I have tried to install Fedora, it loads but stops at select language. I tried other Distros and basically the same thing happens, my keyboard and mouse won't work. I'm trying to dual boot with Vista, didn't have this problem while dual booting with Windows 7. My computer is an Acer Aspire M5640, Core 2 Duo E7200, ATI 3450 video card.

User B needs to use Chinese and would like the full system in Chinese. User C needs to use Thai and Chinese. They would prefer their menus to be in Thai and can use iBus for Chinese entry. How do you set up the system so that each user can select their system language when they login?
View 4 Replies View Relatedfor an orphanage in Mongolia I am trying to install Edubuntu, the 10.10 Maverick version. This was succesful, but during installation I could not select Mongolian as the language. The computers at the orphanage do not have internet access.
I could use any tips on how to get Mongolian language installed:
1) on a PC that already has Edubuntu in English installed
2) during a new installation
Everything was fine last night, but this morning I signed into my Squeeze box and found that website play audio fine, Hulu Desktop works, some games work, etc. but Rhythmbox, VLC, Totem, and others don't . It all started with an attempt to diagnose a lack of sound in TVtime.

What is the recommended place in Fedora to set this? /etc/profile or are there any Fedora specific configuration files for this purpose?Btw, the GDM login screen doesn't provide the German language as a choice. Do I miss a package? I already browsed the DE packages for localization packages I did not install but it seems there is no one missing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the full install of Fedora 10. I burned the DVD and it booted okay. Going through the startup stuff, select language, keyboard, ect and then I choose the dvd as the source of the image. Then I get "no driver found" and gives me the option to choose from a list of drivers or to use a driver disk. I saw something in the forums about someone having the same problem but theirs was a video card issue. On the list of drivers it looks like they are network card drivers. I have no idea what to do. I am using a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5500 if that helps. I also did not verify the iso, though wouldn't it not boot at all if the iso image was broken?

I was able to install Fedora 10 from the Live KDE CD, however I can't boot it.
I placed it on /dev/hda4 of an IDE disk, while on /dev/hda1 I have a RedHat 9 Linux, /home is on /dev/hda2 and the swap is on /dev/hda3. I'm not sure if RedHat 9 and Fedora 10 can coexist on the same HD.
There's an option in the Live KDE CD boot install, which allows one to select:

Do you know what to type in in order to direct Fedora to boot from /dev/hda4 (who may be /dev/sda4 as seen by Fedora)?
P.S. For the time being, I want to forget about Grub or LILO and see if I can boot it this way first. I have LILO working, it boots Windows from a separate disk and RedHat 9 from /dev/hda1.
I tried to install F12 on my new IDE-HDD. The installation completed without any errors. But, when rebooting my PC I got a dark screen with error message: reboot and select proper boot device.
No BIOS boot up issue, since booting up using other hard disk running windows has no problem at all. I have set the hardisk jumper to master/primary, tried to re-install F12 a couples of time, but didn't make any difference.
I'm trying out Fedora 14 on an Asus EeePC 1000 netbook.I'd like to install just the basic Gnome interface, its helper applications and Gedit &cI don't want openoffice or evolution &c on this small net book.How would I go about choosing the appropriate packages at install time?If this is documented anywhere, just point me at the page!
View 2 Replies View RelatedInstalling new Intel server S5000VSA (Sapello) motherboard with RAID 1. Downloaded F10 32 bit DVD and run install. Everything works fine and select Samba and all that. Install completes but on reboot get a blank screen.
I know with Windows one has to load the RAID driver off the Intel driver CD, so guess that is the problem. But how do I do this in Fedora? Question: How do I get to select the Intel RAID driver in the install process? There does not seem to be any place to stop and make this selection. I tried selecting the Red Hat and Suze installs on the Intel configuration assistant but it then reboots and that is it. In Windows it would ask to insert the Intel driver CD but that does not happen. So I am stuck. I loaded Fedora some 3 year ago and like it but then it was not on a RAID setup. I created a VMWare install on my desktop and did the same install options and it works. So the DVD seems fine.
I quit using Fedora when FC4 came out, but I decided to switch back now that F11 has come out. I'm liking everything so far, though it is different from what I became used to (Ubuntu). My main question so far has to do with language support, and I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere for this. I need to have language support for several languages (including support to enter complex characters) for all applications for which it they are available. How do I install all the language files at once for, say, Korean, rather than installing each library one by one?

I'm copying the entire error report below. My system is configured as follows: Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard with 4G RAM. (FYI, I'm using the 32-bit LiveCD just because I may need a 32-bit OS for some purposes. I know this means I may not be able to use all of my RAM.) There are 3 500G hard drives connected to the computer. /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are RAID-1 mirrors via the on-motherboard ICH9R RAID chip. The logical partitions show up as /dev/dm-1, /dev/dm-2, /dev/dm-3, /dev/dm-4, and /dev/dm-5. When I type `fdisk -l`, I can see sda, sdb, and dm-* all separately. (I can provide the full output of `fdisk` if anybody wants to see it.)
/dev/sdc is a standalone drive without RAID.
I want to install Fedora on /dev/dm-2 with swap on /dev/dm-5. Currently, /dev/dm-1 and /dev/sdc2 each contain a separate installation of WinXP. I suspect the problem is with detecting RAID, thus I have deleted most of the error report that doesn't seem to concern storage detection.

I installing Fedora 12. I did ALL the same as in the installation guide, GRUB installed into MBR. And after installation and rebooting - nothing happens, after BIOS messages there is nothing - computer hangs. GRUB seems to be not installedI have 2 hard disks. At first I tried to install on the 2-nd drive(it is slave). Afterward I detach one disk and try with only one hard disk(it is master). Nothing changes - computer hangs.

Next step was kmod for nvidia but when i rebooted i couldn't use fedora anymore cause loading freezes at some point. same thing happens to my desktop pc, where i solved the problem booting with an older kernel (this time i have an error saying "eth0 link not ready" or something like that). Everytime i try to boot with a more recent kernel loading freezes. The point is...i can go through with my desktop pc by choosing another kernel, but i can't even boot with my laptop.
I am trying to install fedora on my semi aging PC. It installed fine and prompted me to reboot. So I did, but then as soon as it tries to load the grub menu, it gives me the following error: no such device: 2cb414b7-7620-48a9-93af-f03aec3495e4How do I restore grub and make it work? Right now I am using the livecd to type this. I do not really need the grub loader since I am only running one OS, which is currently fedora. I recently had Ubuntu 10.04 which did not have grub (at least it is not shown during the boot) and suited me more than fine.

(But in Nautilus, their proper names show).
I know the solution is to change my whole system language to that language, but I don't want to do that, as I am not very fluent in it. Is there any way to enable support for that language while keeping English as the language used to display my desktop?
I just installed Fedora 11 KDE. Everything went pretty good. But...my printer HP OfficeJet 5780 does not print. According to the applet says its stopped. After some tinkering it says something as: "Not having permission".

From one of the prevous threads, one of the members said that i had to have 2 partitions on my HD. Currently, i already have 2 partitions. Can someone give me advice on what to do??
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from F11 to F12 and everything seemed to be working until I went into my Eclipse IDE. Several things stopped working, icons in the "New" sub-menu items disappeared and when I activated wizards and added items like a new text file, I was unable to complete the creation of the file. If I try to "Save-as" the file to a file named create_products.sql pressing the "OK" button does nothing. This seems to be true of all of the wizards when you try to write out the changes, nothing happens. All these wizards worked correctly under F11. The Eclipse IDE is installed in my /home/user/Application/eclipse directory and was left in tac after the upgrade. Does this mean I need to do a full install and if so will restoring my home directory just result in the same problems? [URL]. Seems that there is a problem with eclipse 3.5.1 and F12 regarding mouse click capture.
