I have got an old print server Axis 150. It does not support TCP/IP I know that there was a thread about this print server [URL].... but I didn't found answer to "how to bring it up" there.
View 5 RepliesI have an ubuntu server (9.04) that needs to share a printer (a Brother 2070N on USB). To configure cups, I had to modify cups.conf quite a bit to let me access the printer management pages, but I did get it working. I can print using the lpr command, as well as print test pages using the management interface's "Print Test Page" button from any computer on my network. However, I cannot actually set up Ubuntu, Fedora, Vista, or OSX to see the network printer, and it's driving me insane.Brother from any computer on the network I can see the specific printer management page, but no computer can actually print to the printer (other than using the "print test page" button)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

"requires installation of untrusted packages" roadblock in updating Ubuntu10.10, I downloaded and installed 10.04 LTS, hoping it would be reasonably hassle free. I've used it prior to my 10.10 upgrade, so I was very surprised to learn it doesn't support Mozilla Thunderbird email client, which I've been using on every Ubuntu version since I started with the 9.0x series.
Does any body know how to get around this? According to the Software center, Thunderbird is available for installation, but the install fails saying (no surprises!!) "Requires installation of untrusted packages"

With this advice by my AR5001 card can finally be detected by other devices. I can connect to it with my girlfriend`s net-book with XP, but I still can`t share internet. May be I miss something. The adapter I purchased (Zonet ZEW2508 ) uses the Ralink 2070 chipset - a fact that originally excited me because Ralink seems to be fairly loving to the Linux community. However, despite my best efforts I can't get the thing to work. Initially I tried following directions to set up the driver you can download from the Ralink website. The directions I found were written February first, and Ralink updated the driver February eighth - so as far as I can tell the directions no longer work. After screwing around trying to figure that out for a while I decided to give ndiswrapper a go.
Initially this seemed promising. I just harvested the drivers from the CD and followed one of the many ndiswrapper directions available - most helpful seemed initially to be the Ndiswrapper Troubleshooting Guide found in this forum, however the solutions offered there didn't work either. When I throw an ndiswrapper -l into the terminal it looks promising at first, it tells me the driver is installed and the device is present, but it just doesn't work. When I try iwconfig, or iwlist scan it tells me "no wireless extensions," and "interface doesn't support scanning" respectively. The only devices even listed are lo, eth0, and pan0. There's no wlan0 or anything of the sort.
I recently came across an old Epson DX5000 Printer/Scanner which works fine via USB.

I have a Netgear DGN2000 Wireless-N ADSL2 Router and I'm hoping I can access the Epson Printer from other PCs on my local wireless network.
I am installing Ubuntu Server 10.10 on and old Dell Laptop. The network connection is an Xircom PCMCIA card.During install, the computer sees and interacts via the network just fine. For example, I can ping the gateway. Also, the command "lspcmcia" works and show the Xircom card.When I reboot, however, there is no network access, and the "lspcmcia" command is not there. When I try "lspcmcia" the OS helpfully tells me that I can "apt-get" pcmciautils, but, without network access, that fails.I tried adding the install cdrom to apt using "apt-cdrom" and then tried to "apt-get" pcmciautils and it got further, installing some dependencies, but acted like it still was unable to locate the pcmciautils package.

I have Rechat FC4 with CUPS 1.45 and a Dlink DS-802 Print Server.
I have installed CUPS, and pointed it at the DS-802,
but no joy.
Windows already prints to the 802 via a W2k3 server, so that works fine. FC4 with CUPS seems to point at the 802 but print jobs from localhost (just go to the print queue, and there they stay.
Windows continues to function fine, but linux wont send to the 802. Also, if Windows users try to print to the CUPS shared printer, it shows "No Accesss".
I just recently bought a WinStar USB LPR Network Print Server so that I could connect my printer to my network so all the machines on my network could print, and everything would be OS independent. The problem I'm having is that I can't get CUPS to connect to the printer. It either never prints anything, saying that the printer is not connected, or saying that LPR is spooling the job, but it never completes. I've been configuring it as a network printer in CUPS, and trying all the different configuration options to no avail. The print server is located on http://192.168.1.103 and is pingable. I have an HP PSC2110 that is connected to a Linksys WPSM54G wireless print server. Printing works great, no issues what so ever. I am wondering if anyone has been able to configure the scanner to work that way as well. If I connect the PSC2210 to my laptop via USB, XSane sees the scanner and works perfectly. I am trying to figure out if there is a way for XSane to see the scanner through the Linksys PS?

I have found a number of posts on this forum, as well as on the net in general, about setting up a file/print server at home. What I want to be able to do is to access my server through the internet from my office computer (windows 2000) How can I do that? I have not yet spent much time trying to decide which distro I will use. It seems that a number of them are suitable for this purpose, so I just plan to try several from a live cd and then choose one.

In the summer a few months back, I managed to get my ancient HP Laserjet 6L printer working via a wired D-Link-DPR 1061 print server and Netgear network switch. This was even though it was not on the print server's compatibility list. A couple of months later it stopped printing and I have not been able to get it going again since.
The print server has one parallel port (used by the 6L) and a couple of USB ports which I don't use.
I have been going through the Ubuntu add printer wizard. The print server can connect via an IP address. I am using its device URI: lpd://ip address/dlk-portname
I have tried all 5 HP laserjet 6L drivers that come with Ubuntu without success. I have the foomatic/ljet4 [en] currently selected. When I try to print a test page nothing is printed and when I do a print self test I get this message:

By, the way I also have a Windows 7 PC and managed to get the 6L working with same print server using the XP drivers, but every so often it stops working. A reinstall gets it going again.
I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

I have followed the calculator sample tutorial and cannot get the the calculator client working, the problem appears on the server side. I am working on Linux, I am using:
- Axis C++: axis-c-linux-current-bin.
- Xerces (parser xml): xerces-c2_2_0-linux8.0gcc32
- Apache 2: httpd-2.0.64.

I have a Powerbook G4 1.67Ghz. My problem is that if I sleep my laptop by choosing sleep from the desktop menu in kde then it sleeps and wakes fine but when it wakes the pointer is locked to the x axis and tends to snap back to the same point when I'm not actively manipulating it. This is also the case if my laptop sleeps after 10mins inactivity. If I sleep the laptop by closing the lid this problem does not occur. When it wakes all is working well.

Clicked print and nothing happens, no error message.The same file CAN be printed using evince on the same system. I've created the pdf file using soffice so permissions is not a problem.However, the same file CAN be printed in openSUSE's Okular.If someone can confirm that I am right/wrong, then I can decide whether to file a bug report?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried to download the latest version of CUPS but do not know how to install it properly using command line commands above 'sudo' and 'sh', and I have tried to install HPLIP but it needs 'cups-devel' installed apparently. My Debian can see the 1020 clearly enough to identify it and give its status as idle, via the CUPS interface. When I try and print a Test page it goes to the spooler, says it is printing OK, but nothing prints. The job then disappears and appears on CUPS as completed. In the old days we would have sent a eof() to make the printer work. Have I got a bug in my HP Laserjet 1020 driver? Or am I missing the great plug-in that is not on the Synaptic Package Manager The SPM says I have HPLIP installed.
