I tried to install F12 on my new IDE-HDD. The installation completed without any errors. But, when rebooting my PC I got a dark screen with error message: reboot and select proper boot device.
No BIOS boot up issue, since booting up using other hard disk running windows has no problem at all. I have set the hardisk jumper to master/primary, tried to re-install F12 a couples of time, but didn't make any difference.
Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I got this error after: Reducing my Windows 7 partition by about 100gb. Creating a new partition (100gb) and copying my Ubuntu partition (10gb) to the new partition. After it was copied, and pasted, the original partition was deleted. I now had two partitions a new 100gb Ubuntu partition and a 600gb (or so) Windows 7 partition.
All of this was done using a bootable USB with Ubuntu 10.10 and GParted partition editor. Now when I boot I get the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key." error.
I've been trying since ever to install the new ubuntu on my FakeRaid controller and I'm really starting to get frustrated. After restarting, i get the message "reboot and select proper device.." So my first tough was that my grub was not installed properly. So i ran the boot_info_script.sh that I found in the forum and here is my output. It says that the boot loader is not installed and my Raid is screwed up. I went look in the BIOS and everything looks fine. Ive put the result.TXT from the script.

I downloaded the full install of Fedora 10. I burned the DVD and it booted okay. Going through the startup stuff, select language, keyboard, ect and then I choose the dvd as the source of the image. Then I get "no driver found" and gives me the option to choose from a list of drivers or to use a driver disk. I saw something in the forums about someone having the same problem but theirs was a video card issue. On the list of drivers it looks like they are network card drivers. I have no idea what to do. I am using a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500 if that helps. I also did not verify the iso, though wouldn't it not boot at all if the iso image was broken?
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some time, I have been trying to install fedora 14 on my pc, as I want a dual boot machine. It has windows xp already installed and running. I used liveusb creator to make a bootable usb. the problem is, when I log in and start the installer, it runs until I get the option "Select storage device". When I select the appropriate option , basic storage device, the installer screen disappears, and nothing more happens. I shall be much obliged if someone can point out the problem. My computer is a Dell optiplex 745 , 2.8 GHz with 512 Mb of RAM.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm installing FC-686 onto a Dell 6300 server with several drives, one 300+gig and about 5 9gig drives. The install disk loads fine but when I select install to HD it tells me that there is no device to install to. Obviously doesn't see the HDs. I have used the internal program to format the HDs, I think I selected RAID 3. I wanted to use all the HD space as my data is not critical requiring RAID 5. Unless someone convinces me otherwise. I did this also because I wanted to maximize disk space. What else to do with 9 gig drives?

I was able to install Fedora 10 from the Live KDE CD, however I can't boot it.
I placed it on /dev/hda4 of an IDE disk, while on /dev/hda1 I have a RedHat 9 Linux, /home is on /dev/hda2 and the swap is on /dev/hda3. I'm not sure if RedHat 9 and Fedora 10 can coexist on the same HD.
There's an option in the Live KDE CD boot install, which allows one to select:

Do you know what to type in in order to direct Fedora to boot from /dev/hda4 (who may be /dev/sda4 as seen by Fedora)?
P.S. For the time being, I want to forget about Grub or LILO and see if I can boot it this way first. I have LILO working, it boots Windows from a separate disk and RedHat 9 from /dev/hda1.

I have two BT USB adapters on my fedora9 (2.6.27.19-78.2.30.fc9.x86_64).How i can tell which of them to bind as /dev/rfcomm0 device.It seems that rfcomm.conf doesn't say me too much about.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm installing Fedora 11 x86_64 from the DVD iso. The SHA256 checksum was fine, and the media checked out fine just prior to install. The F11 install seems to go perfectly and I get all the way through the installation. However, on reboot, I get this message, "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"!!!!I'm installing to an old Intel 975XBX2 motherboard with 4GB of memory, which I have used successfully, flawlessly for every single Fedora install since F6. I've only been using one hard drive with a FAT32 partition, and an NTFS partition for Windows XP, the remainder of the disk is Fedora.I've probably tried this F11 install about 8 or 9 times already with no success; actually, the installation seems to go perfectly, but I just cannot boot the PC. I think there's something wrong with GRUB being written into the MBR of the hard drive, because I cannot boot DOS on that FAT32 partition, I can't boot into the NTFS partition which contains XP, nor can I boot into F11.Anyone else having problems with the boot? I've been a long time Fedora user and was counting on the reliability of F11: Wondering if that Anaconda re-write had anything to do with all of these problems?

I created root, home, swap (8 gb), usr, var all in all about 100 gb (i know its much, but i have enough space :)
After the installation, fedora wanted to restart my laptop, i let it restart and GRUB came up, i chose "fedora 10" pressed enter and the laptop just restarted....did the same thign again, andn ow fedora was about 2 secs in the loading screen and then restarted again....i've chosen windows and the laptop isj ust restarting...i tried windows again and windows is loading ....but i dont get in fedora 10....

Today I installed Fedora (I need it for school), but not everything seems to work fine Before installing Fedora on my Macbook I had a triple booting machine: Mac OSX snow leopard, Windows 7 and Ubuntu. (using rEFIt) All of them where working. Since I installed Fedora on the 4th partition I can only boot Mac OSX. View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently started using Linux Mint (version 10) on a Dell Mini 1012 netbook. I'm using a loop device to mount a file on a NAS but whenever this loop device is mounted and has been accessed, my machine fails to shutdown.
Firstly I mount a share on the NAS using cifs (the NAS is aimed at Windows machines so doesn't support NFS). I have a sparse file on the share (which I created using Cygwin in Windows, using the dd command).
I used losetup to create a loop device and formatted it as reiserfs.This works and I can successfully use the mount point. I'm using it with Backintime.If I try to shutdown my machine without unmounting the loop device, shutdown hangs.
These messages just keep repeating and the system never shuts down.So I assume the problem is something to do with unmounting the CIFS/loop device.If I unmount the loop device all is fine. I don't need to unmount the cifs share.Any ideas on how to resolve? Should I add a script to run during shutdown (i.e linked from /etc/rc0.d and /etc/rc6.d) to sync and unmount the loop device? Or is there a better solution?
I've been using Ubuntu on all my computers, but for a school project I need to get back to Windows VISTA.Running 10.10 on my netbook, using the desktop edition though.I got a Bootable Vista USB sorted, but I'm having a problem installing from it.I press F2 to enter the boot options and I only have 6 options - 4 Ubuntu options and 2 memory tests.How do I manage to select to boot from the USB?

I tried restarting libvirtd after with no love so I rebooted and cgroup was gone this was a clean install of F14, after this started I brought the system current, I can provide the packages installed but they errors didnt change
I'm a long time Linux user. Finally got around to upgrading my Fedora 11 system to Fedora 12 by using the 'preupgrade' tool. The upgrade appeared to go well (downloaded packages, rebooted into installer, etc). However, now that the upgrade is complete, I'm unable to boot my system.
Here's my configuration:
/dev/sda (80Gb)
200Mb /boot partition (ext3)
52Gb / partition (ext4 - managed as logical volume)
2Gb swap partition (managed as logical volume)
20Gb /spare partition (ext3 - managed as logical volume) .....
All worked fine under Fedora 11 for the last few months. Grub now presents me with 'Fedora' and 'Windows XP' boot options. The /boot/grub/menu.lst file is essentially the same as it was for Fedora 11, except for the different kernel versions, etc. The boot sequence shows the Fedora bubble (??) and gets about 80% full when the screen goes black and the message displayed is:
No root device found
Boot has failed, sleeping forever
If I boot Windows, all works fine.
Am able to boot using a SystemRescueCD disk. The disks all look okay and I can mount/modify all partitions, etc. The grub menu.lst file read as follows (sorry, typed in, not copied):

I have 2 Debian OS's and wanted to put Fedora next to it.
Install went ok, but after rebooting it says: "No root device found. Boot has failed, sleeping forever."
During install from the live CD I didn't "v" the boot (efi or something?) because I thought Grub would take care of everything.
Should I just reinstall again and choose the Fedora bootloader? Won't it mess up Grub?
I am using a dual boot with windows vista, I would rather use ubuntu but my wife wants windows. How do I change my boot order to boot into windows instead of ubuntu? My ubuntu is an upgraded version from 8.? then 9.04 then 9.10
View 7 Replies View Relatedbeen trying to get linux installed on a troublesome laptop for 48 hours now without any luck so thought I'd post here as my last option.
I've tried installing 10.10 desktop, 9.04 netbook remix and just this minute 10.04 netbook versions of ubuntu, as well as other versions of various linux distros.
I woke up this morning and burnt 10.04 netbook to CD (not usb) as I wanted to put it on an old laptop with max resolution of 1024x768. I put it in an external CD drive and it boots up to the options screen on the Live CD, where you can choose to 'try Ubuntu netbook without installing' or 'install ubuntu netbook' etc.
The problem is, I can't click (press enter) on any of the options. The same problem arose with earlier versions, i.e 9.04 netbook remix Ubuntu.
Laptop model: Compaq Presario R3000.
I downloaded fedora 14 64 image then created a bootable flash drive and put the image on the flash drive. I rebooted and tried booting from the flash drive and that's the message I received. What do I do?
