Loving my new Fedora system and the steady march towards making a MS free house but I have a problem. I need to be able to connect to my company server via VPN and then initiate a terminal server connection. Two clicks on XP but I have no idea what to use now. As soon as I have this down I can remove my XP partition forever as I have everything else I need daily working like a charm.
View 3 Replieso, incredibly simple problem that I am having a terrible time finding an answer to. I am trying to setup a program in Fedora to be redirected to a folder in my 64-bit Window$ partition, however I am not sure how to tell Terminal that it has a "(" and ")" in the path name.
The exact path in standard value is as follows: "/media/12842F85842F6A85/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps" What SHOULD this look like in Terminal?
I am at a loss. I can not access my work remote desktop via the terminal server client on my wired box running Ubuntu 10.10. My wireless laptop is able to connect right away once I established the VPN connection. The VPN connection is established on both boxes with no problems.
When I tried the Terminal Server Client on my wired boxed, it says it can not establish a connection. Yet my wireless box gets connected immediately!
I check the /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and the /etc/resolv.conf to see if there were any differences, but they are essentially the same. When I have the vpnc connection, they both recognize it and I am able to ping the IP address shown when I do a "ifconfig" on the terminal.
What can be the problem? Anything I need to configure on a wired computer versus a wireless one? What else can I check?
generally whenever there is a wifi connection available fedora will detect and i can establish the connection but today i am not able to see any such wireless network available. I am in a wifi accessible area and i need to know how this can be rectified. i tried iwlist scan in the terminal but that doesnt seem to work
View 1 Replies View Related I set up Samba using command line terminal, and my network does not work. I have Samba username and keyring passwords all set, then I go to gui system-config-samba, and my samba user profile password is incorrect. In the past, I have used a 10 letter password, however, every time I boot the computer, I have to go back in and re-enter the password.I wonder if samba is truncating the password because it only accepts an 8 character password? I have deleted the user, and added a new username, and it is still doing it.
If I go into the gui and re-enter the password, usually I can get the network back up with my windows machine. All of the parameters are correct, I use the network to transfer files from my Windows to my Fedora drive all of the time when it works.
Here is my problem, which I think also posted here already but cant find enough solution. I successfully access the web server to its localhost using its IP address (Sample: http://192.168.1.100/index.php), but when I try to access it on other terminal which are also connected to the same network, I cant view it. But it seems that they can both communicate to each other when I ping it respectively both sides.
how can i set something to view the page outside the local server.
I cannot access a remote server(Ubuntu) using ssh or even using sftp from my ftp client. I've been accessing this server regularly for many months with no problem until now. There is a web server running and that's OK, so no problems there. I asked the owner of the server if he could access using ssh from within his LAN, which he could! So openssl is working from within the LAN, but not ouside of the LAN. I access the remote server by using one of [URL] free domain names. I'm aware that this service requires renewal or activity at least once a month and as far as I know this is up to date and working OK.
Is this a router gateway problem? I suspect that port 22 has been blocked, but what could block this port? It's been working well for so many months. As far as I can tell the owner of the server/LAN has not been tampering with the router, so what could be blocking port22? I'm currently accessing the server using vnc4server.
Another really weird thing is that when I access the terminal on the remote server via vnc4server and I ssh back to the server using one of [URL] free domain names, it works! So as I understand ssh is accessing itself by going out of the LAN and back to itself. This would suggest that port22 on the gateway router is working. But when I try to ssh from a pc outside of the LAN, I just get timed out!
* openssl working from within the LAN but not outside of the LAN.

* domain name from dyndns.com working and up to date.
* Web server is working OK.
I can successfully connect to a remote Windows Computer using Terminal Server Client but I cannot save the profile (Fedora 12).This means I have to enter the details every time I wish to connect. As I have many different remote locations I need to access on a regular basis is there any way to save the profiles?

I just need access to the local network of my office from a Windows XP (which of course is outside the LAN). I would like this PC to have access to the whole LAN, but what I really need is it to access to an Ubuntu Server (e.g. 192.168.0.10). The router is a Netgear DG834, which has a built in VPN functionality. So, is it enough if I set it up? Do I need to install any VPN server in Ubuntu? What if I want to access to another computer in the LAN? Where should I start?

I have found a number of posts on this forum, as well as on the net in general, about setting up a file/print server at home. What I want to be able to do is to access my server through the internet from my office computer (windows 2000) How can I do that? I have not yet spent much time trying to decide which distro I will use. It seems that a number of them are suitable for this purpose, so I just plan to try several from a live cd and then choose one.

I have some software installed on a RedHat Linux box, that is attempting an FTP transfer to a remote system.
The transfer is always aborted after 20 seconds.
The same software on another RH box does not do this. Both boxes are accessing the same source FTP server.
What operating system options should I check to see what is causing this timeout?
I am using ubuntu 10.04 and I am having trouble accessing my Internet through terminal, while I am able to access it through browser.
In terminal, if I try to ping any server with its name, like ping google.com, I am able to do that, even I can successfully used nslookup and several other network commands, but when I tried to download something, using "wget" or install something using "gem install" or checking out some code using "svn", I got server timeout error.
We installed Fedora on top by my WindowsXP, we have updated the connection information with the addresses, but can't access any website. Connection Manager says we're connected. We created a new wired network connection, but it doesn't appear in the choices.
I installed Ubuntu recently and had a similar problem, only mine was that my computer was competing with hers (something to do with DHCP). The solution was to alter my /etc/network/interfaces file, but I also screwed with settings in the "Network Connections" thing, pretty much altering a connection my /etc/network/interfaces file seemed to have made. My problem was only solved as far as I cared. I wonder if this is the same problem.
On the other hand, we attempted connecting the Fedora box directly to a modem and still no internet, so I believe they are entirely unrelated. But I wanted to include this for completeness in case they are.
i just installed ubuntu on my old dell inspiron 4000 laptop. I have a problem with my screen though thats making ubuntu split in half makign it nearly impossible to use.. i found the possible solution at [URL] but im havin g trouble accessing File System where the document i need is located The solution states to open etc/X11 then to do some other line and change something in a text but i have no idea how to access File System using terminal?

I know I can create a mount point using fstab that will solve my problem but I was hoping for something using these automount procedures as it's really clean.

I have dual boot Fedora 8/XP. My net seams to be moody only in my fedora sometimes I have wait as long as 30 sec for the page to load where as in my windows it's fine no such delay. This happens randomly yesterday night I had tough time accessing this forum (in addition to other sites) now it's working fine.

I want this system to be running Folding@Home, and the F@H SMP client for Linux is much less of a headache than its Windows couterpart, so I would like this computer to run Fedora. My dad loves networking, and knows how to do it in XP / Vista, so he has always opposed my frequent use of Linux. There are ways of accessing Windows shared folders from Linux, but that I haven't figured it out yet. I want to access Windows shared folders from my Fedora 10. I don't know how to go about doing this, can anyone point me in the right direction? Do I have to install anything special? I can go to Places, and then Network (in Gnome) and I see "Windows Network", but when I click it, I get "Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server"

But I am wondering does Wine work well with Fedora 14? If so how do I install through the terminal. I know it is the harder way but I find it gives me more customization. I prefer it, so what would the command be? With Ubuntu it is sudo apt-get install wine1.2 what is it in Fedora?

so i need to know how to, without a gui application, use the terminal to assign server eth0 a proper IP address, and tell the server to take the connection it has and share it through eth0 to supply internet for the last 2 computers via ethernet.i had it set up in this way with a windows machine being the one that had the wifi access, but i'd rather have it setup for the ubuntu server to do this task. security is imperative for these 3 remaining machines, so just getting 2 more wifi adapters for a connection to the initial router isn't an option.the 2 that connect to server do so through SSH and though server IS connected via wireless it only makes outward connections through
I'm trying to connect to a PPTP VPN service located in UK (I think) and everything seems to set to the right values. I've checked and double checked the gateway address, user name and password. But every time all I get is a brief message 'vpn connection XXXX failed'. Is there any way to know what is wrong? Is there any log file, or is it possible to connect to a VPN server from the terminal?

I've been trying to figure out if it's possible to connect to any of the XP machines on the LAN behind it. I currently have to use RWW in IE on a VirtualBox XP machine to do that, and I'd love to be able to get rid of VirtualBox completely.
The server has 2 NICs, one connected to the internet, and the other connected to the LAN. There is only one public IP. The computer I'd most like to connect to has a static, private IP. Anybody done anything like this or have any thoughts on how to get it to work?
I was installed xming application on windows XP & Windows 7to access Linux server's GUI session and i was able to access it using root account but when ever iam trying to access GUI using normal account it is giving some error.I am testing this since it is a freeware.

This is sometimes needed to use the University resources (libraries and computer programs) from remote locations, and otherwise a google search is fruitless. I had to have a guy in the computer science department show me how to do it.This may apply for other Universities with similar setups.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I setup VNC on my Mac (that runs Snow Leopard) and my PC (that runs Ubuntu) and I gave the IP address to Ubuntu, entered the password and it worked fine. The problem is that it still works fine... I only made this connection to test it because I thought it'd be cool, which it was (for a while). Now I cannot delete this connection whatsoever!
I have tried changing the password on the Mac, limiting the users, and even switching it off completely by unchecking its checkbox. I have also tried limiting the users... BUT UBUNTU STILL MANAGES TO GET INTO MY COMPUTER! This is really annoying because anyone using the PC downstairs can now go into my Mac and mess about with things - I hate this. Somehow, Ubuntu has locked in on my Mac and, despite the changes, can earn access no matter what!

Can I mount a WD My Book World Edition NAS in Ubuntu 11 without extensive terminal work? The NAS has a static ip, it can be ping'd from Ubuntu, and my Windows machines access it just fine, no passwords required.I have not been able to find a way to make this work. Nothing against the terminal per se, it's just still a little too unfamiliar and I keep hitting error road blocks on this one.
