I'm running fedora 10 with enabled desktop effects on an ati card. It seems to have included an effect similar to OS Xs active corners and expose where the top right corner gives me an overview of every window. I have ccsm installed and tried to disable every feature enabled but it doesn't seem to come from there.

Is it possible to map the same "Present Windows - All Desktops" action which is invoked by activating the top left corner of active screens via a keyboard shortcut? I basically want to ape OSX and have an expose-like button, the screen edge works fine for now, but I would love a keyboard shortcut also. Is it possible? Also, when I set up a custom keyboard shortcut to run yast, I initially tried using the same command from the KDE menu: /usr/bin/xdg-su -c /sbin/yast2
However, when I use the keyboard shortcut to launch this command, I get problems when trying to use zypper after the initial launch using the keyboard shortcut(from yast GUI or CLI). The error basically states another instance of yast2 already exists. The problem is only with the app/repo management modules though; for instance I can launch yast (using keyboard shortcut or start menu) and access hardware info, sudo users etc, I just can't access software/repo management stuff. Even when I kill the offending PID from the CLI I still get the error and have to restart the box to rectify it proper. So I changed the keyboard shortcut command to : /usr/bin/kdesu /sbin/yast2
and this seems to have resolved the problem. My second question is what is the difference between the two in this particular instance and why does one cause problems (xdg-su) and the other does not (kdesu).
is there a way to have gnome open in the upper right or left corner instead of the lower left corner when i start it?

1. It shows root@localhost kostia, but during the installation of Fedora 13 DVD x86 I renamed localhost.localdomain into baikal as my laptop name. Very strange error. On static PC I used amour name and it works without localhost.
2. Above you can see my list of initial cards. I wish to know where is it my ethernet card? The bug #2 is that after Fedora was installed, I can't see any connections in my Network Manager. So I created Wired one myself. After that I still can't see the icon in the top-right corner to restart the connection as usually we may do that. So, what is wrong? I just installed Fedora and all works great but i have a little problem. When I move the mouse to the right bottom corner, the cursor freeze a couple of seconds, and after that any problems. For some reason the mouse curser starts out in the middle of the screen after booting as normal but as soon as i move it, it gets stuck in the top left corner of the screen.It still responds to clicks and i can sometimes see it "wants" to move but itets repositioned into that corner.he problem exists in the live-cd session as well as in the installed session.I looked into the Xorg.0.log file and it said something along the lines of:Code:HID XXXX:XXXX: failed to initialize for relative axesI suspect this to be the culprit, yet i've never had any problems with the mouse in any other operating system (writing from kubuntu 9.10 right now) and i've used most of the popular ones.Is there anything i can do about it? View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally got around to installing Fedora 15 on my HTPC. I noticed that the mouse cursor starts in the upper left corner of the screen as soon as the login screen appears. This means that after login, if I only used the keyboard so far, the Gnome Shell overlay starts immediately.This is at most an interesting quirk until I try to set XMBC to automatically launch. Now I have to press <Esc> or move the mouse to de-activate the overlay before I can use the program.Is this mouse cursor thing intended behaviour, is there some software fix, or is it a hardware quirk? View 2 Replies View RelatedI might get harassed for making this windows/linux comparison, but i'm seriously wondering why i cant find any application that can display a quick little notification on the bottom right hand corner of my screen whenever there's some intrusion attempt.
For example, sometimes I can see that in my /etc/logs/secure (or something like that) there's someone who's trying to attempt to connect to me using random usernames/passwords from different servers. The only time I know this has happened is when i actually open the file with gedit. Is there anything like (norton for windows) that can display little notifications (with or without eye candy)??

I am having a hard time recreating the actual steps that he took. boot the computer and "Missing Operating System" message in upper left corner of screen. Not good, I think. I insert the Max OS X install disk and boot holding the "c" key so the system boots from the CD. Instead of installing, there is a disk utility tool from the pull-down. It shows the system hard-drive and the CD/DVD drive. So far so good. When I look closer at the hard drive, there appears to be a single Linux partitiion. No Mac OS partition. I know enough about computers to know that if the Mac OS disk partition is not visible, there' s probably no easy way to retrieve the 1.5 years worth of family pictures, applications, website I had built, etc. My "best guess" is that somewhere along the way, when he tried to install Fedora to the USB memory stick, that he inadvertantly attempted to install it to the hard drive. best route to recovery?

When I click on icon, it tries to connect and then shows status still as inactive. Where as my internet works in Win XP. What do I do for making it active. Second, when I try to install xDSL package for my BSNL broadband, the package is not available. Where do I get this package?
