i dosent get the wired network in my HP mini 2140 to work. It had worked before but today it stoped. I think it's the network card that is the problem. im running fedora 15.

I've got a new HP Compaq Mini 110c-1110SD.
I've booted Ubuntu UNR 10.04 Beta2 from a USB stick and at first it seemed like everything worked so I installed it (dual boot with the installed Win XP which works fine, no network problems)
But .. I forgot to check if internet worked. Since I don't have a wireless, I plugged in a cable and the Auto eth0 showed up as connected.
Looks good, but I can't get internet to work. Local browsing on my LAN works ok, but getting on the internet doesn't work neither does apt-get so updating is a problem too.
Strangely enough, ping does work ...
I thought it had to do with UNR being a beta, so I've booted from a live UNR 9.10 usb stick, but same problem, no wired internet.
I'm totally stumped. I've been running Ubuntu since 2007 on several PC's and never had any problems with networking.
So, how do I fix this ?
I installed Ubuntu10.04, It cannot driver Wired network and wireless. Later I installed linuxMint9, wireless is ok, but wired network doesn't work. I am sure the lan cable is ok. It works in Windows.
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhat is the command to restart the network services? ive forgotten i think it uses -hup switch though. about 1 in 20 boots on my desktop ubuntu system results in the system insisting its no longer on a network yet has a fully functioning network card. a reboot always fixes the issue but that doesnt seem like a long term solution to me. If I ping a neighbouring system I get nothing. (sent packet count increases in ifconfig) If I ping from a neighbouring system back to my desktop I get nothing (no change in packet count) I can bring down and back up the network interface with no results. A sniffer shows the system definitely isnt sending anything out Everything worked previous boot and will work again after a reboot.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy desktop PC has 2 NICs. I have Ubuntu on it since several years, and I remember that both eth0 and eth1 used to work. However, I discovered recently that currently only eth0 works, and eth1 is dead, but I don't know why. It's been a while since I've tried eth1, so I have no idea when exactly it broke. I suspect the problem may be related to the fact that the MAC address is incorrect: it is set to 00:00:00:00:00:00, which seems wrong. But I have no idea how this happened...Any idea what might be wrong and how I can fix it? Here is some output which I think is useful:

My friend has 2 pcs, one connected to the internet and the other one used to connect (when he had windows installed) to the internet through the first one using internet sharing, now i installed ubuntu on both and the network between them has been created but it wont connect, the internet icons just animates for like a minute then says "wired internet disconnected" in other words it failed to connect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having mysterious wired network problem with my Karmic/9.10 machine. It hasn't been in network a while, but now I finally got the cabling done. I can't get the IP from dhcp server (TW-EA510), and static settings doesn't work either. Fresh cabling showed OK 1Gb connection on tester, and win7 laptop works fine. I even tried with long cable though the rooms, but it doesn't help, so it definately isn't the new cabling.

Motherboard is some old Lanparty with two ethernet ports, NVidia CK804 and Marvell 88E800 rev 13 Gigabit netwok adapters, neither of them works. At least another of them has been worked earlier when I last got it wired. It's been a while, so I'm not sure which one of them and with different router if that matters.
Issue: Using Fedora-14-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso, I created a live usb and tried it on Dell M6400. I can boot into F14, see the internal hard-drive and other usb drives -- but F14 will not go on the network -- neither wired or wl networks.
I am not sure what additional information I need to provide to help resolve this issue. Perhaps some background info would help?: I am trying to move from XP to linux on the M6400. The latest Ubuntu live CD would not boot, the latest CentOS live CD could not find the internal drive; I got best results with the latest Fedora (and I am more comfortable with the F14 gnome interface than the F14 KDE, the Ubuntu, and the CentOS interfaces). I do not know how to investigate the inability of F14 to detect the ethernet cabled network. I was unsuccessful in my attempts to get the wireless to work: "lspci -nn" shows BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n 14e4:4326 (rev01). I read [URL]../docs/linux_sta/README.txt and used what I learned in my attempts. Installing broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1.fc13.noarch.rpm, kmod-wl-2.6.35.6-48.fc14.x86_64-5.60.48.36-2.fc14.2.x86_64.rpm, and kmod-wl-5.60.48.36-2.fc14.2.x86_64.rpm (found at rpmfusion) did not help. I tried to build and install the sources from http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php; the machines I had for building were 2.6.28-18-generic Ubuntu, fc5, and rhel5 -- attempts with these builds failed too.
I have installed Linux for the first time on an old Gateway purchased from work. The system seems up and running, but I can't get connected to my wireless or the wired network. F14 did not recognize my wired or wireless NIC upon installation. I have enabled network manager, what should I do from here? Here is my hardware specifications:

I'm having issues with my wired network. After about 5-10 minutes of turning on my machine, the network will drop out. Sometimes rebooting my pc or router will fix the connection, other times it will have no effect. Also, sometimes the connection will completely disconnect, other times it will appear to be connected (i.e. the network icon will indicate that there is a connection), but trying to ping a remote server or the router will fail.
This problem first showed up on Fedora 11 64, however I've just installed Fedora 13 64 and that hasn't helped. I'm using a brand new NIC (I've tried using the onboard NICs). The machine also has Windows 7 installed, which is able to connect just fine. Apart from changing NICs, the only other thing I've tried is switching from dhcp to a static IP address.
I've installed F10 on my laptop since few days and I'm facing an annoying networking issue: the network connection seems to work well when, suddently, it goes down for a while, and then come back.This happens with both wired and wireless (Intel PRO/ Wireless 3945ABG) connection.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Fedora 13 (from 10, using preupgrade), and I've gotten most things working again, but I'm still having trouble with the network.My wired connection (eth0) doesn't connect on boot (even though ONBOOT=yes in /usr/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0).Because of that, I figured I'd just leave eth0 connected manually (with ifup eth0). However, I then found that if I try to connect to a VPN like this, the system reverts to the "stalling every time I try to connect to the internet" problem that I had earlier.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.
It was working just fine, until the other day I yanked it out. The wireless works just fine on the same router. If I login to a windows 7 instance on this dual boot laptop then the ehternet works just fine. So it's not a hardware, cable or router issue. The card even gets an ip, but I can't connect to the internet.

I installed the netbook version of ubuntu 10. Problem is no wireless networks show up. So I have an eternet connecting. Only problem is when I plug that in, still no internet. I need to download drivers to make the wireless work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installer Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on my Compaq Mini 700EL, the ubuntu website says that everything works very well including the wireless. But for some reason the list of connection doesn't appear at all. It just says "device not ready" This is driving me a little nuts. It appears that the Broadcom drivers are installed. I typed lspci on the terminal and it says that the computer loads a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
I also downloaded the drivers even though they should be already in it. But I'm not sure.
Currently my office use a Cisco Firewall which will only allow the ANYCONNECT utility to do the vpn connection. I found a Linux utility (OpenConnect) which will do the same thing, but allow me more flexibility with my networking needs.What I ultimately would like to have is to have a switch that I can connect any network device into it and be connected to the office. IE (my IP Work Phone and Computer) Currently I have is a computer with fedora 13 and two network cards eth0 (home network - connected to a router) and eth1 which I would like to connect a switch to. OpenConnect communicates fine and I can see the work network from the Fedora machine. It creates a vpn0 tun/tap device and I don't know how to pass communication to/from the eth1 device.
Do I try to iptables the ports for the phone and services I need on the computer? Or do I build bridge; and If I do what am I bridging. I have tried making a bridge from eth1 to vpn0 which reply's with unsupported device or something like that.Unfortunately my network skills are bit limited and my office says "it can't be done". Their solution is for me to buy a ASA5505 (or something device) and have a static IP. I would have to make it work as my router and even then it will only DHCP 10 ip addresses; which will cause a shortage of IP addresses in the house.
I decided to try ubuntu on my netbook and it seems to have set up well other than I cannot see any wireless connections. I can't click on connection information. The blue light is on, indicating that my netbook's network card is on.

I just started having a problem with my 10.04 laptop a few days ago, maybe Thursday, last week. When the computer is plugged into my home network (standard 192.168.1.1 sort of IPs) it works fine, but when I try to connect to my work network (130.15.90.XX) I am unable to pick up an IP. The router in my office is working fine, all the windows boxes can connect.
I've also noticed that when the computer is plugged in at work the notification icon for the networking indicates it is looking for a wireless connection (rather than the normal up/down arrows), even if wireless is deactivated
I can set a static IP in /etc/network/interfaces and everything works, so it seems to be a DHCP problem?
