsa_out and everything works pretty well except for one thing.
When I enable pulseaudio I can control the volume with my multimedia keys, volume up, volume down, mute.
If I kill pulseaudio not only do I not have volume controls but the little widget in the top bar seems to be broken.
I looked in my /etc/acpi/ folder and see these files relating to volume

nothing comes up for those keys, the terminal cursor just blinks.
also one more thing, those keys are set to shortcuts in the settings->keyboard->shortcut menu.
I can control my device with the amixer so I would like to just bind amixers functions to the keys but I don't really know how to go about doing that.
How can I bind amixers commands with those keys?
I have an Acer Aspire 3680 running 10.04. It has four buttons on the top left side of the keyboard (http://images.tigerdirect.com/SkuIma...5-AS3680-e.JPG) but I want to make them do specific things (like open the terminal, or firefox). How would I go about doing this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had a host of problems since upgrading to 11.04 Natty Narwhal, so let's deal with these 1 at a time.
I've got a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion G60 laptop. Next to the power button is a handy wireless on/off button. This has always worked well with previous editions (9.04,through 10.10). first press toggles the wireless off, second press toggles it on.
Not so in 11.04. The toggle off works great, first time. But, it will not toggle back on. Not after any number of tries, not after restarting, not after booting into other OS's (9.10 and Vista) re-enabling it there and then booting back into Narwhal. to further complicate the issue, this feature bypass the network manager, so toggling the wireless off by the switch leaves me showing no wireless adapter in the network manager. I also restarted, switched from Unity to a Gnome session, but the issue still persists.
As my only network options are wireless, this has become a substantial inconvenience.

EDIT: so the network util is actually saying "wireless disabled by hardware switch". Also noticed it I enable it in 9.10, reboot to 11.04 (where I inevitably fail to re-enable it), then reboot into 9.10, it will initially be disabled. The key difference is in 9.10 I have the ability to enable wifi using the hardware button. It seems that 11.04 is remembering that wireless is disabled between boots. Is there a place it might be storing this value? If so, I may be able simply to set the value as enabled, since toggling that silly button isn't working.

I'm currently trying to set up the extra buttons on my Tablet PC and I can't find a way how to get a working button code to show up. I have used the xev command and it doesn't show up anything when I press the buttons. When I tried the dmesg command I get this:

My wireless can connect to my router without a problem, but in order to do so (after boot) I must first disable networking in the Notification Area and then re-enable it. I don't mind it too much, but when other people use my computer, it's made painfully obvious to me, that this was never an issue with Windows 7 (as much as I despise MS).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got ubuntu working fine on my netbook and wanted to play around with opensuse. I have it installed and everything works fine except my wireless connection. I have updated everything since the installation through a wired connection, that didn't help. I have read the stickies, but to be honest, I'm so new to this stuff I'm kinda lost. So my wireless network has a WEP encryption and I have entered that password as a 64 HEX Key in the Wireless Manager widget. It connects to the network and says is labeled as active, however there is still the yellow exclamation shield next to the connection. Firefox and other apps don't have access to the internet.
