I'm working on setting up access for our developer via Telnet, we are on a local network behind a physical firewall. I set up the standard Telnet service for Fedora15 and from localhost I can login via any user and root.... However I cannot login from another terminal on the LAN, even though I can ping and FTP to the fedora15 box. I added the firewall rules for telnet, that did not work, so I disabled the firewall, still cannot get a connection via port 25. I feel either port 25 is closed in another manor or the telnet is restricted to the localhost.
Also I cannot login to root to configure the Firewall Desktop GUI, only standard users, is this an issue? I also cannot login to the console as root even though I use the correct password.I can only su to root and sometimes it is a PITA. There must be some settings to clear these issues up...
I'm running wordpress and have gone to the painstaking effort of setting up the ftp server on my 5.3 machine so it can do its own updates and download plugins. However, I've found that if I try to download anything, I get a "unable to resolve host..." error from the script. If I watch Iptraf while making the request, I see all the port 53 requests going to 127.0.0.1. Pings are too.
However, if I ssh in, I can ping and wget and whatever I want all day long and all the DNS requests to go the router (Clarkconnect 3.2 gateway machine). The web browser in the terminal works fine too. What is it about the php scripts that is causing them to misdirect pings and dns requests? I've never seen anything like it and can't find anything on the web about it either.

I have installed VirtualBox on a MacBook and installed RHEL6 on a guest server ("Orion") in VirtualBox. I am trying to follow the tutorial at xenocafe on Apache Web Server Tutorial for Linux. I've checked a few other websites for port forwarding, and have used VBoxManage to set
Apache/GuestPort" 80
Apache/HostPort" 8888
Apache/Protocol" TCP
[code]...
I am able to ssh into the Virtual Box guest server using:
$ ssh -l rmt1 -p 2222 localhost
I believe this means that the port forwarding works. I am able to start and stop httpd on the guest with no warnings. I retired a problem with DocumentRoot by setting SELinus to disabled. My trouble is that: When I bring up a browser on the host and try localhost 8888 and expect to see my sample html page housed on the guest server (located under root / www), what I get is a spinning wheel.
And when I bring up a browser on the guest and try localhost 80 and expect to see the sample page I made, what I get is the well-known Apache test page. I am stuck in knowing (1) how to cause port 80 output from the guest to be interpreted by the host browser searching port 8888 (Or, Why does ssh into the guest work but http out of the guest not work), and, (2) how to arbitrarily determine the location of what the very first webpage is that will be loaded.
I've just upgraded my laptop to Fedora 14 and installed LAMP on it for a test environment. I've followed the official instructions to install but seem to have a problem that I didn't have on F13 or Opensuse. Each time I try to access index.php on localhost I get a permission denied message and an SElinux alert. I have tried 7 different solutions on various forums and just can't view anything in a browser.
/var/www/html has been set to chmod 777
/var/www/html/index.php has also been set to chmod 777
A standard user can definitely read and write to the above files/folder. Until I commented it out the Welcome/Test page was working perfectly.
I know what I need to do I just cant seem to achieve it and that is correctly setup a DNS server that works over the internet, I'm using BIND9 with webmin. I have Fedora 14 - Apache is install its all working locally, so this final step I just can't grasp to be honest.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 2 web server in my office : http and https. You will find attached the httpd.conf and ssl.conf. I can acces the https server from home, but not the http one.
What I did :
configure the router to forward port 80 to my fedora 11 machine
open port 80 with system-config-network
created a virtualhost
The same exact steps have been done for port 443
I can access both server locally but only the https server remotelly.
Here are my iptables :
Code:
you can try to acces my servers using [url]
I made httpd to listen to port 8080, and done all the port forwarding/opening stuf, and it works. so is it a bug ?
Finally found my error seams like turning off UseCanonicalName to off did the trick
I really think it's a bug now. It was definitively working last week, I just added content to the main host of my website, and now i can't acces it from port 80. If someone think it's not a bug or find someting missing/wrong in my conf file.
if I should ask this in the server section. But since I use the desktop version of Ubuntu I will ask here. Basically my server is going on pension. Hardware is outdated and all that. Since it's main job was serving me with MySql databases with web interfaces I sommer want to shift all of that over to my desktop and run my databases on the desktop. It's only me that access it so don't see why I can't run it localhost.
My question is. The three main things I need, apache, Mysql and php, are they in the repositories in Synaptec ? If not how hard will the install and config of those three apps be on Ubuntu Desktop? (I've always used Fedora as server with everything build-in so have no experience of installing mysql, apache and php from scratch)
I have Apache2 running on my server and can serve up pages on that box, but cannot seem to access them from other PCs on the network.

I have just installed Apache and I am pointing my browser to:
http://192.168.0.100
but I am getting the error message that the server is taking too long to respond.
I've installed apache2 on ubuntu 10.04 and everything works fine, but when I use functions that needs to connect to Internet, it doesn't work. Is there a simple setup I've forgot? I've been searching and looking for a solution, but I'm stuck!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have setup a Linux Centos with apache server on it in a home network. Everything works fine. When I access the webserver I put in the address bar the IP address of the server which is 192.168.0.150 and when hit enter, it prompts the page where I have to put login information. The login information is set to: username: admin@localhost.local password: *************
It takes long time for authentication go through and load the page eventhough I am accessing the site in a same home local area network with fast ethernet connection. How can I change the localhost.local to something else like maybe [URL] instead and if I have to change settings in other files as well?
i am trying to use a local DNS service (unbound), and for that, i want each connection (eth0, wlan0) to first use localhost as DNS (127.0.0.1) and then try the DNSs it gets from the DHCP. this is a laptop so it is not just setting it for a single connection but a system default.
i looked and searched and there does not seem to be a straightforward way of doing it. i am usign gnome with networkmanager, and setting the method as "get IP only" is not suitable, as it omits the DHCP-provided DNSs, and also cannot be set as the default method.
I'm having problems with NX, it's doing strange things, trying to connect to some IP host in timbuktoo because my DNS provider's DNS sucks AND because NX is looking up the host "localhost" without first consulting my hosts file (which nsswitch explicitly tells it to do). THAT's all beside the point.
To work around this apparent bug in NX I tried creating an iptables rule to redirect traffic destin for a certain IP (10.x.x.x) to localhost (127.0.0.1) with the following rule: iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -d 10.x.x.x -j DNAT --to 127.0.0.1. After adding the above rule, my attempts to connect to that host continued to get routed right off into the internet where I DIDN't want them to go. Instead of being redirected to the localhost/loopback address.
It seems DNAT to localhost is not supported? A Google search reveals many other people having this issue but blaming it on everything but iptables. I'm proposing that it's not supported, by design or not, to redirect traffic from a NIC to the loopback network?
I am planning on installing an Apache server today. I know how to get it to point to addresses like "localhost" or my outside ip, but how do I get it to point to a URL like [URL]? (That's just an example URL)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded and installed Apache, mySQL and PHP via YAST. The web server is up and running and I am able to create and modify databases in phpMyAdmin. What's strange is that I am working on some other websites which use php includes to deliver my stylesheets, scripts etc. However, these includes do not work. I can view my website but all I see is the output from the html within the php file. Anything that is being delivered through includes does not display or run so all my content is unstyled.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI used the following guides to try and get my Netgear WG511 PCMCIA card going:
[URL]
I also made a post about it here: [URL]. As the problem doesn't appear to be ndiswrapper itself I've made this separate post.
Unfortunately, I still end up having wlan0 attempting to connect, prompting for my password, trying to connect then prompting for my password (ad infinitum).
I changed my network security from WPA to WEP and now my card works fine. why this might be happening (i.e. why WEP works but WPA doesn't?)
I have a now pretty old PC, I think it is 400 Mhz Pentium II, on which I installed a Linksys WMP54G 802.11g PCI card, and on which I wanted to run Fedora 10, but I can't get the wlan card working. As I had a vague memory of having it seen working before, I reverted to Fedora 9, and it worked, at least before I made an update of it. So I took a closer look at it, and besides finding out that there is nothing wrong with my PC and the WLAN card, I also found some oddities. My feeling is that the configuration settings in Network Configuration window seems a bit unrelated to the behavior of the system. Here is a summary of what I found:
1) The WMP54G/RaLink does neither work rightly after installation of Fedora-10-i386, and nor after updating it.
2) The WMP54G/RaLink device worked rightly after installation of Fedora-9-i386, but not after updating it.
3) It seems strange to me that there is no wlan0 entry in the Network Configuration window, neither for fc9 nor for fc10. (There is an eth0 entry though.) It feels even stranger that the systems connects anyway over wireless, even though there is no wlan0 entry, both for fc9 and fc10.
4) After having manually added wlan0 in Network Configuration window, it seems strange to me that the system tries to connect via wlan0, e.g. after a restart and login even though nothing is checked in the Wireless Device Configuration window for wlan0. (I believe this oddity is valid for eth0 too).
5) For Fedora 10, I get prompted to save the network configuration even in the case nothing has been changed.
Yes, another newbie question. Just loaded and updated FC 10. Everything works great with dhcp. Tried to setup static ip to learn more about how to set it up and nothing seems to work. I'm connected to DSL via a router when I ifconfig I get:(basic stuff)inet addr: 192.168.1.7 Bcast: 192.168.1.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
I have also tried default gateway 192.168.1.255 and 192.168.1.254.Most of what I have tried above has come from linux websites and faq's.Keeping in mind I am worst than any new newbie you have ever worked with
I have an auxillary laptop that I use with Fedora 9 on it. Up until now, I have been using wireless just fine with a an old Marvell card. A friend needed a wireless card, so I gave it to her because I had a spare Belkin card (PCMIA) with a RT2500 chipset. This chipset has been supported in Fedora for a long time, and it does it fact work but it will not obtain an IP address and disconnects from the Network Manager upon every attempt to connect.. I get an error that says "set bit rate" failed and I cannot get assigned an IP address from my router.
I do not use encryption. Nothing I have tried with sysconfig-network has had any affect.
iwlist scan finds the router just fine with a good signal, but will not connect.
Since I installed FC11 I can't get vpnc to work (I always getno response from target").Also I can't ping any external IP even with the firewall disabled. What I see strange is that I had the same configuration in FC10 and the router configuration seems okay to me:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
10.64.64.64 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0

I'm pulling my hair out to figure out what's gone wrong. I have a small home network with a router and 4 computers, 3 linux boxes and 1 windoze machine. The windoze machine and 2 of the linux boxes (newer ones, one with FC11 and the other with Ubuntu Hardy) are using the router's "Set Static IP" option just fine. However an older FC5 machine I have always gets its IP assigned randomly. As this is the machine I ssh into from overseas via a Dynamic DNS, this is a huge frustration when the power goes off or I need to restart the machine. It's usually 192.168.0.2 but sometimes 192.168.0.3 and occasionally other numbers as well. It _should_ be 192.168.0.130. As near as I can tell, I'm doing everything the same between the machines. The router config is very simple and works for the other systems so I suspect I may have a legacy tweak that I did years ago that's causing the problem.
Anyone know what I can try? I'm afraid I'm not a networking guru (ahem, wouldn't be posting if I were!) so things like "check the this" will be more helpful if there's a clear example. "Check the this...emacs /etc/thisfile/config" and see if XYZ option is TRUE" is far more useful. Again, many thanks. If none of the systems were working right then it would be totally different...but 3 seem to work just fine and happily get their assigned static IPs. It's the one non-conformist that's the trouble...
I'm running Telnet Server, VFTP, and VNC on a Fedora 14 box. The box's internal IP is 192.168.1.222 This machine is configured to live in the DMZ, The firewall is up on both the router and this box. I can remote in from home using our external IP. I can FTP. I can Telnet. All using our external IP. When i'm in the office, i can remote in using our external IP. I can FTP. I can Telnet. Again, all with the external IP. If i attempt to telnet 192.168.1.222 i get a connection refused. i can ping the 192.168 address
nmap tells me that all 1000 ports on 192.168.1.222 are closed
nmap tells me that my expected ports are open on the external IP.
.... This is a relatively new conundrum as it "used to work", and only appears not to since our last reboot (power outage). I know i have to be missing something simple here, but i differ to the experts.
I'm currently on F11, and experienced problems with Network Manager. Whenever I to connect to a network, wired or wireless, it just seems to try to connect, and then after 2-3 seconds, it just reports "Disconnected"..
Then I switched to network, and both wired and wireless works. so I don't think there is any driver or hardware issue...
Does anyone have any idea of this problem? The network manager have worked on the live CD version ( before installed to HD).
I have a Fedora 12 box, which works absolutely fine in a fastweb wlan. However, if I connect to another wlan where I need to link to a wireless access point cabled to the ISP modem/router, networkmanager shows the connection is ok, but...
1) I only can browse internet (es:www.google.it) for a few seconds after the connection is established, thanfirefox goes "Impossible to reach the server"
2) the same behaviour is confirmed by ping
Code:
[Adriano@localhost ~]$ ping www.google.it
PING www.l.google.com (209.85.135.106) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from mu-in-f106.1e100.net (209.85.135.106): icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=138 ms
64 bytes from mu-in-f106.1e100.net (209.85.135.106): icmp_seq=2 ttl=49 time=127 ms
[code]....
EDIT: There is a win box in the same net that is working fine.I see in the router config that ARP for the working machine is "complete", while for the Fedora one is "incomplete" Nothing changes configuring a static or dynamic IP address for the Fedora box I had a previous Fedora 11 installation on the same machine that now gives troubles, and it worked fine. But I can't tell if it's a software problem because my ISP seems to have telnet-ed the router, changing it's firmware (and maybe it's config). Shame on they.
I place the key in the wireless key section but the activate (ok) button is greyed out. Sorry can't give a screen shot because I am using my Win 7 boot at time. Oh yeah I am using Fedora 12 x64 on my laptop.
