I've used it prior to my 10.10 upgrade, so I was very surprised to learn it doesn't support Mozilla Thunderbird email client, which I've been using on every Ubuntu version since I started with the 9.0x series.
Does any body know how to get around this? According to the Software center, Thunderbird is available for installation, but the install fails saying (no surprises!!) "Requires installation of untrusted packages"

With this advice by my AR5001 card can finally be detected by other devices. I can connect to it with my girlfriend`s net-book with XP, but I still can`t share internet. May be I miss something. View 5 Replies View RelatedWell, after installing the 64-bit RTM release of Windows 7, I finally became too fed up to stand it anymore. My BIOS does not recognize more than 3 GBs of RAM and therefore even my 64-bit Operating Systems (Windows 7 and Fedora 11) can't see or use the extra gig. Is there any way to get another BIOS or to add the support to my existing BIOS?
Oh, before I forget, I am using an Acer Aspire 5630 incase the model is required.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe adapter I purchased (Zonet ZEW2508 ) uses the Ralink 2070 chipset - a fact that originally excited me because Ralink seems to be fairly loving to the Linux community. However, despite my best efforts I can't get the thing to work. Initially I tried following directions to set up the driver you can download from the Ralink website. The directions I found were written February first, and Ralink updated the driver February eighth - so as far as I can tell the directions no longer work. After screwing around trying to figure that out for a while I decided to give ndiswrapper a go.
Initially this seemed promising. I just harvested the drivers from the CD and followed one of the many ndiswrapper directions available - most helpful seemed initially to be the Ndiswrapper Troubleshooting Guide found in this forum, however the solutions offered there didn't work either. When I throw an ndiswrapper -l into the terminal it looks promising at first, it tells me the driver is installed and the device is present, but it just doesn't work. When I try iwconfig, or iwlist scan it tells me "no wireless extensions," and "interface doesn't support scanning" respectively. The only devices even listed are lo, eth0, and pan0. There's no wlan0 or anything of the sort.
I am a newby in linux. i wanted to install lampp (xampp) but it gaves me an error that the operating system doesn't support 32 bit. I am using at this moment Fedora 12 x86_64.
I looked in another thread and they sad that i need to run yum whatprovides missing_lib_name but it don't show anything is there another way to get 32 bit support in linux because i really need xampp.
First off, let me say: I'm a long time Linux hobbyist and recently installed Fedora 12. I've been looking (some say "lurking") around these forums for a bit after I loaded it up and let me say: Leigh, You're an amazing young man! Keep up the great work! I've a question: I've just put together a hobby computer: Pentuim 4, with 1 Gig of RAM and a Nvidia Geforce5700LE. When I install Fedora from a fresh install, everything works great: nice screen resolution, good graphics, etc. but no 3d or acceleration, so I'm very limited on my programs.
So I decided I need to upgrade my Nvidia driver. I followed Leigh's Nvidia setup guide after installing Fedora 12 (all four steps!) everything seemed to go fine, but when I reboot, I quickly see the Nvidia splash screen, but the screen then goes blank. Well, not really blank, I can see what appears to be a kind of cross-hatch pattern, plus I can see what should be my mouse cursor on screen (it also is a square shaped pattern). I suspect it may be at a screen resolution that my monitor doesn't support. Once there, the computer pretty much doesn't do anything else. Usually I can break into the x driver loading and go to the command prompt, but this latest time I can't even do that.
This is my first Ubuntu installation, and I sure like its efficiency and speed.
But I can't get access to my Comcast email no matter what I try. I've spent 3 days on this, reading everything I can find, trying all kinds of "solutions," all to no avail.
Comcast email doesn't work, either through Smartzone webmail, or using an email program like Thunderbird or Evolution. All other email (Yahoo, Google) works fine. But not Comcast.
I have managed to get Thunderbird to send emails, but neither it nor anything else receives emails. Using Thunderbird: when trying to login to receive emails with Thunderbird, I get "Host Contacted, sending login information" and then after an extended delay get an error message: "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded: invalid username/password".
However, my username and password that I'm entering are correct (they work with a Windows computer and Thunderbird Windows).
I've tried every combination of setup settings suggested by Comcast, and by others (there are lots of combinations), and nothing works.
With SmartZone, I get the login screen and can enter my username and password, but then the screen just freezes with a blank. I've tried clearing cache, cookies, you name it, and it still doesn't work.
I would like to try tvtime on my Dell PC, bu I do not understand how to use the encrypted signal from comcast cable. I realize I will need to purchase a tv capture card. What is the best one for a Intel Core I3? Is there a USB version that will work?My TV is hooked to a TIVO HD box that has a comcast cable card. Is the signal decrypted by the cable card and then is it just necessary to obtain the decrypted signal from the TIVO output?

View 2 Replies View Relatedso my Evolution worked fine. I was able to send and receive messages. THen I switched my ISP from a local provider to Comcast. I did nothing to Evolution and now it won't send my emails. I still receive stuff fine. I am using GMail's SMTP server.

I don't see anyplace to include the port number like I could in Thunderbird so I have no idea what port I am using but the thing that is curious is that it doesn't work on Comcast when it did on both my local provider and Sprint's mobile broadband.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning FC14 64 bit with KDE. I have an atheros wireless card that was working fine for months. Just recently I downloaded and installed some updates I got automatically. After a reboot, I have suddenly lost my wireless connection. I am still able to connect to unsecured networks but my network uses WPA and the status of the connection always freezes on "Awaiting Authentication". When connecting, it pops up the secrets windows asking for the wpa key even though its already entered. I've reset my home router several times to test various configurations with no encryption and with WPA. My key is correct but it will not connect. I've researched this issue and found others to have the same problem though their fixes have not worked for me.
I've gone through a few things. Wireless radio button on, networking and wireless enabled in fedora. Card still shown in lspci and with iwconfig. Funny enough, there was no wireless card listed in Network Manager. So I added the connection again and set it to be controlled by network manager and start on boot. No difference.
I'm wondering exactly what was updated that caused this. I didn't pay attention to what updates they were. This update occurred 3/5/2011. I've tried booting to the two previous backup kernels, but that doesnt help either. Also ran dmesg | grep wlan0 to find that the device was not active or ready but I could still connect to unsecured networks. So I'm stumped and would really rather not reinstall. Besides, when I get the updates again, it will probably do the same thing. Is this a bug? I would post more information but I am not with my box at the moment.
When I try to create a network tunnel, I get ioctl: no such device returned by the terminal. Which modules do I need to ad with insmod to enable tunneling?

All of the information I've come across so far said that you can NOT create a bridge using a wireless interface, and that Network Manager doesn't support bridging, but this info was also from Fedora 12 and below, so I don't know if it's still relevant for Fedora 15. I would certainly hope that by now you can make a bridge from a wireless interface. Even the lowly VMware Player offers this option.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy work uses a proxy server to mediate connections to the internet. However, changing the proxy settings in NetworkManager seems to have no effect. When I change the proxy settings in firefox from "use system proxy" to the actual proxy settings then it connects fine - but I would much rather be able to change the system proxy so that it works with all applications.
This is not confined to firefox - I have the same problem trying to use wget in gnome shell. However ftp works fine. I have just looked at the environment variables and it appears that NetworkManager is not setting the http_proxy variable (it is however setting ftp_proxy and https_proxy).
7.2 Home Network Gateway. Has anyone used this gateway and will it support both desktop and laptop I ask this question because I use my desktop at home and when traveling the laptop. The desktop has Fedora and the laptop has cut my tounge out vista.

It took me a little bit to figure out where the firefox plugins folder was, because everything I read said in "/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/" Well in "/usr/lib/" there was about 6 or 7 folders, nothing else. I finally realized everything was in /usr/lib64.
Now my second problem, the flash player plugin I downloaded directly from Adobe didn't work. Well a few searches fixed this, and I found a link to the 64-bit plugin at SlackBuild [url] Now I have a couple of questions. First off, Is there any resource that would help me find out exactly what the security risks that SlackBuild claims exist in the x86_64 edition of flashplayer are, so that I can take proper precautions?
Adobe says that they don't currently support 64-bit and they say you can just use a 32-bit browser. I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to 64-bit and 32-bit architectures, so I would just like to read about the advantages of using a 64-bit browser over a 32-bit, and it would help me if anyone could direct me to a website or resource all about the 64-bit and 32-bit architecture stuff.
And in conclusion: The point in me posting this is I would like to decide whether I should continue using the 64-bit firefox or switch to a 32-bit version so I can use the official version of flashplayer. I have a habit of generally preferring the default installed applications because I feel they are typically chosen for the best compatibility, and otherwise I don't feel like asking what application I should use for each and every field of applications.
For now I'll install the 32-bit version and see if I notice any differences.

this is the latest yum reports as available. according to the error is would seem both 'Match' and 'ForceCommand' statements are not supported in this version of ssh? Do I have any options aside from installing from tarball from openssh.org? If I do that would that mean I could not use yum to maintain ssh on my system anymore? Not sure what to do, I have to chroot this group of users, I can't just chroot at the global config level because I need to still be able to ssh as my admin user to this box to administer it. I need the chroot'ing only for sftp purposes.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have only just got my first netbook and when I first installed 11.2 on it it would detect local networks and ask if I wanted to use any of them. Since they belonged to other people and I use a wired connection at home, I declined. I then took my netbook on travels and tried to connect to freely available networks there, but to my surprise it no longer detected them. I tried to go through YAsT and see what needs to be changed but no matter what I tried the wireless option was never offered again.
I have now come back and decided to get to the bottom of this. Here is what I get from iwlist scan:lo Interface doesn't support scanning eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.It is as if there has never been a wireless capability. Can anyone advise on what to do to fix this?
