We have a small group of linux servers, currently with local logins. I want to eliminate the local logins and authenticate against the corporate AD. I've been looking at PAM - but winbind requires each machine to be added to the AD. This becomes a pain if we create new virtual or physical servers. Is it possible to have one server authenticate directly with AD, and the other servers authenticate against this server, which defers to the one server that is registered in AD?

I was working to integrate Centos 5 and AD 2003 R2, this is my set up Windows side:
1. Install Identity Management for Unix, (Windows R2 already includes the Unix attribute not entirely necessary to install IMU, but it makes easier to configure the attributes from ADUC, when IMU is installed the Unix attributes TAB is shown in the user properties)
2. Configure the Unix attributes for every user account that will be authenticating from centos.
3. Create an user account to be used as a proxy for ldap, a regular user would be enough. Password never expires.
4. Create a computer account for every centos host; assign this computer account as pre-windows 2000 account.
5. Assign a value of 4128 to the user account control property for the computer account.

how to configure rdesktop to connect to a Windows (XP/2003) computer, but going through a Terminal Services Gateway or connecting to a Terminal Services Server through TLS/SSL? The command line options or any on-line documentation I was able to find, omits this entirely. Using the Windows Remote Desktop Client (RDP6) you can configure Terminal Services Gateway connections from the Advanced Tab. I suspect that rdesktop, gnome-rdp, tsclient et el can't do this yet as they support up to RDP5. Currently I am using a WinXP VM to accomplish this, but would like to do this natively on my Linux box.

I manage to get RHEL Authenticate to Active Directory using LDAP and Kerberos. When a user authenticate to the Unix, the Unix system will check (using Kerberos) to the AD. However I just found out that when the RHEL (LDAP) did the authentication to the AD (to ensure that the RHEL has the right permission to query the LDAP database), it uses simple bind which send the username/password unencrypted over the network.
1) Can We use Kerberos as well? for the initial authentication described above?
2) If Not possible, is there a way to encrypt the username/password in the storage (ldap.conf -because it's world readble)? I know that for tranmission I can use SSL.

The scenario is I have a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller which runs ADUC. I have created some security groups which I would like to apply to my network shares. The problem is, the majority of my network shares are based on Open Suse machines which, although are part of the domain, when trying to configure the shares using SMB, do not allow me to select the Active Directory groups. Any solution which will allow me to use ADUC security groups?

I have a squid server currently running with basic authentication. This is a must because we constantly have different people using different machines but the rules must be set per user, not per machine.
We also have a lot of users coming and going. So every time a new user comes to the office I have to manually create a user for him so he can authenticate.
Anyway.. We do not have any windows servers so no Active Directory. But I need some solution to pass the windows login to Squid.
First question: It seems I am using NTLM currently for samba as the person can map their home directories on their windows box withuot authenticating. Why can I not use it for squid?
Second question: Can I make my Centos server into an AD server?

I'm fairly new to Linux and very new to Squid and am having authentication issues! I am using Oracle Enterprise Linux (which is basically Red Hat without the branding) and wanting to use Squid Proxy Server for web access with authentication to Active Directory. I've found a number of articles about this online and all of them say to use auth program squid_ldap_conf which should be in /usr/lib/squid/. I don't have a squid directory in /usr/lib for starters and my squid binaries are in /etc/squid but there is no squid_ldap_conf in there either. I have installed the latest version of Squid (3.0) to see if that helped but I still cannot find the authorisation program.

I would like to be able to get squid or dansguardian to authenticate a user account against active directory so that a users browsing activities can be logged.
I can find lots a very useful info on how to set up ntlm_auth etc, but all of these methods produce a pop up window when the user launches the browser.
I'm posting this thread because I would like to be able to authenicate, but without a pop up window. Is there a way of automatically carrying out this authentication so that the user is unaware of it.
We've previously attempted authenticating against an NT4 PDC, but the users worked out that they could use any user account on the network, not just the user that was logged in which kinda defeated the whole idea of logging the users activity.
My current setup is:
Windows 2003 AD
Windows XP Clients, soon to be converted to windows 7.
Fedora 11 running squid and dansguardian.

I am using openSUSE 11.2 with active directory for authentication. I configured it using the Window Domain Membership YaST2 module and I can login successfully (although unreliably). The problem is that I need the UID and GID of the users on my computer to match the UID and GID assigned by Active Directory. Currently it just assigns UIDs and GIDs starting at 10000, which is completely different than the UID and GID used by Active Directory and by other Linux computer runs by the school (those use CentOS). Does anyone know how to get my openSUSE computer to assign UIDs and GIDs from Active Directory?

First, I'm extremely green with linux. I'm trying to configure my CentOS 5.2 box to authenticate my SSH users with my Active Directory. What would be the best way to go about doing that? I've configured Winbind and joined it the the domain but I'm not able to login locally or SSH with an AD account. I'm not sure where to go from here. Also my users will not be accessing any file shares on this box, SSH only.

It looks like this: Published 93.159.XX.XX IP address the router and all traffic directed to the internal LAN IP 10.0.1.210. Customers who will combine the different platforms are Mac OS, Linux, Windows XP, 7, Vista. The whole domain is for Windows 2008. Uploader authLDAP module, but I still can not connect, that is, not after entering the username and password from the W2K8 domain does not log

This is the scenario: Active Directory Server = 192.168.0.1 Squid/Dansguardian Proxy Server w/NTLM Auth = 192.168.0.10 The Linux box has been integrated with AD and works fine. Users can authenticate automatically when login the AD or when they access the web through Basic authentication. That part is just fine.
But, when I add a new user, or change a users' primary group, I have to change the 'filtergroups' file in Dansguardian. I tried to make auto this process using the USERMAP and USERMAP2 scripts in [URL].. at the "Extras and Add Ons" section, but both scripts doesn't run properly in Ubuntu if they are not changed. I tried, following the instructions, but got a lot of syntax errors. So, I wrote a very simple script using 'net rpc' to retrieve all users according to the AD Security and Domain Groups. I created an output folder in dansguardian to dump the rpc outputs into files. And read the files to apply filtering groups.

I've been looking for alternatives to Active Directory with Centos mainly SAMBA and OpenLDAP. I have worked with SAMBA and I know I can create a PDC and make clients join a domain but how about enforcing Group Policy?... is this possible with SAMBA or OpenLDAP/LDAP?
