I have a huawei e230 modem that used to work pretty good until this week. It has always been much slower on linux than windows but I am not complaining because windows keep disconnecting ever hour or so, while linux can stay connected over night without problem. The modem is still recognized but when I try to connect it suddenly disappears.

I am using samsung mobile (sgh-b220) in order to connect to the internet. I can easily connect on windows system , using PC studio software. I tried KPPP, wvidial none solved the problem. (It successfully dials the number. Put pppd connection will be terminated)
Some how I managed to scan modem communication taking place on the windows system, and tried exact commands on linux system still I am not able connect.
I have attached log files from windows machine. wvidial.conf, wvidial out put file along with this post.
I'm running F12 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I don't have any problems connecting to eth0 or wlan0 when I'm at work or when connecting to a variety of cable modems, but for some reason I can't connect to AT&T/Bellsouth's dsl modem at my house (can't connect directly, much less through my DI-524 D-Link wifi).Does anyone have any idea why? I've been through every setting I can think of and I've stayed on the phone with techsupport for AT&T and physically watched as they've pinged and reset my modem, so signal into the house/modem is good....and I can hit the modem's IP and go through all of the configuration settings and everything from Bellsouth says that I'm connected and online, but when I attempt to go to another website like google or yahoo or fedora.com, I get a message telling me "Server at ******** not found."After spending 2.5 hours on the phone last night with tech support, I came into the office tonight and hooked right up to TruVista's (cable) network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Fedora 13, everything seems to work but the Internet connection. 3 devices are shown in the "Network Configuration" window (devices tab)(under "Network Device Control")"Network Cards" (wired) (wireless) and even the Motorola Modem from the ISP as well as all of the primary and secondary "DNS's", but will not connect! I have Broadcom devices on a Dell Latitude D600 Laptop. On the upper right of the desktop, the connection icon shows when I plug and unplug the cat5e, so it sees something there, but will not connect.

After a bit of fighting interface works I can ping any domain name or ip address. I can even connect to web server via telnet, for example telnet www.org 80. I can see the response from Web server, but Mozilla says that it is offline, System Update says that no connection.
What can be the problem if manually I can connect but any Gnome GUI program says you are offline?

The update that broke things contained some 400 packages.The problem is NOT hardware related. There are 2 other linux installs on the laptop that work the way they should.This is all related to using a wired network connection.The update removed the package network-config and did not replace it. Not sure that is the problem because that package is related to the gui and I can not get an ip in cli.
I am stuck at cli because the new kernel broke nvidia (pretty normal). There was also a new xserver, which tends to break nvidia, and as I recall a new kde. Anyway I am unable to rebuild the nvidia driver because I can not establish a network connection to my network to get the packages needed to fix it.
Writing this from a 9.10 LiveCD, so I know that my hardware is working fine.My system is running 10.10 normally. After a recient update to the freenx libraries KDE on Kubuntu 10.04 stopped working but other desktops like gnome kept running. The problem wasn't in the normal log files, but it was found in the .xsession-errors file in the user directory on the server. After the update NX is trying to start kde with the /usr/bin/startkde4 command which doesn't exist. Instead make a link from /usr/bin/startkde to the non existent /usr/bin/startkde4 and it will work again. To do this use the command:

I managed to get my Linksys AE1000 USB wireless adapter to work on Unbuntu 10.04 LTS.but recently I updated the kernel to 2.6.32-26 and when i rebooted I logged on to see my wireless connection was not working.even worse, I can't fn the links i had that showed me how to install it in the first place, its about the fact that the new kernel uses a different usb setup(probably incorrect, let me know it its incorrect). its an issue that the hacked driver isnt compatible with the new kernel release, how can i revert to the older version that it did work on? i'm using a RALinkTech driver [URL]
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ran a yum update a couple days ago, and it completed without error. Today I tried logging into Wordpress, and was unable to do so. I get a 403 error. Further investigation shows that I can no longer run any php scripts for Wordpress or Gallery. A look through yum log shows the following packages were installed:

There were no updates to apache, php, or SElinux, so I am at a loss to explain why apache is no longer able to run php scripts.
I just ran yum update, which installed about 47 packages. When I try to restart, the Linux boot loader is not being read. Apparently, the old Windows 7 boot loader that came installed on this machine is still somewhat intact on the hard drive, because when it boots, it tries to start Windows. I put in a Red Hat 5 rescue disk...but the rescue disk can't find a Linux file system on my hard drive.

I ran the automatic update today and it requested a restart afterwards. After the restart, I don't have any icons on my desktop, can't open windows other than the terminal. If I try to run software from the terminal, I get the following error.

I have seen "just removed the library with an issue" or recreate the links or try to reinstall. I am running fedora 12.
Wednesday I went to work, docked and fired up my older Dell C840 laptop (running Fedora 12). It had a long list of updates that it downloaded and installed (it had been off for about a week). When the updates were finished, I noticed that my laptop had locked up. After waiting a while, I ended up doing a cold reboot. After that, I get the Fedora symbol that fills up, and then the screen goes black with a single cursor. You can type in anything and it is reflected- even control and ALT codes. If you hit CTL- ALT-F2, it goes into a terminal mode. You can do almost anything that you'd normally do in terminal mode. The video driver is the original off the install disk, and it's never been changed- it works fine right out of the box.
If I try to start up X-Windows, I get a segmentation fault error. I've tried deleting and then re-installing some of the packages that were updated (trying this via yum), no difference. I don't know what else to do. I need to get this laptop going before next week- it's my work computer and I do use it a lot. Is there any way to get in touch with the people who wrote the updates, and file a bug report? I'm using my main (home) system right now, that for a couple of reasons needs to stay on windoze XP for a few more weeks. I've been around computers for years, but not Linux.
I have just installed Fedora 10. After the installation I was able browse the Internet. However, I did a update: yum update and downloaded 287 updates. However, when I rebooted I could no longer connect to the Internet. I went to network manager and looked at the details of my connection. Everything ok there. IP address, DNS, etc. However, I cannot connect. I have windows xp running on the same system. I can still connect, so there is nothing wrong with my Internet connection.I am using Fedora 10 2.6.27.12-170 There is one thing I have noticed when I shutdown is I see this: "Network manager Int PIC disabled" However, this is only displayed for a few seconds before the computer swiches off.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got connected to Charter Cable Internet service a few days ago and I'm having a weird problem with my home network. Prior to this my network worked fine. On my network I have a desktop running Ubuntu 9.10/64 and Virtualbox with WinXP installed, an HTPC with Ubuntu 9.10/32 installed and a laptop dual booted with Ubuntu 9.10/32 and WinXP. The desktop and HTPC are hard wired to a wireless router and the laptop is wireless. The cable modem is hard wired to the router. I have samba installed and UFW is disabled. The problem is: with the cable modem turned off or on standby, all machines connect to each other and can transfer files, etc just fine but when I activate the cable modem all of the machines can connect to the Internet but the machines running Ubuntu can't connect to each other on the home network. If I boot the laptop into Windows, it can connect to the Linux machines just fine but if I boot it into Linux, it won't connect to the Linux machines but it can connect to the Internet and as far as the desktop, Ubuntu won't connect to the network but Windows running in the Virtualbox with bridged networking can connect to all of the machines.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just spent 2 days of extensive lurking how to solve this problem. Namely, i have ZTE usb modem, model MF626 T. The sofware provided with it works only under windows. What i tried first was to download hso.ko module (copied to the /lib/modules/`uname r`/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/). Then i downloaded hsolinkcontrol and HSOconnect. Unfortunately, i didn't get those /dev/ttyHS* ports that should appear. Only /dev/ttyUSB*. I blacklisted option module. Then changed occurences of ttyHS* to ttyUSB* in .py sources for HSOconnect. what i get is the popup interface GUI that has "connect" button disabled. Then i tried to set up connection via gnome-ppp. The usb modem was automatically detected as /dev/ttyUSB1. But when i supply telephone number that i got with the stick, i get message after "Sending: ATM1L3DT*99*" ->"no carrier found". Then i tried to copy the other two modules i found on the net-airprime.ko and usbserial.ko. I've renamed the option.ko and old usbserial.ko in order to use them later if needed. And also i've put in /etc/udev/rules.d/
some scripts i've found on net, used to mount and unmount ZTE modem. None of all that worked, and somehow i have the feeling i've messed up everything. What i just posted above is the sum of everything i googled out. I would be very glad if someone would help me out with this. I usually like to spend some time lurking and googling, but this is simply taking too much time...

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wireless modem has disappeared from the connection list at the top of the page. Strangely, a guest connection on that same modem is still visible but won't connect. I added the modem back in as a new connection and it was added to the list but it was greyed out and I still can't connect to it. The problem could, of course, be in the modem but I have no way to check that. Reset is not working. Lan connection to the modem works fine. This is the second time this has happened in the last week and I ended up reinstalling Ubuntu. This gave me back the wireless connection. I don't really want to have to do that again. Is there anything I can check in Ubuntu?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been working for the last week trying to connect my serial hardware external modem (courier 56K v.everything) within an Ubuntu 10.4 environment. I live in the boonies where I am presently forced to use dial up, so this has got to work, else I cannot update Ubuntu or download software. After trying various suggestions, which my very limited Linux skills fail me, I opted for the suggestion that I download gnome-ppp, install and then use it. Seeing how I cannot download it through Synaptic Package Manager (which I was advised to but can't as it is my Linux computer that I am trying to connect).
I downloaded the zipped file (gnome-ppp_0.3.23_Oubuntu2.tar.gz ) to a USB stick, copied it to the home directory and then extracted it, wherein a new directory was created with many files in it. From here I have been unable to install it through the command line (not sure how), nor have I been able, as was suggested, to install it via the Synaptic Package Manager (can't get it to see the file, not sure how to). I need explicit (Newbie) instructions on how either to connect the modem without gnome-ppp, or instructions on how to get gnome-ppp installed.
