Slackware :: 2010-06-25 Mozilla-firefox Update Curiosity?
Jun 26, 2010
I'm running 13.1 x86_64 on my laptop. Yesterday the first batch of security updates were released, which I installed without problems; however, I'm bugged by the fact that that the Firefox packages for 13.0 and 13.1 have the same name. (see below)
Updated package for Slackware x86_64 13.0:[URL].._slack13.0.txz Updated package for Slackware x86_64 13.1:[URL]..._slack13.0.txz They aren't the same file--their listed md5 hashes on ftp.slackware.com differ, plus I downloaded both packages and confirmed that both check against their respective listed hashes.
So...I suppose my question is this: Is this simply a mistake in naming, and if so, could it possibly produce a problem somehow?

Firefox's Brazilian Portuguese Language Pack has not yet been ported to Firefox 4 so I got Mozilla's Firefox binary in my language, used Pat's Slackbuild for 13.1 and replaced Slack's Firefox with it. I tried compiling it localized from source using the Slackbuild in /source, but all I found to add to the configure options was a "--with-l10n-base=directory" option, which I made point to the pt-BR locale I'd downloaded from Mozilla, but it still compiled in en-US.
My question is: am I missing out on something like the cairo-tee option? If I am, has anyone had success in building a localized version of Firefox around here? How?

Attempting to do so gives the following:
Firefox could not install the file at [URL]
because: Unexpected installation error Review the Error Console log for more details. -203
When I review the error console log I get the following:
Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE) [nsIMIMEService.getTypeFromURI]" nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///home/josh/.mozilla/firefox/3xogq1ay.default/extensions/%7Be0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca%7D/components/external-app-blocker.js :: anonymous :: line 126" data: no]
Source File: file:///home/josh/.mozilla/firefox/3xogq1ay.default/extensions/%7Be0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca%7D/components/external-app-blocker.js
Line: 126
The specific files will change, but the error is consistent.
I have full read and write permissions, as well as execute permissions for all relevant mozilla files, so what could be the problem?

Yesterday I updated firefox following the security mailing to
Code:
mozilla-firefox-3.6.6-x86_64-1_slack13.0.txz
When starting the new firefox I got the message that I should update my flash plugin. I use the slackbuild for flash so I already had the version
Code:
libflashplayer-10.0.45.2.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
So I tried to open [URL] to see if there are any new versions, but no luck. It seems Adobe has changed the setup and I could only download a libflashplayer without any version number whatsoever... Should I trust this? Should I wait for Robby to update the slackbuild script?

12.2 is up to date and am running the Firefox from Slackbuilds. There was an update to FF a few months ago. Since then FF "hangs" when I close it out. It does seem to shut down better from the home page instead of whatever site I happen to be on at the time of shutting down. I do have a few addons to FF but they were there before the update with no issues. The addons are Gmarks [disabled], Rankchecker, Scribefire, SEO for FF [disabled], SEO Toolbar, Weatherbug and Web Developer. I haven't done any "fixes" so I'm fairly certain I didn't create my own problem.

I have a Nortek Diva keyboard and my machine runs Mandriva. In Mandriva 2009, pressing the "magnifying glass" button on my keyboard took me straight to the Firefox Search bar. Fantastic! Now that I've upgraded to Mandriva 2010, however, pressing the same button just launches the search engine as a new tab (okay, I can live with that), but the cursor is not active in the Search field.
I've been to the Nortek site but there are no drivers for the keyboard, Linux or otherwise. And no Nortek keyboard configurations appear in the Mandriva Linux Control Centre. I know how to use xev to capture keystrokes. What I'd like to know is, how can I map the keyboard button to position a cursor in the Firefox Search bar? I use Search A LOT, so this is really slowing me down. I bet it's something like "firefox %search".

I'm fairly new to Linux and everything and still doesn't understand a lot of things about it. But as most of you may know that ..... is probably going to switch to HTML5 (so I heard) and I can not get Firefox to work with it. It is really annoying and I have flash player working but some videos require HTML5.

I just used sbopkg to download and compile Digikam 1.0.0 from slackbuilds.org. But compilation stops with an error regarding "png loader". I guess this has to do with the libpng issue mentioned in the changelog.
Nevertheless: Has anyone been able to compile Digikam on the latest Slackware64-current?

This may (or may not) duplicate yester64's post but I'm trying to learn html and I've been going crazy with the <basefont /> tag. KompoZer, Opera, and Firefox all ignore it. However, any <font /> tag I use works with no problems What's really maddening is that I copied the file to the windows side and IE works wonderfully with the same file although Firefox still ignores it! I keep windows around for One and only one program - tomtom. I would cry at mozilla except that the same problem is occuring in those other non-mozilla programs.

how to install firefox 3.6 on my 9.1 ubuntu. About adding various repository and the a sudo apt get and all that. I can do it that way, and I am sure it will work.
What stop me to just download the .deb package from mozilla for the version I want and install it? Will it be less integrated to the system, will it not be compatible with my 64bit ubuntu? I just find it so much simpler to download a package from the web and double click on it than going through terminal, yet no-one seems to propose this option.

I installed Ubuntu 10.04. Prior to this I had been using Ubuntu 9.10. In 10.04 I am just unable to connect to the net using Mozilla FireFox. But otherwise, Update Manager, Google Chromium are all connecting smoothly. Which implies that there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. So now that this is a Mozilla FireFox problem.

first of all I need to know how to install Mozilla Firefox from the browser. It should be easy, but it has this weird tar.bz thing. Why can't Mozilla be normal? It is extremely hard to get the latest builds. I don't even know what I had to wrestle through to get to 4.0.1, which is what I am on now. Tell me the super easy way. Mozilla is awful. Also, how can I get the new beta and aurora channel switcher? I believe I can only get it if I update to a newer version which is what I am trying to do now. It says to go to about and then click "change" which is not there. So Linux really shouldn't be this complicated and frustrating.

Downloaded the above file. Also downloaded and installed an update to my existing Firefox web browser, updating it from Version 2.0.0.7 to 2.0.0.11. As predicted, Firefox now has a new security and stability update labeled 3.6.9, which I will download at my earliest opportunity. Once that is done, I will try to install each upgrade as per the suggestions to date to upgrade my Mozilla Firefox web browser from version 2.0.0.11 to 3.6.9. My hardware: ASUS Eee PC 4G (701) My operating system: Linux - Debian Distro by Xandros
