Fedora Networking :: Bind-utils Host Timed Out On Select Website?

Mar 24, 2010

Issue with the 'host' command that comes with bind-utils package. We don't have any browsing/name resolution issues except to the following two sites:

[code]....

command [URL] returned:

www.aeroplan.com is an alias for www.halb.aeroplan.com.
www.halb.aeroplan.com has address 207.34.195.17
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

[code].....

I have tried to run the "host" command against different DNS caching servers I have access to all produced the same timed out error. I called Aeroplan technical support to report the issue to them and from their perspective, they have no problem accessing the website. And we don't have any problem accessing any websites ourselves if "host" return A record lookup without the timed out error.

1. It's not our firewall filtering out packet. I tried it on external facing server without firewall and got the same result.

2. It's not our DNS caching server cause same errors are observed on our ISP caching server.

3. It works on an altogether network, from a Windows Vista desktop, through IE 8.

Ubuntu Networking :: Bluetooth Adapter Not Present / Get That?

Dec 22, 2010

I have been using ubuntu for a few years now but am a noob when comes to the technical side of things, so apologies for my lack of knowledge.

I am using ubuntu 10.10 on a ZOTAC IONITX-A-U Atom N330 1.6GHz Dual-Core Mini ITX Intel Motherboard and since I have upgraded from 10.04 I no longer have blue tooth capabilities. I have a logitech mx 5500 wireless keyboard and mouse, which uses a bluetooth dongle. This is the strange part as they have both been working until recently.

They both lost their charge and after replacing the batteries in my keyboard it no longer is able to connect. The mouse however works fine, until I dropped it So I bought a microsoft explorer mouse which came with its own bluetooth dongle. Which I plugged in and the mouse works fine.

But when I go to System> Preferences> Bluetooth

I get Bluetooth adapter not present and Your computer does not have any Bluetooth adapters plugged in.

I have spent the last week googling this and can't seem to find any relevant info.

I ran this in terminal code...

Am I wrong in assuming that the logitech and microsoft dongles are being seen?

I have also removed and reinstalled bluetooth and bluetooth manager in the software centre, and the same with synaptic package manager, to no avail.

With both dongles plugged in could this also cause a problem?

Is there another way of starting the bluetooth?

Fedora Hardware :: Fedora 14 Not Detecting Bluetooth Adapter

Mar 8, 2011

I have a Toshiba Tecra M5 that I dearly love; its operating system is Fedora 14 which I ALSO dearly love.I have been running Fedora on this Laptop since Fedora 10. And know it has Bluetooth; in fact, I know I've transfferred files from my laptop to my phone (and vice versa) before. However. It does not seem to work right now. When I go into the gnome-Bluetooth app, it just sits there ominously saying "No Bluetooth Adapters Present" I'd very much like to get bluetooth up and running, but I'm not sure what's wrong.

Fedora Installation :: Select Device Driver To Load ?

Apr 10, 2009

I downloaded the full install of Fedora 10. I burned the DVD and it booted okay. Going through the startup stuff, select language, keyboard, ect and then I choose the dvd as the source of the image. Then I get "no driver found" and gives me the option to choose from a list of drivers or to use a driver disk. I saw something in the forums about someone having the same problem but theirs was a video card issue. On the list of drivers it looks like they are network card drivers. I have no idea what to do. I am using a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500 if that helps. I also did not verify the iso, though wouldn't it not boot at all if the iso image was broken?

Ubuntu Networking :: Karmic: Make A Bluetooth Device *not* Auto-connect?

Mar 5, 2010

I have a nifty new headset (a JawBone iconthe noise cancellation is incredible) and I've successfully connected it to my Karmic laptop (64 bit, for the off chance it makes a difference). The trouble is, I only occasionally want to connect it to my laptop; I mostly use it with my mobile 'phone.

The two devices fight over my new toy a lot, and invariably the laptop wins, contrary to what I want. It seems a pain to have to rediscover the headset every time I want to use VIOP or whatever, so is there a way to add a device to Karmic's Bluetooth list, but not have it connect whenever it sees it?

Fedora :: Connect A Bluetooth Device With The Command Rfcomm?

Mar 11, 2010

First, excuse me for my bad english I want to connect a bluetooth device with the command rfcomm. In a terminal, I put the command :

Code:
rfcomm connect 0 00:80:98:E4:07:53
And the system answers :
Code:
Connected /dev/rfcomm0 to 00:80:98:E4:07:53 on channel 1
Press CTRL-C for hangup

On fedora 10, or 11, I can use this command with all users. On fedora 12, only the root user can connect and use this device. Other users have the message :

Code:
Can't open RFCOMM device: Permission denied What can I do to resolve this problem?

Fedora :: Launch Script When Bluetooth Device Connects?

When a bluetooth controller I have connects I'd like a program launched (qjoypad) so that I can use it has a mouse. The controller has to be on before launching qjoypad otherwise qjoypad will not work.

So I was wondering if there is a way to launch a script when my controller connects, and then possibly when it disconnects to launch another script killing the qjoypad process.

EDIT: I created a script that checks if /dev/input/js0 exists, if it does then qjoypad is created

Code:
#!/bin/bash
while true; do
if [ -c "/dev/input/js0" ]; then
qjoypad

Ubuntu :: How To Select Bluetooth Keyboard

Nov 13, 2010

I am trying to use an Apple BT keyboard with a new installation of 10.04.Using Bluetooth Preferences, I discovered the keyboard, and paired with it. No problem with pairing. If I click on the BT icon in the top panel, it indicates that the keyboard is connected. But any text typed on on keyboard does not appear on screen. I opened Keyboard Settings, thinking that I might have to select the connected BT keyboard as the input device. Nothing there. Is there another preference somewhere that has to be set for the BT keyboard to actually work as an input device (as opposed to simply being paired)? My USB keyboard is still connected (and is working). Perhap Ubuntu only tolerates one keyboard device at a time?

Red Hat :: Bluetooth Adapter Not Working

Apr 19, 2011

I am trying to get my bluetooth adapter to work in RHEL. The adapter is a Kensington Micro (K33902US). The system detects the device, but it fails to find any networks when I do a scan using hcitool. Also, I wrote a small C program to do the same, with the same results (no network found). The bluetooth manager appears in the panel, but when I right-click, the only option I have is to check/uncheck "Discoverable". I have tried restarting bluetooth using "service bluetooth restart" to no avail.I tried borrowing an adapter from a friend (some DLINK) that seemed to work fine for both hcitool and my program. The problem just seems to be in Red Hat's ability to use this particular device.
