I have some software installed on a RedHat Linux box, that is attempting an FTP transfer to a remote system.
The transfer is always aborted after 20 seconds.
The same software on another RH box does not do this. Both boxes are accessing the same source FTP server.
What operating system options should I check to see what is causing this timeout?
Should I check or uncheck boxes that say 'Source Code' in Software Sources window?

I know this because firefox works on the xp machine, and yum works on the fedora machine.I can see the server index page through firefox by ip. I can't see it by url.

Loving my new Fedora system and the steady march towards making a MS free house but I have a problem. I need to be able to connect to my company server via VPN and then initiate a terminal server connection. Two clicks on XP but I have no idea what to use now. As soon as I have this down I can remove my XP partition forever as I have everything else I need daily working like a charm.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm sort of an incidental Debian user -- Untangle installs with a customized version of Debian (2.6.26) and I have a few Untangle boxes around. I've searched with Google and also in this forum for some guidance in installing VNC Server and have run into a brick wall. Basically I need to see my Untangle boxes' GUI remotely on Windows mostly to run Wireshark. There are some X clients that install on Windows, but I've not got any of them to work well enough to rely on.
I use VNC routinely between Windows boxes, so I thought maybe that would be a better option. Unfortunately, all the instructions I've found to install the VNC server on Debian have been inoperative. They typically say something like "apt-get install vncserver" which results in an error because it can't find "vncserver" anywhere. Now I know that this has been done by others, so it's clearly possible.
I run a server that is connected to several other boxes in a private network (192.168.0.0). I have had no problems previously, but upon a reinstall of Debian squeeze I have no connectivity to the private network: a ping of other addresses on that network fail. Ping and connection to outside world is fine. This box is configured similarly to another on this private network which connects successfully. I have quadruple-checked all my basic information. I post my ifconfig below of the malfunctioning device, then the ifconfig for equivalent nic on a box connected succesfully to the private network.
Questions:
1.Could it be a cable problem? (I don't see how since the cables have not been changed I do not believe since my reinstallation).
2. What about the difference in the last lines of eth1 below and eth2 of the successful box. Is it significant that the bad eth1 reads Memory:fc3a0000-fc3c0000

I have a home windows wired ethernet xp network (simple linxs router) with 2 xp boxes and one centos5 box all connected to the same router. I just set up the centos box running tomcat on port 8080. I need to do two very basic things at this point, but am not sure what I need to do:
What do I need to do so I can:
1. Connect in firefox on one of my xp boxes and call the tomcat server running on my centos box?
2. Be able to ftp to centos box from either of my xp boxes?
I'm having a bizarre problem with FTP transfers from my CentOS 5.3 boxes, All of my CentOS boxes appear to be limited at ~10kb/s when connecting to any FTP server outside of our network. We have no network infrastructure which would cause this, however when I use a windows based machine it is able to connect fine.
I took my laptop running Vista, and rebooted it onto a CentOS 5.3 LiveCD, and same issue.
I have checked our iptables, cleared the rules, removed the kernel modules, checked CBQ/TC it looks like nothing is limiting this. Also, other protocols work fine. Both the windows and linux boxes used passive transfers for it.
Is there anything other than iptables/CBQ which would be on a out of the box install of CentOS I should check? Is there any kernel settings for NAT connections which may cause this?

Home network with 3 Win7 boxes and one elderly Fedora 11 box (heloise) which has been running Samba well for several years. I've just built and started configuring a new Fedora 14 box (abelard) to replace heloise, but can't get the Win7 boxes to see shares on it.
Windows Explorer on the Win7 boxes can see abelard, and they can see the two shares I've created on it, but if I double-click on a share I get the "Windows cannot access" dialog.
I've set a Samba password for one user (ralph), the same as that user's login password, and set the "smb password file" entry to point to the resulting .tdb file.
All IP addresses are static (via Static DHCP), everybody can ping everybody, I can ssh from a Win7 box to abelard via Putty, and the network operates cleanly in all other respects. Here's my smb.conf:

It used to have spamassassin and MailScanner installed, but one of those died over the weekend and killed the mail server. We do not need either of these as we are using a web based spam filter now (postini), so I tried removing these. I have discovered that the mail is in the mqueue waiting for delivery to the users mailboxes. I have tried using "sendmail -q -v":

I do not have a procmail config file: /etc/procmailrc. I am not sure why, or what it should be, perhaps that is the problem. I guess I don't exactly know how this server runs all that well. I was able to get it up and running but never understood it enough to now find what is not working correctly.
I reinstalled Fedora 11 last night because i saw that I could leave out packages that I don't need by unchecking everything in the software selection screen. Anaconda installed about 179 packages and I rebooted. I installed X, GDM, and LXDE, but whenever, I start GDM, all the fonts show up as random boxes, ie. there's no english on the sceen, just boxes. I'm pretty sure that i forgot to install a font that fedora uses for gdm but i don't know which one to install.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to setup IPSEC encryption between two linux boxes. I have a server application which runs on Linux Box A and a client application which runs on Linux Box B. The client sends the data to server. I have captured wireshark logs at both server and client end. In the wireshark logs I can see that the Box B send ESP packets to the Box A.
But the server Application running at Box A is is not able to get any packets. If I turn the policy off at Box B, Box B sends normal UDP data packets to Box A, but still the Server Application running at box A doesn't get any packets.( Expected behavior since policy at Box A enforces that all packets coming from Box B should be encrypted.)
If I turn the policy off at Box A and Box B both, the server application receives the unencrypted data which is also expected behavior. But when the policy is turned on at both the boxes the encrypted packets reach the Box A but are not delivered to the server application. If anyone has faced such issue please help me to debug this issue. I have attached the ifconfig and policy settings at Box A and Box B for your reference.
I was installed xming application on windows XP & Windows 7to access Linux server's GUI session and i was able to access it using root account but when ever iam trying to access GUI using normal account it is giving some error.I am testing this since it is a freeware.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a webservice which runs under Apache Tomcat. The service is started via a script in /etc/init.d. During the course of the Web service processing, the software must make use of the two NVIDIA GPUs on the computer to do some graphics processing. When this system is booted but not logged in, the web service is accessible but the software cannot access the software cannot access the X server to do it's processing. However, when I am logged in, the user can access the X servers and run correctly. I have tried various solutions but I always have to be logged in to run the software. I seem to have permissions problems but I'm unsure how to resolve them
Is there any way to grant permissions to root (the tomcat service is started as root) to allow it to run the software without logging in?
I am running CentOS 5.4 with Gnome display manager.
I'm running a Debian LAMP server and I am adding postfix. The initial config is working and I can send and receive mail both locally and over the WAN. The problem is that I cannot get mail delivered to the user's home directory using Maildir/. I have set the:home_mailbox = Maildir/ parameter in main.cf but mail still goes to /var/mail after Postfix reload. The system is now using Maildir/ instead of mbox but in /var/mail. I really want to get mail into the user's home directory.
