Ubuntu Networking :: Pppoe Over Wireless Network?

Dec 3, 2010

I use pppoe connection over wireless network, for long time I've used console, so I didn't had any problem with it, BUT - after installing gnome, I can't connect to the wireless ISP. On my network manager I see my wireless network, I can connected to it, but when I do it, I don't see DSL connection on my menu, If I only connect cable to it, DSL connection is showing again. What should I do to see the DSL connection when only wireless is connected ?

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Setup PPPOE Connection Over Wireless

Apr 22, 2010

My adsl modem is in bridge mode. I can connect to internet via pppoe . pppoeconf recognise the pppoe in eth0 and setup a connection and I can use it. How can I setup a pppoe connection using pppoeconf so that it uses wireless ? I set the wireless mode to bridge in modem settings. But, after that the access point stopped appearing in "aps in range" in network manager and I can't connect to it. pppoeconf also doesn't recognise wlan0 as a valid pppoe link . but dat is normal since i don't think it can check if wlan0 is pppoe without wlan0 being connected to the modem's wireless network. How can I connect to Internet with modem in bridge mode and connections via wireless interface of modem? Is pppoe over wireless even possible ? coz the datalink layer of wlan is not ethernet rite?

Ubuntu Networking :: Uses PPPoE To Configure A Connection To Their Wireless Broadband?

Jun 26, 2010

I am deployed to Iraq and the Earthlink ISP here uses PPPoE to configure a connection to their wireless broadband. His english skills are pretty good and from what I gather, he's got a DSL connection that he's trying to connect me to. He showed me how he does it on a Windows machine but I can't figure it out on my ubuntu laptop. That windows machine didn't need any IP addresses or server names. It only used a username and password to connect. Of course a strong wireless signal detected was also pre-requisite.

I know my laptop works because I've had great success with it here lately, just not on the Earthlink service.I see their wireless is broadcast and I can connect to it. I just can't figure out how to post my credentials and authenticate.I don't see a way of entering my username and password because I don't know how to install (or configure) for PPPoE.I did use the pppoeconfig and got to the part where I add my username and password, but most of what's going on up to and after that, I do not have the knowledge base to use. So I figured that allowing the defaults and recommended settings would be acceptableYou'll have to forgive me if I've asked another dumb question here. I'm another one of those Linux enthusiasts who is learning and I'm just not willing to switch back to MS just to get internet while deployed.

Fedora Networking :: WiFi Does Not Seem To Find Wireless Routers

Aug 4, 2009

Every time I start up my Samsung NC10 the wifi doesn't seem to find my wireless router at all and instead tries to connect to my printers network. To solve this I need to disable and re-enable wireless until it automatically connects. I know this isn't exactly a major problem, it's just getting pretty annoying. I'm using Fedora 11 btw.

Fedora Networking :: Wireless At Run Level 3 Using Public Wifi With Lynx?

Aug 5, 2009

I have been trying to test the use of X window forwarding over SSH in a cafe. The Cafe's WiFi requires login via a web browser. Using Fedora 11 with Gnome on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop, the wireless works just fine. I am able to use a virtual terminal to ssh to my server at home. NX client/server works also. However, when I change to Run Level 3 on the Laptop in order to use X Window forwarding, wireless networking fails to function. Will wireless networking function at Run Level 3, and if so, how is that accomplished? Also, if I get Wireless to work at Run Level 3, will I be able to login to the free public wifi using Lynx or some other text browser, as I can with IE and Firefox?

Fedora Networking :: WiFi Detected But Not Connected - Wireless Just Fine

Sep 7, 2010

I've recently salvaged a computer I found gathering dust in the basement and decided I'll have it running on Fedora (I have a summer studentship coming up that needs Linux use so I thought I'd best start learning!). Following a clean install, Fedora can see the wireless network just fine. I try to connect and nothing happens. Half of the time it will ask for the PSK (yes, I promise I'm entering it correctly) and the other half of the time it will just stop. When it does ask for the PSK I enter it (correctly) and it will ask me again... and again.

Fedora Networking :: Cannot Connect To WiFi On 2.6.40 - Centrino Wireless-N 1000

Aug 9, 2011

My wireless card is:

Code:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [8086:0083]
On Fedora 15, when I boot kernel 2.6.40, my laptop is unable to connect to my wireless-G AP. dmesg shows the following:
Code:
[ 43.866090] wlan0: direct probe to 00:27:19:14:c2:ca (try 1/3)

[Code].....

It works fine, however, when I boot using kernel 2.6.38 (from which I am posting) and in Windows. Also, I found some emails from the linux-wireless mailing list which appear to be talking about the same problem.

The system is fully updated. I've tried the 11n_disable=1 hint I came across on the ThinkPad wiki, but it didn't help. (I'm on an Asus K42Ja, in case it's relevant)

Although I'm fine with staying at 2.6.38 for now, are there workarounds/fixes for this?

Fedora Networking :: FC10 - Wifi Devices To Work On 128bit WEP Network - Linksys Wireless-G And 5100AGN

Jun 20, 2009

I'm having trouble getting my wifi devices to work on my 128bit WEP network. I have a new Thinkpad T400, with an internal Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN. I also have some cardbus cards: a Lucent ORiNOCO Gold, a Linksys Wireless-G, and a TRENDnet TEW-421PC. I have them set up as interfaces eth2, eth1, and eth3. (The TRENDnet isn't recognised as a network card at all, so no interface for it.) I have installed the latest firmware for the Linksys card.

The /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files are virtually identical for all of them, differing only in the HWADDR and DEVICE lines. So here's the behaviour:

1. The Lucent card comes up just fine.
2. The internal 5100AGN and the Linksys cards won't come up, and watching with iwconfig shows that they're either associated with my AP OR they've got an encryption key set -- but not both.
3. When trying to bring up the 5100AGN, I get the following messages:

iwlagn: index 0 not used in uCode key table
iwlagn: index 3 not used in uCode key table

/var/log/messages shows DHCPDISCOVER requests being sent, but they're bound to fail since the association with the AP with WEP isn't being completed. And yes, the ifcfg-* files really *are* identical except for the DEVICE and HWADDR lines. The /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file correctly maps the interfaces to the MAC addresses. So why does my antique ORiNOCO card work and thew newer ones fail? How can I track down what's being done wrong/not being done?

Fedora Networking :: F11 - Routing Two PPPOE Connections

May 24, 2009

On a Fedora 11 machine, I configured ppp0 on eth0 and ppp1 on eth1, each one is connected to a modem, I also defined ppp0 as the default gateway.. Should I do anything else to load balance the 2 connections or will ppp1 take some of the load by default? Should I add any other routing rules? If yes then please tell me what should I add, keeping in mind that for each pppoe connection both the pppoe address and the remote address are not static so I actually needed some scripting to change the default gateway each time the remote pppoe address changes.

Fedora Networking :: PPPoE Not Working After Update?

Feb 26, 2010

I'm running Fedora 12. After installing the following updates (from yum log):

Quote:

Feb 24 14:34:25 Updated: xorg-x11-server-common-1.7.5-1.fc12.i686
Feb 24 14:34:45 Updated: 1:qt-4.6.2-1.fc12.i686

Feb 24 14:35:13 Updated: 1:qt-x11-4.6.2-1.fc12.i686

[Code]....

P.S.: I have another F12 system, on a second HDD, that I haven't updated since two weeks ago and I can connect to the internet with it. So this seems like a package correlation problem. I think it might affect more users than just me, especially those who only have F12 installed on their computers.

If this affects more than just me, I think the guise at Fedora should offer a script or a rpm to be used offline to, whether downgrade the "ppp" package, or to update the "/usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pppd-plugin.so" plugin.

Fedora Networking :: PPPoE Slows Or Does Not Load Certain Websites?

May 7, 2011

First some specs:
F13
NetworkManager Applet 0.8.3.998
Driver r8169
Opera 11 and Firefox 3.6.16

Recently my ISP switched to PPPoEand since then my internet connection has been giving me problems. While browsing, some websites load fine, some websites load fine after I refresh once or twice, some load really slowly and the formatting tends to be messed up and some websites won't load at all (they stop at waiting for website...). Ping for all of these sites is however fine. Also uploading and downloading either from sites like rapidshare or using torrents is also fine. The same ISP also provides a second similar connection which is connected through a wireless router to two computers (one via a wired connection and one through wireless) both running Win 7 and everything works fine over there.

Things I've tried.
I tried using the router changing it's setting to my connection and connecting through that but the problem remains. After googling I thought it might be an MTU issue so tried this:

ping -M do -c 3 -s 1464 www.myce.com and got
PING myce.com (212.204.237.148) 1464(1492) bytes of data.
1472 bytes from www.myce.com (212.204.237.148): icmp_seq=1 ttl=47 time=129 ms
1472 bytes from www.myce.com (212.204.237.148): icmp_seq=2 ttl=47 time=129 ms
1472 bytes from www.myce.com (212.204.237.148): icmp_seq=3 ttl=47 time=130 ms
--- myce.com ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2133ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 129.261/129.683/130.044/0.436 ms

This works for various websites whether they load or not. My MTU is set at 1492 but I've tried various lower numbers all the way down to 1300 but no luck. I tried disabling ipv6 in Firefox but no change.

Ubuntu Networking :: Virtualbox And Wireless Networking + USB Support?

Feb 17, 2010

Virtualbox, is great, except that I have no wireless networking or USB support. Problem one, is USB support. As far as I know there is a personal free use version of Virtualbox that includes USB support, however I can't find this copy to download it. Any ideas where I can find it? Second problem, I have an integrated wireless networking card in my laptop, that Ubuntu recognizes with no problems, but Virtualbox can't even "see" the device. I found a tutorial that addresses this know issues with wireless and Virtualbox, but I don't understand the instructions

[URL]

Quote:

Wireless Networking Setting up a normal bridged network generally doesn't work if you're bridging from a wireless card to VirtualBox. A simple script that utilises the parprouted tool will allow your VM full access to the wireless network. You will require parprouted to do this: sudo apt-get install parproutedNext, using your favorite text editor, create and edit the script, for example:

sudo nano /etc/network/if-up.d/vbox_networkThen, enter the script (replacing $USER with your username (or whoever you intend to run virtualbox as)). Replace wlan0 with the name of your wireless interface. Use an available IP address on your network for tap0 (I have used 192.168.1.100 in this case):

sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
VBoxTunctl -b -u $USER
ip link set tap0 up
ip addr add 192.168.1.100/24 dev tap0

parprouted wlan0 tap0Finally, make sure the new file is executable by root: sudo chmod 700 /etc/network/if-up.d/vbox_networkNow your networking script is installed, the virtual interface tap0 will be available on boot for VirtualBox. Rather than reboot, let's just run the script now:

sudo /etc/network/if-up.d/vbox_networkThe final thing to do is tell VirtualBox to use the new virtual device tap0. Open VirtualBox, highlight a VM and click settings. Now choose the network option and select Host Interface on the 'attached to' drop down menu.

In the Interface Name text box, enter: tap0 Click ok and start your VM. The VM should now behave as though it was another physical machine on your network!! For more information on the process up to this point, please visit Bridged Networking with VirtualBox on Linux Hosts Using DHCP in the Guest VM It was possible to get DHCP to work on the guest virtual machine. Instructions were taken from here. Because parprouted does not relay multicast, we need to use an additional helper daemon to manage this. I tried dhcp-helper and bcrelay, and had the most success with bcrelay.

Use it as follows:

sudo apt-get install bcrelay
sudo bcrelay -i tap0 -o wlan0At this point, my /etc/network/if-up.d/vbox_network is as follows:
#!/bin/sh
sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

[code]....

bcrelay -i tap0 -o wlan0 &It seems that I have to start the script by hand after boot. Other than that, host networking now seems to work fine (this issue should be solved by adding the "#!/bin/sh" line just at the beginning of the script.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Support Disappeared After Updates

May 9, 2011

This is a Toshiba Satellite L640 and has a Broadcom BCM4313 controller and Bios version 1.9 and I'm posting by booting my Ubuntu 11.04 cd in "trial" mode which rules out hardware cause for trouble. My 11.04 install is brand new today and wireless was working perfectly immediately after install. Since then, I've shut it down and when I rebooted it I haven't been able to find any wireless connections.

I've installed the updates that were suggested after the install and also activated the two proprietary drivers that th system suggested - this might include the proprietary Broadcom wireless driver, that's the only proprietary driver suggested in the current "trial" mode and I remember there being the graphic driver and one other.I wondered if the wireless was turned off so I tried to turn it on or get it up. I typed ifup wlan0 but it said wlan0 was not configured. In production mode, when I click the wireless icon: it says wireless is enabled and offers me the option of connecting to a hidden network or setting up a new connection, but it can't see any connections even when my phone has seen the connection and automatically signed in. It can't see my home WPA2 connection or my completely open work connection.
