I'm currently trying to set up the extra buttons on my Tablet PC and I can't find a way how to get a working button code to show up. I have used the xev command and it doesn't show up anything when I press the buttons. When I tried the dmesg command I get this:

I know how to make another button act as the middle button but how can I map several mouse buttons to the middle button? xmodmap complains if I repeat button numbers in the pointer option.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the keyboard: HP 6511-SU and it has a lot of buttons that would be useful to me; however, Ubuntu does not even recognize and does absolutely nothing with the majority of the buttons it has. The ones that it does pick up, it is mapped incorrectly (ex.: the media button, "stop" would be mapped to "eject". That's easily corrected by remapping it by going to System> Preferences> Keyboard Shortcuts. Is there a program or configuration file that will map the unrecognized buttons?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 11.04 and I moved the maximize, minimize and close buttons to the right corner using gconf-editor besides that, I added the menu button to the left corner that's the one which is causing problems.
Whenever I click it, all window decorations (meaning borders) disappear.
I end up with two options, either logging out and back into ubuntu, what restarts all programs (as well as compiz as far as I understand) and the problem is gone (at least temporarily) the other nonpermanent fix is to disable and reenable window decorations in the compizconfig settings manager, the result of that action is not really a fix, since it leaves my top panel (which is usually transparent) completely scrambled
Had a power outage , when I restarted the pc the tool bar came up empty. No menu button or default icons. How can I repair this ?

To be honest, I don't even remember how I did it last time, and all of the stuff I've read so far regarding compiling just give me an error:

I installed Ubuntu today, and to my great pleasure i found that my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet worked as perfectly as when the windows driver is freshly installed. Unfortunately, i installed no driver, and therefore can find no way to configure my tablet.
What i need configured is the tablet proportion (i have two screens, so the mouse moves too fast in the X direction compared to the Y direction) and what the pen buttons do in different programs. The wrong button is currently right click.
I have a wacom graphire3 tablet and two monitors. The tablet is workin properly with out of the box drivers.
As well as the dual monitors configured as twinview through Nvidia X server. But the tablet is mapped for the two screens, then I searched the forums for a proper configuration and it it tells me to edit the xorg.conf file for twinview horizontal but, it don't make any difference. I've "sudo gedit" edited the xorg.conf and nothing happens. Nothing, the tablet is working properly, the system is stable and it's still mapped for two screens.
What can I do? The xorg.conf also isn't listing all my hardware, I can't see the confs for my mouse. I'm on karmic koala.
I have a Logitech ambidextrous trackball, with a left and right mouse button. The trackball device also has two smaller left and right buttons. I'd like to know how those two smaller buttons are addressed. Ultimately, I'd like to assign certain keystrokes to them, to make work faster. For example, ALT+<right arrow> moves a browser back one page. how to name these keys, or whether/how I should address this USB mouse. FWIW, I'm actually using it through the PS/2 mouse adapter, since that doesn't take a USB slot.

It has a very toucht third button under the scroll wheel. Apperently this button is to paste, but every time i scroll, it makes my life miserable, especially when im reading a lengthy page in firefox. I cannot figure out how to program the buttons. Ive googled, and seen some programs that MIGHT help. but this seems to be something that is built in to the OS. The mouse yast plugin doesnt give you the choice of shuting off the third button, or even reassigning it. I want the paste functionality GONE from my **** mouse
View 4 Replies View RelatedI m on ubuntu 10.04 and have a Trust tb 4200 tablet.. and having problems with my trust tablet runing on ubuntu.. i pluged in the tablet and to my amaze it started working right away until i pressed the pen on the tablet.. i cant seem to move the mouse curser anymore unless i touch the pen on the tablet. (wich acts as a click) so i thought that i may be missing the drivers.. i checked thes forum and there was a post to install the aptek drivers which i did (but still worked the same) and i found out thet there was no 10-aiptek.fdi (in "/etc/hal/fdi/policy/") so i created one and copied one from a post.. in [url]...3&postcount=50 but still cant move the courser without touching.. its like if it did no diference at all.. i also changed the values in the 10-aiptek.fdi with no changes.. the size of the tablet is just the size of the screen so i am using the full tablet.. and no buttons work...
I think the drivers are not workin.. in the synaptic it shows as intalled...

I have noticed they sell digital writing tablets that have the ability to show the pen strokes both on the tablet's display and on the computer's monitor at the same time, and I think they are called LCD digital tablets and they serve as both a second computer monitor AND a writing tablet combined in one, such as the Wacom Cintiq, and must be connected both by USB as well as with a VGA/DVI port, and you have the ability to open up a drawing application directly from the tablet such as Paint where you can draw or write on the tablet's display. And you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. Then you save the results to a JPEG file, for example.
But I do not want a digtal tablet quite as elaborate as that. I am looking for something similar to the credit card terminals used in stores where you can sign your name directly on the display after swiping your credit card, and you can see what you are writing as you write. Then your signature shows up on a paper receipt later. Do they make digital tablets like that for the home user, and if they do, would they have to hook up to the VGA/DVI port on your video card? What are they called and where can I get one?
I've searched several online stores but they do not say if you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. I already have a Wacom tablet in Linux but you can not see what you are writing on the tablet. I have to keep looking up at my computer's monitor to see what I am writing and proficiency is reduced as a result. And again, I do not want a tablet as elaborate as I described in my first paragraph. I want something simplier, such as the type used at a credit card terminal.
I disabled pulse audio in favor of just working with jack, alsa_in & alsa_out and everything works pretty well except for one thing.
When I enable pulseaudio I can control the volume with my multimedia keys, volume up, volume down, mute.
If I kill pulseaudio not only do I not have volume controls but the little widget in the top bar seems to be broken.
I looked in my /etc/acpi/ folder and see these files relating to volume

nothing comes up for those keys, the terminal cursor just blinks.
also one more thing, those keys are set to shortcuts in the settings->keyboard->shortcut menu.
I can control my device with the amixer so I would like to just bind amixers functions to the keys but I don't really know how to go about doing that.
How can I bind amixers commands with those keys?

Omnipen OP-906 (ancient mid-90's device). It came with floppy with drivers for Windows 3.11 and old Mac Plugs into ttyS0 (com1. It has "tablet mode" and "mouse mode". It is meant to always start in "tablet mode", but if I give it a small power interruption (take out the AC plug from the wall halfway and quickly plug it back in), it sometimes kicks into "mouse mode". This causes untold frustration since I flip amongst numerous computers with Windows windows and other levels of UBUNTU windows. is there some way to configure where the window close button is (some way to put it back in the upper right corner)?
View 5 Replies View Relatedhow to possible to configure the buttons on my scanner (HP Scanjet 3300C - it's an old one) to actually perform the tasks they're intended to do. The scanner itself works absolutely perfect despite its age (over a decade old).. however it has two physical buttons with a scanner and a printer icon on it. Now I don't particularly care much for the scan button, but it would be awesome if the print button automatically send whatever it's scanning to the printer as soon as it's done.
The only two things I could find that seem to be written with the idea to fulfill this role are KScannerButtons and scanbuttond. Both haven't received an update in years (2006 and 2007) and only seem to be good for spitting out an error. I also tried installing hp-lib, but it doesn't even recognize the printer (I'm guessing HP doesn't support hardware that old). Not sure if it would get me further even it was recognized.
So I have a intel wifi link 5100 , the drivers should work BUT iwconfig doesn't show my card ..
However doing a ' sudo lshw -C network ' command , it DOES show my wireless card is recognised but not enabled and here is where the problems start ..

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter a couple of months of not using the dektop it warned me to check/correct some issue with the HDD, which I did. After the steps taken by the system to check the disk it went to the sign-in screen for ubuntu but it no longer recognize my password, so can't use it.
I remember that at the time when I was installing the OS it gave me a long list of alphanumeric characters which I would need in case of login problems in the future but I can't find where I wrote that string of chrs.. I deal with this issue by using the livecd from where I installed the OS or I do indeed need that string?

recently my ps3 unfortunately got the YLOD and i hadn't backed up all my saved files prior to that. Yesterday i tried to connect the ps3 hard drive to the computer to see if i could access and possibly copy the files, despite people saying it isn't possible. The thing is when i connect it the drive doesn't come up in 'Computer,' however it is shown in disk utility. From memory it also says 'unrecognized or unknown' underneath.
