Fedora :: Mozilla Cannot Connect After FC12 Update
Apr 21, 2010
Mozilla programs are not connecting to the network. All other networking programs are working: yum, wget, skype, opera, nslookup, etc. Firefox and Thunderbird are not able to connect to the network. What happened? My box was working fine earlier! All I can figure is something included in the yum update that I performed today.

im just recently in to linux world and the first thing i did is to familiarize my self to the environment of linux and then and structure of file system. I run F10 in virtualbox. and setting it to bridge mode.
after that i began configure my network in linux. as default i connect to the internet. enable NetworkManager and dhcp on(auto detect ip).
then i began to manually configure it.
enable eth0 and insert the necessary ip i found in ifconfig then active eth0 then restart /etc/init.d/network
then i still dont have internet.. then i read that i need to disable my NetworkManager, so i do that.. and it works.
BUT one day later . cant connect to the internet.. so i redo my configuration. and to check if i have internet connection i ping outside ip like our external DNS, public site, localhost etc.. and i can ping all of them but when i use mozilla i cant browse any site..

My system (recently installed FC12) is reporting that there are 563 updates available. When I try and install the updates I get to the stage of "Getting list of updates" and receive the message "The package identifier was not well formed". The details are "Package_ID cannot not be parsed". It further says that "This normally indicates an internal error and should be reported."

After upgrading to FC12 from FC10 the 3 samba shares on the box cannot be connected to from either Windows-7 or Windows Server 2003R2. Both were working with FC10 just fine.
It is local authentication to the box not LDAP etc. Files below and error msg:
attempting to connect to say \saturngeorgek gets an error in a windows popup with Unknown username or bad password yet I'm certain of the ID & password as I can ssh in with it from Windows-7
In 2003 I see "Multiple connections to the same server or shared resource by the same user using more than one name are not allowed disconnect all previous connections and tr again."
In neither case do I have any connections to the saturn server that I can see using net use from either box.

I have just upgraded to FC 12 from FC 11 everything on FC 11 was fine, I has samba, openvpn, subversion, tinyproxy and apache all working fine. Friends could vpn in and do all the stuff they where allowed to do,
Now unfortunately I have this issue after upgrading to FC12, All the samba mounts have disappeared from all my friends computers, when I look at the log files I now see this;
smbd/server.c:457(smbd_open_one_socket)
smbd_open_once_socket: open_socket_in: Address already in use

I just finished a few updates this evening (Friday Jan. 22, 2010). Attempting to launch Sunbird from the menu after the updates finished brought nothing. From the command line:
Code:
BASH:~/-> sunbird
Cannot find Calender runtime directory. Exiting.
Great, just great.
If you also experience this same scenario, there is a quick fix. As root, load /usr/bin/sunbird into a text editor of your choice. Edit the line:
moz_libdir=/usr/lib/sunbird-1.0b2pre
to read:
moz_libdir=/usr/lib/sunbird-1.0pre
I suppose that would be /usr/lib64/ if you're using 64 bit OS.
Whether this was a glitch in the delta rpm rebuild (yum presto) that only might have effected me, or a packaging snafu that's going to catch everyone, I don't know at this time.

A package nss >= 3.12.8 is not available. But it is needed by thunderbird update in the course of "yum update". yum exits with RC 1.Is "--skip-broken" the right way to exclude the thunderbird update ("Resolve depsolve problems by removing packages that are causing problems from the transaction")? Or is there a better way to exclude a package? Problem screen output:
---> Package thunderbird.x86_64 0:3.0.10-1.fc12 set to be updated

Have had a clean perfectly working copy of 2.6.31.6-166 for months and after two updates to 2.6.31.12-174.2.3 and 2.6.31.12-174.2.19, neither of the newer kernel versions will allow machine to boot properly. Start-up hangs at the preload daemon with a flickering screen. To use machine, must use grub chooser and choose the original base kernel.
Running on Tyan h2000m board, opteron 2356, Nvidia 9800 GTX+ and 12GB of dram with SELinux security enabled.

I recently set up an older Pentium 3 desktop w/ Jaunty Jackalope 9.04. The Netbook I am typing this on right now(ASUS Eee PC w/ Win 7);is connected on a home network, that is using the WiFi signal, that is going through that Linux Machine. The Linux machine's Mozilla browser does not seem to be able to use/connect w/ the DLink USB adapter's "Auto Linksys" internet connection. Is there a easy fix for this problem?

Today I did the Seamonkey 2.1 update. I found out that some of the add-ons or extensions did not work. They were disabled, due to incompatible versions. I found out a simple solution. I hope this helps some. This helped me with the Webdeveloper, fxif and Novell Moonlight extensions. In the file install.rdf is an element called MaxVersion. Change this to 2.1.* and the extensions work again.
The file install.rdf is to be found in ~/.mozilla/seamonkey/user-thingies.default/extensions/{extensioncode}
The changed code for Moonlight looks like this:
Code:
<Description>
<em:id>{92650c4d-4b8e-4d2a-b7eb-24ecf4f6b63a}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>2.0b1</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>2.1.*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>
Good luck if you are a Seamonkey user.

I'm running 13.1 x86_64 on my laptop. Yesterday the first batch of security updates were released, which I installed without problems; however, I'm bugged by the fact that that the Firefox packages for 13.0 and 13.1 have the same name. (see below)
Updated package for Slackware x86_64 13.0:[URL].._slack13.0.txz Updated package for Slackware x86_64 13.1:[URL]..._slack13.0.txz They aren't the same file--their listed md5 hashes on ftp.slackware.com differ, plus I downloaded both packages and confirmed that both check against their respective listed hashes.
So...I suppose my question is this: Is this simply a mistake in naming, and if so, could it possibly produce a problem somehow?

Is it safe to put my old .mozilla and .mozilla-thunderbird folders from xandros 4.2 into OSS 11.3? I have apps, emails, and settings that I would like to keep. This might seem like an over precautious question, but I've broken Xandros more than once. I would hate to do it to OSS.

I have been doing periodic net-based dist upgrade since 7.10. Currently I use 9.10. Now that 10.04 is out, I want to upgrade to the latest LTS version by doing a clean install, instead of using net-based dist-upgrade.
Since I use Firefox, and Thunderbird, I want to keep the passwords/bookmarks I have stored in firefox, and mail/account settings (for multiple email accounts) that are in Thunderbird.
While I know I can copy the hidden profile directories for each, and back them up for recovery after the upgrade by copying them into the new 10.04 after install is complete, I don't know if this is recommended, prudent, or if pitfalls await me. Since I want to do a clean install, and, since 10.04 uses different versions of both Thunderbird and Firefox,
1. Would it be prudent to back up/use the existing profiles I have in 9.10, or should I bite the bullet and just start fresh with new profile setups when I finish installing 10.04? 2. Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of if I will be restoring a profile of each from 9.10?
3. Or, should I continue to do net-based dist-upgrades to 10.04 so appropriate profile changes can be made by the new versions of Thunderbird/Firefox software?

I have just installed Fedora 10. After the installation I was able browse the Internet. However, I did a update: yum update and downloaded 287 updates. However, when I rebooted I could no longer connect to the Internet. I went to network manager and looked at the details of my connection. Everything ok there. IP address, DNS, etc. However, I cannot connect. I have windows xp running on the same system. I can still connect, so there is nothing wrong with my Internet connection.I am using Fedora 10 2.6.27.12-170 There is one thing I have noticed when I shutdown is I see this: "Network manager Int PIC disabled" However, this is only displayed for a few seconds before the computer swiches off.

I am not able to connect to network after update F13 to 2.6.34.7-61. Because there is "no netwokr decvice" IAW network manager. There is nothing in system log that abonormal. But, there is a fail initialization in the boot message. "applying firewall rules: iptable v1.4.7:Ip6table-restore: unable to initialize table .filter error occur at line 3 try Ip6table-restore -h or Ip6table-restore -help for more detail"
so, I tried the comment at terminal with root clearance, it just give some feed back about how to use this command. When I tried out other options. none of them work. There is no feed back form the terminal other than previous display and blanking cusor.
I assume it was the firewall preventding me to connect to network. And I complete disable SELinux and reboot. Problem remain, no network device. Check network device driver. There all inplace. Tried using old kernel, unble to boot up X window, presumably old driver has been deleted.
BTW, after two consecutive update failure (2.6.34.7-54 kernel panic VFS? problem, 2.6.34.7-61 no network connection), I assume Fedora Quality should consider review their update release process. Since the probability of fedora releasing bad update is increase a lot after fedora 11.

I have a huawei e230 modem that used to work pretty good until this week. It has always been much slower on linux than windows but I am not complaining because windows keep disconnecting ever hour or so, while linux can stay connected over night without problem. The modem is still recognized but when I try to connect it suddenly disappears.

I have an old laptop running Fedora Core 6. I need to update it for a project at work. I am using my home network and a hard wired connection. I can ping my router, and ifconfig shows my interface is active and has the right IP address assigned. When I try to open the GUI package updater, it fails to connect. Opening an browser also fails to connect. My firewall is turned off. I suspect a service is not starting, but everything I can think of is running. why layer 3 is working, but my apps won't connect to the Internet?

Skype doesn't recognise my plugged in mic and earphones. I can hear sound through the headphones from other programs. DVD burner burnt a cd for me, but seemed to pause at around 15-20% and sat there for half an hour. When I ejected CD it jumped to 100% stating it had finished. The CD was a Live Install CD for Ubuntu, which didn't work. I get I/O errors when trying to install from CD on start up. I'm guessing it didn't burn properly or isn't being read properly. I'm generally unsure of what drivers are installed for all of my hardware. Not sure if there is an auto-detection program in or for Fedora that can help, or if I will have to stop being lazy. Skype, like mentioned before. I'm not sure if this is a software issue or driver issue.
Mozilla failing to open. When clicking on the Firefox icon it wouldn't start. Shows an icon at bottom of monitor on toolbar, but disappears after 5-10 seconds with no browser opening. I had recently installed a VLC player with plugin for Mozilla while logged in as root. Wondering if I messed this one up myself? I stumbled onto updates and it had Mozilla install in there. It works again. I'm sure it won't be reoccurrent. If I were to post system specs and issues I'm having, would someone on this forum be willing to guide me through or point me in the direction of having my laptop fully operational? All drivers basically. It works as is, just not completely

I think I've found a problem in Firefox 3.5 in Fedora 11, don't know if this may be also the case for other distributions. So, the problem I currently have is that other user accounts on the system cannot access correctly the fonts from Mozilla based browsers (Firefox, Epiphany, Galeon, SeaMonkey), the problem is that at many websites the browser simply won't display any fonts at all, all the text is "blank", it IS there, but as if the characters were transparent, they aren't drawn. Besides this problem, Firefox (or Epiphany, or any of the others) will eat up as much as 80% of all the RAM (and in this 4Gb setup, that is simply too much for the browser alone!), not to mention that performance is awefully degraded while the HDD is spinning like mad and the browser is loading whatever it may be.
However, my primary account is unaffected (reason why I thought it may be related to privileges). I need this system to be multiuser. Looking around I don't seem to see any signs of this issue, I have no idea why is this the case. The only way to get the other browsers to display any fonts at all is to force the desired fonts to use (not allowing the websites to be viewed as intended by the authors).
Any hints as to why is this so? BTW, in the main account I have the option for the websites to choose the font enabled, and no font drawing problems whatsoever.
